Not sure what you mean by "the navigation is not for me" on FF?
I use Chrome, moved away from FF an age ago. Edge may be worth trying - it uses the same Chromium rendering engine as Chrome. BF's site looks to be written in Angular JS (which is Google's) so a Chromium-based browser ought to render it best. That all said, I have not tried alternative browsers on the BF site for a long while. |
By:
ok many thanks Edge will have a go at, yes navigation issue for me was changing tabs to another website probably just me but it dont seem quick or easy to find the tabs quickly.
By:
I have always historically used Chrome, and still do mostly - however it's been slowdown time for me on BF also. Problem is, I found the same happened after a little while of using Edge too - BF ran ok for a while, then gradually slowed down again.
Not the same for other websites though which still are fine in these browsers, which is the big question...? |
By:
Over the years I have used them all but Chrome is comfortably the best and more reliable.
By:
Chrome best for me.

For PC, I switched to Edge some time ago and haven't regretted it. It is slightly faster than Chrome and according to NSS Labs comfortably ahead on the malware security front. My main reason for using Edge is the option of vertical tabs which is great when lots of tabs are open, which is how I navigate when using Betfair and the Racing Post websites.
For mobile Chrome is much better than anything else. |
By:
edge has been terrible now for months, ok with everyother sites
By:
The browser that can correctly and efficiently render the betfair website has yet to be invented
By:
When using FF, the Betfair video doesn't work half the time.
If I use Edge, it always works. |
By:
Dr Crippen. I probably have the solution to that if you need it, I used to have the same problem with ATR replays and found the solution. If you want to troubleshoot, fist check if ATR replays work and if not, let me know and I will find the solution.
By:
Hi Storm Alert, yes ATR replays work fine on FF.

During Goodwood Betfair on Edge went really slow about 10 mins before the race. Fine beforehand. Tried Firefox which seemed better, but still slower right before race time, fine well before race time.
My Laptop was over 5 years old, a bit sticky on a few things, so I got a new one. Edge seems quicker now, and getting full fibre shortly, unconnected with Betfair issues, so that might help. Strange thing is the phone app on my Samsung doesn't slow down at all, via the home wifi, thankfully, as I'd to use it to close out a few bets. A mystery.... |
By:
Agree that Edge seems pretty quick. Been using it today instead of Chrome. I ditched Opera quite a while ago.

ok many thanks Edge will have a go at, yes navigation issue for me was changing tabs to another website probably just me but it dont seem quick or easy to find the tabs quickly. --------------- Surely - THAT Issue (individually to You) applies to whatever website you are on - and NOT just Betfair - It cannot be just an individual Betfair problem --------- - and - as for - storm alert's advice to use Edge - so that you can have VERTICAL TABS - instead of the Regular Horizontal TAB BAR across the top of your Screen - Well ... That - again surely - depends on the SIZE of your SCREEN - as, for me, a Left-Hand side VERTICAL TABS Menu is/would be nothing other than an unwanted eyeline distraction - that then .... Reduces the available size of the rest of your SCREEN DISPLAY - unnecessarily - most especially when you are reading a Racecard or Betfair Market Frames - that/when you want TOTAL concentration on. Each to their own - But, most definitely - Not for me. |

try upgrading your ram 1st..main cause of hesitation.

By:
Edge seemed quicker when I first used it on BF, but gradually become just as slow over time - cookies type issues poss?

in six months time everybody will be using starlink.SUPPLIED BY.
mr.musk and AI.In other words everyone on the planet will the the same service at the same time. not sure how they will do it,???????????? |

Wait…no…yeah ignore this.
Now that I think about it the above was a dream I had. |

Still runs like a dream on Windows 7/Chrome/12-year-old Lenovo G770 laptop!

screaming - I wish you all the luck in the world, but connecting to the internet with an operating system that has been out of support and security updates for years is not a gamble I would take.

