Wouldn't cross the road to watch those York handicaps never mind £75!
By:
Best racecourse in the UK, after 2005 they should have left Royal Ascot there instead of moving it back down south.
By:
Steady on tiger absolutely nothing in horse racing compares with royal ascot although York did a great job in 2005 very enjoyable.
By:
Only one of the six in the Acomb trained in the North.
By:
In fact only one in the 3 races together.
By:
Cant agree jimnast, I've done both, the atmoshpere at York was fantastic and found the whole experience to be way in front of what Ascot provides. Each to their own of course.

Don’t pay 75 just pay 42 in tatts you get to see everything including pre parade and parade ring
By:
RA at york was WO
or as its known washed out on 2 vof the days miserable weather, skys as black as coal ,one race run in a rain storm, everyone soaked through, but keep wearing the rose tinted glasses, lifes **** without them |
By:
Yes each to there own tiger I loved 2005 but only as a one off ,York this week has its own magical occasion which weather permitting will be fantastic.

"Don’t pay 75 just pay 42 in tatts you get to see everything including pre parade and parade ring". My wealthy friends go county stand but yes maybe need new friends or none at all

You already said that in your opening post, howard.

Well worth the entrance fee an Irish 1000 ,st James palace, eclipse, and Sussex stakes winner against a brilliant prince of wales winner a Dante winner and the winner of a Nassau and Falmouth.
For those who did like that sort of race I’m sure bath will provide betting opportunities |
By:
Less than £25 per days racing in the County Stand for badgeholders.
By:
Not exactly sparrow £70+ for a good betting card don't rule out. The two top races are very dull and the Acomb isn't much better. Then as you no doubt would say the handicaps are bookies benefits.

Annual members.
By:
Back to the original point it is very disappointing for the 3 races considering the money York have put up,will the media even acknowledge while they'll all no doubt be wetting their knickers that the Gosden horse has made the cut for the Ebor.
By:
Ribero1 -do you mean that annual members have to pay £25 a day in addition to the cost of annual membership or that they can bring a guest/guest for £25? If the former that seems a bit harsh though I suppose Ascot members don't get the Royal meeting included.
By:
No, its £455 for members, 18 days racing works out at less than £25 per day.
By:
£445.

Say you own the runner that finishes 4th (last) in the Juddmont. That's 53k for jogging around the
course, much more if there's a non runner or you somehow finish 3rd. With G1 entry fees 5 to 6k you could then enter your 80 + rated horse in just about every G1 going knowing that there will be a couple of similar small fields. As regards York. It's a great track and well run but there's no way I'm making the journey up from Dorset and paying crazy prices to watch such a card. It's too bad. Too much racing especially too many Group races. Trainers can swerve running against the best. |
By:
i no york and yorkshire public consider the EBOR the big race, meeting planned around it but having the best £ race for best horses 4 races in to a 4 day meeting .doesnt seem the best race planning
By:
It is an absolute disgrace that the Juddmonte will have only 4 runners. Yet again, trainers show themselves lacking initiative in chasing excellent prize money. I personally am sick of seeing valuable races contested by a handful of horses. The Juddmonte 4th will collect over 50k for hacking round - what a joke!
By:
Are those that own these top horses actually bothered about the prize money?
By:
12 F races, long distance races, queens vase etc were all downgradede frowned upon so we could be fed this diet of small field 10 furlong group ones of which you can take your choice of half a dozen,
By:
did york scrap the dress code as other courses have done?
By:
Dress code still applies in the County Stand pointa, but you will get in anywhewre else around the course in jeans etc
By:
no not jeans just dress shirt and trousers.got tickets for premier racing lounge
By:
"Are those that own these top horses actually bothered about the prize money"? You didn't have to be a top horse to run. TC could have run Gallant Lion

These are the size of fields we can expect in the premierisation window!

Is the owner wealthy enough to not care about prize money is the point? Sparrow the wealthy owners don't want to get beat if they have stallion prospects. So they are bothered about money. But it's weighing one earner up against another. With my slightly tongue in cheek TC comment it doesn't matter with geldings. |
