Haggas said he was special Yesterday on Nick Luck Podcast he also said Shaamit could barely walk the Day after he won The Derby so he didn't want to **** this Horse up.

By:
He was quite pointed on that issue, said something like he almost cried!!

visibly bleeding from both nostrils post race...stewards report states banged head in stalls

I just got back and checked the video chavman. He didn't look like he had a cut on his nose in the last furlong. In fact he even very kindly turns his head to the camera 1/2 furlong out to show you his nice clean white nose. I wouldn't want to bet him for the Derby even if he was in it.
By:
I will definitely back him if he runs.
By:
Am I being silly ? Why wouldnt he go for the SJP , decent gap/track etc if he is a big baby he can go 12f later .
By:
Big baby or might not stay but the reality so far is of a horse who has improved with every race.
By:
If he's going G1 next and avoiding Epsom, i'd rather go Eclipse than SJP, since Sandown's long straight would suit much better. as opposed to Ascot where short straight would mean needs time to get back upto speed, particularly over 1 mile. Also the additional 2 or 3 weeks may be preferential for his physique.
By:
Obviously would mean taking on the older more experienced horses, but even if you go G1 against just 3 year olds, you're still very much right in at the deep end.
By:
Sorry guys I was brain dead re my SJP distance apologies .
By:
He’s a massive chunk of a horse and totally understand why Haggas removed him from the Derby.
The Eclipse, Juddmonte then Arc or Champion Stakes is the correct route for him imo. |
By:
whats the difference in distance between ascot and sandown straights ?
been punting 50 yrs and never thought of SANDOWN AS BEEN A PARTICULASR LONG STRAIGHT or ASCOT AS A PARTICULAR SHORT STRAIGHT |

cheers so length of sandown straight on a par with length of york home straight,
i,d have never have flunked it,would have guessed 3 furlongs max at sandown |

By:
Betting bleeders for any G1 is pretty risky to say the least.
By:
The bleeding I understood was caused by an injury in the stalls.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, ECONOMICS, had bled from the nose. The Stewards reviewed footage of the horse in the stalls with the representative of William Haggas, and noted that ECONOMICS’ head had made contact with the front of the starting stalls, when the colt lunged forward having briefly become upset after AL MUSMAK (IRE), was fractious in an adjoining stall during the loading process. |
By:
you can back him at around 8/1 on here, just been added to the exchange

By:
Wouldn't be backing anything so far ahead.

Well Sparrow he bled from the nose after the race and not during (at least from what I can see on the replay). I think anyone believing that was from a bang in the stalls is taking a bit of a leap of faith.

I have no reason to disbelieve the stewards version, honcho.

It wasn't the stewards version sparrow. They said it bled from the nose. The explanation from the trainer and jockey was that it was a result of a bang in the stalls. How on earth could they say that after the race without an examination? Its laughable tbh.
By:
I'm not a veterinary expert myself and was just posting what the veterinary officer reported. If people know of different evidence then lets see it.
By:
No, the vet said it bled from the nose. The vet did not give an explanation why. The vet did not report any damage, bruising etc on the colts head. It was connections that said it was from a bang in the stalls. If you believe them that's fine but be clear the vet said it bled from the nose.
By:
What do you mean mean no?
The report posted said "Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, ECONOMICS, had bled from the nose" I merely posted the report and nothing else. |
By:
Sorry sparrow I though you were suggesting the vet said it was from a bang in the stalls. My apologies.

From around 7.10 in, here's the barstewards version of events, who I think were there, and according to Jonjo (respected poster on here back in the day), they needed half a roll of kleenex to stop the bleeding, and he was fairly sure there was no blood on Tom Marquand when he came back in, possibly suggesting that it hadn't happened during the race or else given the amount, some might have blown back. His opinion was that if the bleeding had occurred during the race, the horse would have choked.

He's sticking to 10f, and Gp 2. The trainer was not swayed. I think his judgement not to go to Epsom has been vindicated.
By:
Nothing vindicated at all until his next run.

By:
Gutted he didn't run. Would have got a better price on the winner