"but its been very sticky"
"however it's been slowdown time for me on BF also" "edge has been terrible now for months, ok with everyother sites" "During Goodwood Betfair on Edge went really slow about 10 mins before the race" "but gradually become just as slow over time" told padi it would be hard to slow everyone down without people noticing ![]() |

The bizarre thing, longbridge, is that Windows 7 does still keep installing daily updates for Microsoft Security Essentials:
Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Version 1.395.498.0) Installation date: 15/08/2023 19:18 Installation status: Successful Update type: Recommended Install this update to revise the files that are used to detect viruses, spyware, and other potentially unwanted software. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed. What Microsoft doesn't do any longer is any update to the basic operating system. In other words, not creating any new vulnerabilities. I really don't see how this is less secure than installing Microsoft 10 or 11, and having Microsoft continually tweaking the operating system and being shocked when hackers work out how to exploit the new features. Plus, Windows 7 works is just so easy to use. You can still use single-finger scrolling on it. It's great! |
By:
Screaming, whilst Microsoft Security Essentials is continuing to provide protection against viruses, spyware, malware, Microsoft stopped providing security updates Jan20. The reason Microsoft continue to update Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 platforms is merely practicality, it is in everybody's interest that viruses/spyware/malware is not spread by ANY infected PC's connected to the internet.
There are at least six exploits that are now not patched on Windows 7 and when an exploit becomes known, cybercriminals will be able to attack that vulnerability with ease, especially whilst the Windows 7 user base size makes it worth their time. Steering clear of dodgy websites no doubt helps, but certainly there is a risk. I'm assuming online banking of any sort no longer works on Windows 7 as that would be a plain stupid activity. |
By:
What Storm Alert said - MS Security Essentials is *not* patching known vulnerabilities in the OS - and just not visiting dodgy sites is nothing like enough protection.
By:
Between Google Chrome, BT Web Protect and Microsoft Security Essentials, I don't know how I could even get onto any dodgy websites any more. I suppose if I were determined to be hacked, I could download the Tor browser and move onto the dark web and circumvent blocked websites that way. But I haven't.
I do banking on my iPhone, so that's taken care of security-wise. It's now three and a half years since Microsoft stopped updating Windows 7. It feels a bit like crying wolf to still be insisting that the users of this far-superior operating system will still get hacked one day. Or, more to the point, that users of Windows 10/11 are genuinely safer. |
By:
By that I mean that you are indeed safer on Windows 10/11 when vulnerabilities created by updated features are patched. But you can't get those patches until those new vulnerabilities have been identified and already exploited. You can't get the extra safety on W10/11 without leaving yourself open to the extra initial vulnerability.
By:
Good luck then.
By:
I agree that Windows 7 was the best operating system but as others have said a little too risky nowadays.
By:
Thanks, longbridge.
Of course, if you turn out to be right and I'm wrong, you'll never know because it would mean my laptop had gone down! |
By:
google have a copy of the betfair site, and record every bet that is placed.
By:
Looking forward to seeing you still posting. Fingers crossed.
By:
they post my last bet i have placed for me each morning, yet they tell me they do not update windows 7.

t's now three and a half years since Microsoft stopped updating Windows 7.
Is it that Long ![]() Still using on this , I have a Laptop with 10 , But prefer the PC I used XP which was fantastic OS Long after it sell by date .. Tend to agree with Screaming . I think most people are Hacked due to opening Dodgy Emails or Pressing Links on Social Media ,Not happened to me Yet ,and Would being on 10 or 11 Make much difference if that was the case ? |
By:
Would being on 10 or 11 make much difference?
Yes, imo - the security holes in 7 are known, and have been known for years, giving bad actors time to develop and distribute attackes - the security holes that are publically known in 10/11 get patched as a matter of urgency (assuming you let Windows Update do its thing) And by no means all the attack vectors require the victim to click on a link or open an email. |
By:
Does Avast and Advanced System Care etc give much protection against hackers? They all seem to talk about firewalls and malware protection.
