I just got back and checked the video chavman. He didn't look like he had a cut on his nose in the last furlong. In fact he even very kindly turns his head to the camera 1/2 furlong out to show you his nice clean white nose. I wouldn't want to bet him for the Derby even if he was in it.

If he's going G1 next and avoiding Epsom, i'd rather go Eclipse than SJP, since Sandown's long straight would suit much better. as opposed to Ascot where short straight would mean needs time to get back upto speed, particularly over 1 mile. Also the additional 2 or 3 weeks may be preferential for his physique.

Obviously would mean taking on the older more experienced horses, but even if you go G1 against just 3 year olds, you're still very much right in at the deep end.

He’s a massive chunk of a horse and totally understand why Haggas removed him from the Derby.
The Eclipse, Juddmonte then Arc or Champion Stakes is the correct route for him imo.

whats the difference in distance between ascot and sandown straights ? been punting 50 yrs and never thought of SANDOWN AS BEEN A PARTICULASR LONG STRAIGHT or ASCOT AS A PARTICULAR SHORT STRAIGHT

The bleeding I understood was caused by an injury in the stalls.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, ECONOMICS, had bled from the nose. The Stewards reviewed footage of the horse in the stalls with the representative of William Haggas, and noted that ECONOMICS’ head had made contact with the front of the starting stalls, when the colt lunged forward having briefly become upset after AL MUSMAK (IRE), was fractious in an adjoining stall during the loading process.

Well Sparrow he bled from the nose after the race and not during (at least from what I can see on the replay). I think anyone believing that was from a bang in the stalls is taking a bit of a leap of faith.

It wasn't the stewards version sparrow. They said it bled from the nose. The explanation from the trainer and jockey was that it was a result of a bang in the stalls. How on earth could they say that after the race without an examination? Its laughable tbh.

No, the vet said it bled from the nose. The vet did not give an explanation why. The vet did not report any damage, bruising etc on the colts head. It was connections that said it was from a bang in the stalls. If you believe them that's fine but be clear the vet said it bled from the nose.

The report posted said "Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, ECONOMICS, had bled from the nose" I merely posted the report and nothing else.

From around 7.10 in, here's the barstewards version of events, who I think were there, and according to Jonjo (respected poster on here back in the day), they needed half a roll of kleenex to stop the bleeding, and he was fairly sure there was no blood on Tom Marquand when he came back in, possibly suggesting that it hadn't happened during the race or else given the amount, some might have blown back. His opinion was that if the bleeding had occurred during the race, the horse would have choked.

I think City Of Troy would have won regardless given the manner he put away Ambiente Friendly who was travelling so easily 2f out; Mrs Haggas indicated he drifted left at the end in his races. As such, he's inexperienced and needed more time. She also indicated Economics would run over 10f in a Gp 2 next time.

The irony is that he swerved the derby to look after him, and then went over to the lions den in Ireland and had a brutal race. Done amazing to win I felt, but could have gone either way after that, and looks like it's the wrong one.

i hope that winter the off will both strengthen him up and perhaps reduce the bleed risk. He has always looked unfurnished to me and I wonder if his raw ability meant that they over faced him this year. He could yet be the real deal but I doubt if he will ever beat Calandagan who was unlucky yesterday.

Yes the winner was ahead of Calandagan going well, got shoved to the back of the pack, behind Calandangan and passed him easily once in the clear.
Some people are arguing Clandangan would have gone out of reach if getting clear running all the way but I don't see it myself. The winner had gears left when pushed back, as he demonstrated.

All opinions. The winner had the best turn of foot but Calandagan had no daylight either and nor did Iresine. A very unsatisfactory race which told us very little about the relative merits of the field.

the only excuse for 2nd imo,is he used up to much petrol before the straight making up the ground he lost leaving the stalls,he didn't exactly cruise in to a winning position imo

I`m glad the bleeding debate has resurfaced.Racing establishment taking us betters for mugs! the stallion value going forward has plummeted and he won`t be covering anything in Germany as they ban bleeders from covering duties. sums up the state of british racing trainers and journos reporting what they are told it was obvious to a blind man dancing on strictly the horse had bled in the race at York and not in the stalls. it was all about stallion value. And I maybe wrong but am sure that in France there are various herbal remedies that can be given to stop the bleeding.

Poor ride by Marquand bringing the horse wide into the straight, that is why Dettori was so good at Ascot knew u had to be inside your main opposition turning into the straight at course

Economics never looked like winning at any point. I cannot agree it was the jockey's fault. There were too many contributory factors to his defeat.
Does a stallion which bled at races produce bleeders too?
