There was some discussion about the comp format after the first round and I thank everyone for their suggestions.
If/when we do this again I will probably make some changes but not now we are in mid-flow.

64 players drawn in 32 matches, winner progresses to next round.
The Draw is tennis style, ie. your path to the final will be fixed. Each round will take place on a Saturday. I will choose 5 of the highest profile races for each Saturday, and selections must be made from those 5, one per player from each. I will try to spread the races across Turf, Jumps, AW, but it just depends what's available. Races will be confirmed shortly after Thursday's final declarations and entries open at that point. Within each match, duplicates not allowed, first come first served. If you do inadvertently duplicate, then of-course you can change up to cut-off time, otherwise no runner no points. The cut-off time for posting all selections will be the time of the first chosen race, I will make the specific time clear on the Thursday. Points will be awarded as follows: Winner of a race gets 5pts, runner-up gets 3pts, 3rd 2pts and 4th 1pt. A bonus point will be awarded to any top four finish if the SP is 3/1 or over, 2pts if 5/1 or over. Points scored will be totted up for all five races and highest scoring winner goes through to next round. In the event of a tie, the player with the best priced winner goes through, or if no winners, then runner-up and so on. If both players fail to score then whoever has best priced 5th or 6th etc. will go through. Once you have posted a selection you may not change it unless it is a non-runner. Non-runners - you may replace up to the cut-off time. You may not leave reserves as it may impact on what your opponent can choose. I'm an OAP so can sit here waiting and, if I choose, assess and select from the moment the races are posted. As such, some horses stand out by quite a way this weekend (see other players choices!) and given their strength I've fended up selecting similarly. I feel the (perceived) advantage of picking first is therefore maybe even more advantageous this week (although I was 2nd pick last week) and, as such, my opponnent is very much disadvantaged (hopefully!   ).A bunch of more open races (handicaps?) with better rewards for placed horses, whatever the course/quality, would probably help to counteract any bias should you choose (hopefully) to run it again. Last week some people didn't think going first was an advantage.
I don't think the races this week are that bad. The first race has an odds on shot, but it wouldn't surprise me too much if it got beat. We are in September, and it hasn't won this season, and not all horses take to Chester. I have backed something else each way in the race. The other races have alternatives to the favourite. I think it is better to have a mix of races rather than just all big field handicaps. The thing is guys, we all want different things, I'd like no AW, a 2yo race or two, an Irish race or two, even a hurdle or a chase to provide a variety which tests every punters metal in finding winners. I wasn't in awe at this weeks races when I looked, but I've just got on with it as UD makes the choices as he sees fit and thats fine by me. And the more you look at the races, if the fields don't cut up, they could provide some unexpected winners, so good luck to all!!
