|
|
By:
value is in the eye of the beholder...
betting a 1/50 that shud be 1/300 is no different to betting a 3/1 that should be 1/2. |

Best run of the day was Jess Warner Judd. After the Hassan fall she was the only European in the top 10 and to be only about 30 metres behind the winner was a massive effort. Relay medal coming up next? KJT needs a 6.50 Long Jump to stay in contention for Gold.

ffs 2 fallers last few yds ya cudmt mek it up. |

They both broke the golden rule of athletics, don't look round! Particularly when you are making maximum effort. It changes your balance and down they go. I do speak from experience having a silver medal from the UK Veterans champs at 1500 metres.

had there been betting there would've been a massive ir upset in the mixed relay. Bol is the world record holder at 400m indoors this year and the US athelte didn't even make the final of the US trials, and she took the baton in the lead!
|
|
By:
I had the Nethelands at 4/1 3/1 and 5/2 and I thought they were certs when Bol took the baton

Track and field was
Fantastic in 80s 90s Suppose we just stopped being good at it Since sky tv and consoles come along Maybe schools dropping off on the sport middle class kids find weed ? We’ve gone backwards ! |

moonwalk, fatty?

Backward in what way? Our current 1500 runners would beat Cram, Ovett etc. on times but still find it hard to dominate the way they did. Track materials and shoes are responsible for most of the improvements in records since 1980. But we have Jake Wightman the Olympic Champion at 1500, KJT is now a strong fav for the Heptathlon to regain her title after Denise Lewis and Jessica Ennis did the same. Hughes and Asher-Smith could get a medal in the 100 metres etc. But the most revealing change from the 1980s when I was competing is the dominance of North Africa. They are just better and Athletics is their top sport. But once the whole thing is over, score all of the European athletes on the basis of 6.5.4.3,2,1 points for top 6 finishes and I will be very surprised if we are not top by a mile on track events. We still struggle in the jumps and throws but no country dominates across the board. Germany and France have gone backwards compared to UK while Norway and Nederlands have improved rapidly.

By:
We haven't gone backward. Best nation in Europe currently. Athletics is a truly global sport with many third world countries possessing natural talent which is being nurtured better than 30-40 years ago
