You will probably never have to go through them as you don’t even bet

You are all over the place (again) BR

Last week (according to you) I was the cause of the problem - i.e. The on-line bookmakers were forced to close winning accounts and promote slots/casino because people like me were winning so much easy money from them when they were just bookmakers.

But this week, you have decided that I don't bet at all.

Which one is it? Do try to keep the discussion rational ffs.

I sincerely hope none of you think the bookies are good for horseracing, horseracing industry and punting. How can adequate funding be adequate from the Levy if "bookies" do not take bets, restrict bets or close down "recreational" accounts?

BINGO!

The Racing Post's continued scaremongering around affordability checks shows their only interest is themselves and shareholder profits.
A lot of people on Social Media are turning away. (YouTube numbers have been poor) They need to have a balanced approach for readers they don't care about.

I dunno if you bet or not, TM. My suspicion is that you don’t very often, and you made it perfectly clear on the other thread that these checks and measures being bought in won’t affect you in the slightest.

The problem with the restrictions is that bookmakers made it way too easy to win, because they made all their money on the slots etc. Literally anybody can do it, it’s not even low hanging fruit, it’s fruit that has already been picked, peeled and put in a bowl for you.

Absolutely anybody can follow the exchange to tell them which horses to back and which ones not to, there is software that can do it for you (which is also a big part of the problem). You’ve got single mums on mumsnet, who don’t know one end of a horse from the other, who have taken 5 figures out the bookmakers just by following matched betting rules.

If you want bookmakers to take your bets, two things have to happen. 1) they do away with all the concessions, BOG, extra places, money back as free bet offers and 2) people have to be allowed to lose.

As these new measures ensure nobody is even allowed to lose anymore, you’ve got no chance of getting a minimum bet guarantee or people being allowed to win. A lot of the concessions like BOG are quickly getting removed now too, given recreational betters are far worse experience.

Most punters, who can’t be arsed with the rigmarole of constantly opening new accounts and betting in other peoples name just use the exchange. And if the bookmakers did stop all the concessions and easy money, you’d be far better off just using the exchange anyway.

The fact (apparently)nobody can get on at the bookmakers is irrelevant. Under these new affordability measures, people are going to be stopped from betting full stop. That is the issue.

Why are you so certain that TM will be affected?

He has no idea whatsoever either way if I will be affected or not sparrow.

He just needs to drag it down to a personal level - because the rational discussion has left him stumped (again).

He accused me of winning too much and then of not betting at all within the space of 3 posts on the other thread. Whoops

Never accused you of winning too much. You dont have to even win to get your bookmakers accounts closed. You were boasting about how many different sets of accounts you’ve been through at the bookmakers, suggesting you have been multi accounting to take advantage of the easy money available through doing so. I said you’re part of the problem for doing that.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be all self righteous and moan that the bookmakers are being predatory and taking advantage of addicts, then complaining that they close your accounts for trying to get a slice of that very same pool of money.
By:

I have "multi-accounted" once or twice for sure - but I wouldn't get out of bed for the "easy money" you keep referring to. I multi-accounted to get the price being advertised by an (alleged) bookmaker.

I don't suppose you are aware that these "intrusive" and "draconian" checks have been going on for more than a decade? Anybody that wins has been subjected to them, if they have the temerity to try and make a withdrawal!

If you don't know what price something should be - don't become a "bookmaker" imo.

To all the people claiming The Racing Post is blatantly just for the bookmakers, exactly what do you want them to put in it that isn't currently there ?
By:
BoosterRooster
When: 22 Sep 23 14:50
LOL like you would know what price anything should be if you didn’t have the exchange to look at.

Bookmakers have to price up every race, it’s not hard to pick off their ricks. They should go back to 1999 and just price up 3 or 4 races a day, then let everybody wait for the show for the remaining races. Would solve majority of account restrictions.

The continued conflating of issues
These proposals do absolutely nothing. Nothing to make bookies take anyone’s bets
They do however add another argument for bookies NOT to take bets
That is the reality and the people arguing for it openly admit they don’t really care what happens.
They are in-effect risking other people’s freedom based on wanting to ‘punish’ bookies
When bookies arn’t even getting punished
Unreal

Blunder

I think people would like the only trade paper to investigate why for so many years people are struggling to be able to get a fair bet ,any other sport where unscrupulous goings on happen would have there journalists snooping around to dig things up and expose what’s been going on.
By:

ok - so again, the only answer you have is insults or to make it personal. That speaks volumes.

Starting to think you might actually be Tom Kerr or Lee Mottershead etc. You started out all eloquent and rational - when that all got picked apart, you got pretty angry and all you've got left is to try and play the man instead of the ball.

You're probably right though - I lost all my accounts because I'm not capable of pricing up a coin toss Laugh

Is it the general consensus on here that exchange withdrawals would also cause a problem the same as a bookmaker account? And I do realise that this exchange is also owned by a bookmaker.

I suppose I should have put it better in the sense that regular withdrawals will inevitably lead to many deposits so would this cause a problem on here despite having a deposit limit set many years ago with a large limit?

sparrow - the honest answer is that I don't know. My recommendation (assuming you are here for leisure/pleasure primarily??) but would also apply to anybody else - would be to get 2 stage authentication (if you don't have it already) and stop withdrawing, until we get some clarity.

Anecdotally, on here, some people are saying £100 is their deposit limit per month - but we only have their word for that and it might just be that they were displaying all the behaviours of a degenerate betting addict!

Betfair (like all the other bookmakers) are currently making it up as they go along. It's panic stricken chaos!

Obviously I don't believe in conspiracy theories - but it's just a bit strange (imo) that in the absence of any specific numeric guidance from the GC, they (and seemingly all of the other on-line bookmakers chose voluntarily to adopt the most intrusive and draconian measures possible. Great stuff, the management.

Let’s just hope that once the gambling commission and anti gambling campaigners have finished with the slots and FOBTs, destroyed horse and greyhound racing, that they don’t set their sights on under 21 football too.

And as for showing signs of being a degenerate gambler, isn’t betting on a football match that nobody else even knows is happening a bit of a red flag?!

I have had 2 step authentication for years now but have no intention of keeping a large sum of money in my bank. Withdrawing once I reach a certain figure is my way of keeping discipline and I suspect many others too and see no good reason to alter that.

The Racing Post, BHA and Racing Media are conducting their own online survey to give horse racing punters the opportunity to voice their opinions on the GC proposals. Perhaps those that have an interest beyond their hatred for the paper and bookies might participate instead of bellyaching on here?

The survey is a 26 question poll and can be accessed via the RP, better late than never I suppose and at least they will have something with which to tackle the GC with when those charlatans produce their own results.

Obviously betting on a game that you think you know more about than many other people is not the sign of a degenerate gambler or a red flag. I have played 4 soccer markets today in total (The u21's PDL, One in Estonia & 2 x Kazakhstan games). At 6pm I'll be playing the German Regional Leagues.

I'm doing just fine. Thank you!

Not me you have to convince,TM. It’s the safer gambling teams. Let’s just hope the rest of your bets win as betting on those obscure leagues is a sure sign of a problem gambler if you ask me.

No wonder you couldn’t care less if horse racing punters get stopped from enjoying their hobby. So long as you’re doing just fine.

It seems a bit ironic to me, you tried to make it personal and even started trying to take the p1ss out of me - but I'm trading away quite happily here and haven't made a deposit since God was a boy - yet (according to you) you have made so many deposits that you have restricted you to £100 per month for your own protection.

It seems to me that getting personal and trying to take the p1ss probably wasn't the best idea you ever had, given the respective positions we find ourselves in.
