Why are they so superior to the British? They are in a different league. They should switch Cheltenham races to Punchestown or some other Irish track and save the Irish horses and connections the trouble of travelling over to UK to win.

And another for Ireland.

1.45 Cheltenham Yesterday - 5 runners and 4 from Ireland. Never ever seen that before.

Today, 4 races run and all won by horses from Ireland.

Tom Scudamore's big contribution to ITV this morning was to say that Bottler'secret was a certainty. Well done for that.

British raiders to Ireland in the last 4 years have a 11.85% Strike rate.
Irish raiders to the mainland have a 13.06% Strike rate.

Hardly a massive difference is there?

Excuses, excuses. Twenty of the 28 horses that finished in the first four in each race were British trained. Stop being so gloomy folks, be happy.

Ireland is the 4th richest country in the continent of Europe going by Gross Domestic Product per capita.
Only long standing tax havens like Luxembourg and the Swiss are ahead of them.
This is skewed by the fact that many multi-national businesses have made their headquarters there, so much of this new wealth has gone into the hands of a few very wealthy individuals.
Such people, historically, have enjoyed owning racehorses.
Years gone by the best Irish-bred National Hunt animals would end up being sold to the UK. Now they go to Willie, Gordon, Henry and the like.
I can't imagine this dominance will end any time soon.

thelatarps sums it up better than i can

Ireland, a country with a rich horse culture, had to sell their best horses abroad in the past due to the economy. this is no longer necessary any more what since the Celtic Tiger and they can keep the best at home. I recall the years when any Irish winner at Cheltenham was celebrated like there was no tomorrow. Where there used to be an 'Irish Banker', now there's too many for it to be a thing any more. The Irish grassroots and pointing scene are light years ahead of ours in the UK. I recall the controversy of John Upson calling Ireland 'a backward country' back in 1993. While I could understand the hurt it caused, there was an element of truth in the statement. But those days are long gone. I'm slightly biased being descended from Mayo folk, but good luck to Irish.

I agree with Cardinal Scott, too. Would be nice to see more French raiders (or indeed any) but I don't suppose the prize money over here makes it worth coming over any more.

The Morning show had a graphic on screen showing Willie Mullins currenly 113th in the NH title race over 'ere yet he was just:

7/4 second fav behind Doughboy who was around 6/4.

Tantamount to loading Mullins into a catapult and firing him over the castle walls next Spring to finish off the auld enemy.

Willie Mullins is something like 113th in the UK Champion trainer's title race at the moment yet he is just:

7/4 to win itLaugh

It will be a case of loading him into a catapult and firing him over the castle wall.

Gross Domestic Product

Is that still coming courtesy of the Blue chip companies that brought prosperity to Ireland?

As a percentage of population yer average Irish fella dreams of a daycint horse hence syndicates etc,a lot more interest in horse racing than the UK as a whole, most would have a bet if the word got around locally.
My opinion the Irish trainers are very very professional and have to be, a bullsheeter won't last, not to say it isn't the same in the UK but you are judged on results whether you can get a race out of a horse,a touch, whatever,it isn't bottomless pockets anymore.

Leif, the economy is 'okay', the 'blue chips' aren't dopey either, maybe 'use' each other but in the case of Apple a huge boost. As a personal preference i would prefer if it didn't have to be so but invest where the markets are? Your GDP comment and debt ratio so who is right?

Irish gov,subsides,greyhound,horse industry,has its a net exporter.

Given England has more fields, same climate,it’s strange how they can sell the world all their 2nd rate horses that they don’t want and keep the best ones.

Dubai,Qatar,Bahrain,Saudi, plus a few more, spend most of their countries wealth, oil sales on horses.yet Micky tabs,an ex bookie can out smart them.

I always laugh when I see a Mac Donald’s advert, stating all our burgers are pure Irish beef.
Weird how Britain can’t supply Mac Donald’s with their beef.

Why.

Cos Ireland actually farm their land, and Britains land is basically big gardens for those wealthy enough to buy pretend farms.

And these aren’t the ones, buying, supplying bloodstock, they leave that to the Arabs.

Why do British millionaires, want to own 200/300 acres of land, just to look out of their back window.but don’t actually want to do anything with it.

It should be taxed if not used, like an empty property.

But given the guys owning this land, support the mp s covering this land,I don’t think it will change anytime soon.

So the Irish and the Arabs will build their breeding operations, and the British will enjoy their lovely views from their back gardens, and tell everyone that billy their prize piglet is such a joy.
