you are wrong Mr.Hunt... RJ11 to RJ11 goes to your hub/router... RJ45 to RJ11 goes to your landline. when people refer to 'the RJ11 cable' they refer to the one that goes to the hub/router... apart from you of course. |

so to update...
i was using a 10m RJ11 to RJ11 cable (when i was getting loads of pausing)... i switched to a 1m one yesterday and the pausing almost vanished (just the odd very small pause on RTV where the audio goes a bit wonky for a split second)... i will keep the 1m one in today to see how it plays... so if anyone has any advice on the length of RJ11 to RJ11 cable you should be using i'd be pleased to hear it. |

The RJ45 ports are Ethernet. There is no way a standard landline telephone will work connecting to an Ethernet port.
the cable from white wall box to phone is a 431A > RJ11 plug. |

cant personally see how a shorter RJ11 would affect anything as the copper cable from open reach cabinets to house can be hundreds of meters long anyways..as long as its a stable connection.

RJ11 are what connects from BT street cabinets to houses and can be hundreds of meters long.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- well you say you are right Mr.HUnt... you were partially right... coz RJ11 also connects from the wee whit box to the router/hub (which is what i was originally asking about). my mistake was thinking the funny shaped 'phone' connector was an RJ45... which i admit i was wrong about. |

i agree with you Mr.Hunt...
which is why i had the 10m cable in the first place... it is possible that that specific cable is dodgy and has nowt to do with it's length tbh... but it does seem strange that since i changed the RJ11 to RJ11 cable it has been pretty fine. |

RJ11 is just tradition small core copper cable..similar to what runs from BT cabinets to houses..
as long as connection is stable wont affect..if you run a 3 core flex from your house to london for light bulb it will still turn on instantly. |

plenty complain re sky....even though its supplied from same place/equipment (open reach) obv the hubs are better with other companys..cant fault BT infinity if its available.

well i couldn't tell you the last time i had an issue with SKY internet tbh Mr.Hunt...
very reliable here tbh... when i got the new hub it was fine... thinking back it was only when i changed over the RJ11 to RJ11 cable RTV LV has started pausing... i got an RJ11 to RJ11 supplied with the hub/router and that is what i'm using now and yesterday RTV LV was fine... so i will monitor the situation... could easily be a rogue RJ11 to RJ11 cable and the length of it is not the issue tbh. |

yes...
by anywhere between 0.5 and 1 sec Mr.Hunt... long story Mr.HUnt... i had the original hub/router... i called SKY to ask about FTTP... they said still not available... i aked if they had a more recent hub/router... they said yes... i said i'll take it then as it was supposedly good for wifi connections... so when the new hub arrived i connected it all up and it was fine... the RJ11 to RJ11 cable i was using (5m length) had a broken clip on one of the connectors so i decided to buy a new one of 10m length as i wasn't sure where i wanted to position the ew hub/router... i thought it was all ok after using the new RJ11 to RJ11 (10m) but i started noticing a few pauses on RTV LV... and a few became more than a few and for a few races it was really awful... Friday was shocking so that was the final straw... i went back to the old hub/router with the RJ11 to RJ11 cable i got with the new hub/router and it worked well... the odd very slight distortion in audio on RTV tracks... so last night i went back to the new hub/router and it was still fine... which is where i am now and i will see how it goes today... so the only change i have made is the position of the hub/router and the RJ11 to RJ11 cable length... the original position of the router seemed fine to me and it was the same position i had the old hub/router in and it was fine for ages there too... but as i have shortened the RJ11 to RJ11 cable it won't reach that far now... so i have narrowed it down to either the position of the new hub/router or the RJ11 to RJ11 cable length... that assumes all goes well from now on of course... if it goes t1ts up today i'm stuffed i think. |

they've got Virgin (i presume full fibre)... ping 19ms... download 274 mb/s... upload 26mbps... got pausing at Curragh and Newmarket so far...  only thing left to try is changing PC... will try it tomorrow. |

total mistery to me Hayden tbh...
if i'm the only person in the world getting 'pausing'on RTV LV (it doesn't lose time but the audio goes wonky and the picture stutters a bit) then the only thing it can be now as far as i'm concerned is something on my PC... i've got 3 old ones in the loft so will see if any of them are better.. cheers Hayden. |
