Yes screaming, am sure they understand where their money is coming from!!

As you have already mentioned though, I am unsure as to why BF and the firms seem so eager to oblige so readily?

The mystery is why the people behind the exchange don't appear to be.

The chief executive of gambling giant Flutter Entertainment has voiced concerns the consultation on affordability checks launched by the Gambling Commission last month does not reflect the principles set out by ministers that such checks should be "frictionless".

Peter Jackson said the industry regulator should listen to customer concerns and if the commission did not get the system right that "thousands" of customers could face intrusive checks on their betting.

the rest in clydebank's 8.56 yesterday post.

Fair enough, dave. Took 'em a while though. Until yesterday all seemed to be the usual "we are committed to keeping our customers safe ... welcome these proposals."

Let's hope it's not too late for the penny to drop. I suppose the problem the exchange has is that it can hardly go public and declare that the whole basis of the exchange is that it needs more losers than winners in order to generate the commission revenue.

Anorak can't bet £5 on a horse on here cos he can't afford it.

but he's free to drive to the track, pay to get in (which he presumably can't afford) and have £5,000 on a horse with the on-course bookies without any questions being asked.

that seems like someone just doesn't want him gambling on the exchange.

I do not mind losing to fellow recreational punters here. However, this is not always the case, is it? There are "professional" bookies masquerading as punters sometimes bending the rules to fleece genuine recreational punters. For instance I experienced that betting on Man City Football Trophy Market 2023 eg how many would Man City win? The traders here possibly in cahoot with one other or more elsewhere were laying in bundles - the market was malformed (Betfair description). Then Betfair suspended the market for long periods thus not allowing players to manage their positions.

I was offered £25 as final settlement without recourse to the  independent adjudicator IBAS. I got back over £900 after using IBAS.

I am not sure he said anything about not being able to afford it Hulk?

It was more that he did not wish to comply with intrusive checks into his PERSONAL finances.

And I will be exactly the same as and when they come calling for me.

So they will be losing another solid customer.  Not a massive player, but I turn over a few hundred quid a day and you don't want to start shedding those left, right and centre.

What you all miss is that the "Exchange" is no longer peer to peer since PP bought it. The GC could not have implemented ANY control over an exchange and doubtful they can if PP declared a separation from all their products and revert to just an exchange!!

I think the reason I'd overlooked that Peter Jackson quote is that there's no indication that he's speaking with his Betfair Exchange hat on, as opposed to his Betfair Sportsbook, Betfair Bingo, Betfair Games, etc. hats.

But it is difficult to come out in public and explain that the exchange relies entirely on most punters losing money, and that these proposals will kill it.

Hope there is some soul searching going on with the bigwigs in racing and the betting companies, as to how they let an entity with literally no clue about the product they are supposed to be 'regulating' become all powerful.

It's a joke really.

I mean no one on the GC has an background in the industry, or as a serious punter, not one single person.

There's some smart people on this thread.

Ignore what people, especially the establishment and anyone connected to it say, concentrate only on what they do.

'protect the nhs' they said, what they have actually done is delivered us record waiting lists for the plebs, three years later.

The GBP are being pincered from all angles. I would love it to be that the only suppression we are facing imminently is on our gambling.

the powers that be are saying he can't afford it

then the powers that be need to ensure that on-course bookmakers are making sure everybody that bets with them can afford it.

or it's all BS.

flutter has the leading brands in peer to peer betting in Pstars and betfair exchange - stars can probably survive the hit from uk players restrictions, but more uk players will be restricted very quickly, so how that plays out, who knows. The exchange def relies hugely on uk and given that its usp relies on competition to provide liquidity and decent odds, it will crash very quickly.

Big bookmakers are saying very little because it suits them. They are global corporations now, the UK is just a small part of that. What happens in USA is of far more importance to them at present.

It’s the smaller independent firms that will suffer. They will become unsustainable under the new rules. This suits the big bookmakers too as it wipes out all their competition, will just be 4 or 5 huge global firms left in the market.

Horse and greyhound racing will surely suffer, though it doesn’t seem that the big firms care too much about that either.

The GC commission didn't exist when BF started and when it did exist P2P was regulated.

what don't you understand?

1)For the purposes of this Act a person provides facilities for gambling if he—

(a)invites others to gamble in accordance with arrangements made by him,

(b)provides, operates or administers arrangements for gambling by others, or

(c)participates in the operation or administration of gambling by others.

So there must be one smart legal person on here who could put an end to this.

I decide not to disclose my financial details and cannot place bets on here.
I go to the track and have £500 on an 8/1 winner.
I could have placed the bet on here at 13.0, so the course bookie has had me for £2k.

I must be able to sue someone?
