Why do British trainers put up British jockeys in America? Moore and Murphy lost the race.
sure the British boys would be well chuffed when the trainer tells them some American geezers riding it in the $1,260,000 race on Saturday. but on the bright side you'll probably get a few decent rides at Chelmsford City for £4k a pop. Marquands already shown the Yanks how to ride a horse btw. |

That interview with O'Brien was painful. Imagine having him argue your case with the racing authorities.
|
|
By:
Well he'll probably still win the race so it makes things easier.

By:
Not read the thread sorry IA, well done Marquand and unlucky Murphy, was abit of a rough ride in first quarter.
|
|
By:
Aiden O'Brien was extremely courteous to the Amrican vets, and biting his tongue. But, I think he was fuming underneath that calm exterior.
I've noticed Moore lost so many races in America on much fancied horses. I think I'll 'lay' Auguste Rodin for a few roast chickens tomorrow. |

Been a thoroughly enjoyable evenings racing, never had a winner but its been enjoyable, its nice to look at how the form of racing in other countries is or isnt easier to understand than our own. I for one, wouldnt like to be playing the US markets too often.

Fair profit thanks to Hard To Justify, but a bit miffed it wasn't better. Nothing worse than fourth.
First two races showed the problem of not breaking from an inside draw. No Nay Mets was always playing catch-up. Had he got away he might well have finished third instead of fourth. Candied had an horrendous trip in the second, and was probably the best horse in that race. Hard To Justify and She Feels Pretty both did well from wide draws and the winner toughed it out best. Locked finished well, but was never at the races. Not sure why he got so far back. Can Group was another to get a terrible trip, and was probably the second best horse in the race. On another day they might all have collected. |

Greg Wood at Santa Anita
@Greg_Wood_ Sat 4 Nov 2023 00.14 GMT Big Evs, Mick Appleby’s first runner in the United States, never mind at the Breeders’ Cup, got the European challenge at the 2023 meeting off to the perfect start here on Friday night, taking the lead a furlong from home and then holding the strong late run of Valiant Force by half a length in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Tom Marquand was quickly away from the gates aboard Big Evs, though not quite as rapidly as Crimson Advocate, the Queen Mary winner at Royal Ascot in June, who led the field into the final turn. A burst of speed at the top of the stretch then took him into a decisive lead as Valiant Force and Starlust stayed on to complete a 1-2-3 for European-trained runners. Appleby made his name as a prolific trainer of winners on the winter all-weather circuit and also by reviving the careers of older horses transferred from other yards, but can now reflect with pride on a near-perfect season for Big Evs, who also took the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in mid-June. “A small yard like this, I’m grateful for the whole team,” Appleby said. “They all deserve it because they worked all year. The race all went to plan, [he] jumped well, got a lead, and coming off the bend, he kicked again.” For Marquand, there were few worries at any stage. “He had the speed today,” he said. “He did break half a length slower than a couple of them, but he hits up gear and he trucks along. It wasn’t the smoothest [around the bend] but he got the hang of it halfway around.” Big Evs is named after a close friend of Paul Teasdale, one of the colt’s owners, who died last year. “Paul Evans was a personal friend of 40 years,” Teasdale said. “We went racing together for 25 years. I bought the horse in March of this year, and didn’t necessarily buy him to call him Big Evs. We were going to enter a race and we needed a name and it just seemed a natural thing to call him.” Later on the card, Donnacha O’Brien’s Porta Fortuna went down narrowly behind the 9-1 chance Hard To Justify in the Juvenile Fillies’ Turf, while Just FYI took the Juvenile Fillies on the dirt. Fierceness, who made a scintillating debut earlier in the racing season but disappointed on sloppy ground in his Breeders’ Cup prep, returned to his best to run away with the Juvenile. Unquestionable landed the Juvenile Turf for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore, after River Tiber, the initial favourite for the race, was ruled out by a veterinary panel on Friday morning. |

It was more than bad news anything trying a stretch run last night. You had to be in the first five or six. I think that might mean it's game over for two of mine tonight, Kelina and Kirstenbosch.

Cody’s Wish seems prime for his final race
“Cody’s Wish was full of run and then some once again on Wednesday, turning in another monstrous gallop during which he completed a mile from the wire once around in 1:53 while tossing out sub 14-second furlong splits most of the way.” - For the Classic I will go for Ushba Tesero and maybe also in an each way double with Vauban on Tuesday :) This isn’t a very good renewal and all this horse does is win. Won the DWC in easy enough fashion (thought he made Algiers look silly that day), then a nice break before warming up for this with a routine win / prep race back home and has been training superbly since he arrives. Watched some tape and he was skipping around Santa Anita. He’ll do for me. |

I think Webslinger looks a class above this field in the 5.50. But the jockey will have to work out a trip. Could be worth a play in running.

Work out a trip not go another furlong wide the whole way round! You just can't trust US jockeys.
