Some people might like being whipped - you'd have to ask the horse if it enjoys it - the one in the video looked like it wasn't too keen

as oneten said, if you thrash a horse for long enough eventually it will become your friend.

Oh dear swiftynifty, that is possibly the most stupid comment I have ever read in my entire life.

Re your comment "It's incredible you know what pain animals do or don't feel when I assume you aren't one."

Well YES, actually I am an animal as are all humans.

What are you ?  Are you not an animal ?

As you sounded unknowledgeable about horses I just tried to give you some insight which you might have found interesting.
No worries if you didn't,  I was only trying to be helpful.

oneten, you knew what I meant.

I was interested in what you wrote.
But there is a big difference in pain felt at rest than when an animal(including humans, boxers for example) will feel when adrenalin-filled like at the end of a race.

What Dujardin did is no doubt common place but hitting legs is never acceptable in my book.

Swiftynifty, Im not going to try to have a discussion with someone who doesn't know that humans are animals as I'm obviously wasting my time here.

But, just to correct you again, if you are going to quote me, please try to get it correct and don't misquote me.

I never said "if you thrash a horse for long enough eventually it will become your friend".  Far from it in fact.

If you thrash a horse it will never be your friend. A horse will become your friend through kindness and trust.

Like I said , you come across as very unknowledgeable about animals.

Sorry, but I wont be continuing this discussion with you as you weren't able to quote me accurately and you didn't know that humans are animals, so I feel discussing this any further with you is a waste of my time.

Night all.

There was a horse jumper some years back who put spikes on the top pole of a fence so the horses would pick their legs up higher if I recall correctly.
I suppose any sort of training or encouragement anywhere is a carrot or stick exercise. ( yes , bad choice of words but it is an old saying not necessarily literal)  . I did not think she was “ Thrashing “, the horse but in these days many will see it as unacceptable just as many do with the racing whip. I can see a day when all whips are banned and all races are hands and heels.
All sports get changed as time goes on. Boxing used to be bare knuckles and 40 rounds, football had no concussion rules and cricketers , ice hockey  players and goalies ( ! ) had no helmets !!

Every horse competing for cash / medals / cups and prestige for the posh mob are commodities….

Especially horse racing flat & jumps….no hiding place.
