Potentially some doubt on story after lawyer letter
We received this letter late this afternoon and it makes key claims that, if true, potentially throws some doubt on the story that was on the front pages throughout the weekend. It's a letter from a lawyer who says he represents the young person at the centre of the allegations and he says the young person sent a denial to the Sun newspaper on Friday evening, before publication, by WhatsApp, to tell them the statement their mother made about them was "totally wrong and there was no truth in it". ![]() Nonetheless the Sun newspaper proceeded to publish what the lawyer and the client called “their inappropriate article”. The letter from the lawyer also says: “For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are 'rubbish'.” We don't know the truth of this, we're reporting what it says in the letter. I think we've got quite an extraordinary situation here - we've got reputations, careers, and futures at stake. None of the principals have spoken out openly about what has happened and if you analyse that from a newsroom point of view, this is a pretty unsatisfactory position to be in because this is a 72-hour news cycle but nobody is really clearer about where the truth lies. If you analyse this from a legal perspective, this is really coming down to some very difficult questions abut privacy. The firm that the young person has instructed to contact the BBC is not a modest, high street firm, they are a multinational practice so they know what they're doing. They have repeatedly emphasised what their client alleges is a breach of their privacy - the young person is effectively accusing the Sun of breaching their privacy. That's quite a strong allegation to make. Yet because the individual hasn't been named it's not necessarily going to end up in the courts. I think when you look at this - reporting claim and counter-claim - we end up in a situation where the public wants us to tell them what this really amounts to in legal terms - is this going to amount to a court case? We don't know, and no-one seems to be sure at the moment. |

BBC reports that letter from young person's lawyer says claims are 'rubbish'
The BBC has reported that the claims against an unnamed male presenter who has been suspended have been described as “rubbish” by a lawyer acting for the young person said to be involved in the case. It quotes the letter saying: For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality, and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are rubbish. The Sun printing rubbish - you'll be telling me they wage a constant campaign against the BBC cos they are owned by a multimedia owning billionaire next. |

The problem is there's no media entity that's hardcore trustworthy/reliable. They can all be scum in equal measure. Add the GP to this and it seems only inanimate objects can be trusted.

Who is paying the fees of the multinational law practice representing the young person? They won't come cheap

^ £35,000 - at least.

Story falling apart. No doubt twitterers are scrabbling to delete their tweets before the BBC so-called nonces sue them back into their mum's basements.
To be serious, we may never know what happened, and even if we do know it will be complicated. Sounds like mum blames star for funding her son's drug habit and perhaps exaggerated the rest or made it up. On the other hand, maybe the son wants the money to continue. I did say earlier there was something fishy about the way the Sun reported this story, as if they did not quite believe it themselves. In particular, while they hinted at photos of 17yo boys, when you looked closely the Sun never quite said that. |

Reports keep referring to - "the boy's FAMILY" ... Yet ...
There is No mention whatsoever of the boy's Father .... It is all - "the boy's MOTHER." --------- I would imagine that - The Sun (along with others) are now all avidly 'researching' - "the boy's MOTHER." |

BBC ‘is getting calls from MORE members of public about behaviour of presenter at centre of sex pics scandal’ Sun not letting it go

Family broken up; son on drugs; mum is desperate and blames the BBC star rather than her own shortcomings. Son likes doing drugs; son likes getting money for nothing. Like lots of things in life, it's complicated and messy with more than one cause.
What else is tragic is the Twitter mob pursuit of uninvolved and innocent BBC stars, as well as the usual alt-right Beeb bashers. And if the stars do go ahead and sue their false accusers, that too will be bad because a lot of terminal halfwits will be skint which while really doesn't do anyone any good. |

Millions paying this Mob Billions , it needs to End .. Inexcusable nothing has been said about this till the Sun Went to print We have received allegations and will look into them , back in May would have sufficed . Not this Mob ,the usual skulduggery Came into play .. WHY WAS NOTHING SAID ? |
|
By:
The Sun has said they (THE BBC) have received other complaints from Different persons about the same bloke
BBC need to hold a press conference and say WTF is going on IMO Nothing to answer to ,Sue the Sun's @rse finnish the rag off |
|
By:
If the story does fall apart, then it might have been better never to have said anything. All that has happened since the Sun story is that every male BBC star has been accused on Twitter. At the very least, all bar one of these are not the chap in question.
The accusation was made and was being investigated by the BBC. Nothing useful has come of premature publicity and any number of people on Twitter foolish enough to have believed and spread false accusations now face losing large sums of money. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? |
|
By:
I think there is Blackmail involved Ram , if 35 k Did indeed exchange Hands
Only Fans is the suggested site involved , that all users should infact be 18 , Perhaps Dodgy but not Illegal to offer an Adult money for pics Perhaps rather than be done for Extortion , the Would be model has dropped the accusations .. All seems very strange as you say tomorrow is another day , But if this is all bullsh1t , the Sun are finished imo |

£35,000 over four years. I could afford that and I'm not being paid upwards of a quarter of a million to be on telly.

|
By:
Even if the story is rubbish, it won't finish the Sun. It's not named anyone. It took the Milly Dowler affair to panic Rupert Murdoch into shutting the News of the World, and that was to head off press regulation.
So far as I can make out from a quick look at www.thesun.co.uk just now to check they've still not named anyone, the Sun is trying to shift its ground away from the original story and onto the BBC not reacting quickly enough. |
|
By:
I am not all enthused, nor convinced, by the MOTHER's enthusiastic pursuit, here.
She is reportedly ESTRANGED from the son - obviously separated or more likely, DIVORCED from the FATHER - as there is a silent Step-Father. Just what is in this for the MOTHER? - and WHY ? .... except, of course, a big bung from The Sun. This could all 'turn turtle' - if she has any 'Previous' - which will - surely - come out, now. BOTH Parties may well end up hoping for a 0-0 Draw. |

just dont watch the bbc . and pay em every year to watch t.v

May have missed a thread, a famous singer is being called out for grooming, yet it only seems to be growing legs on the internet not in the papers. Seen enough on both side to prove/disprove the story, certainly hope its not true or a lot of vinyl, t-shirts etc will hit the bin.
One thing thing that really needs addressing, you need to prove who you are before opening Twitter/TikTok accounts etc. |

Junky's lawyer: "nothing inappropriate or unlawful happened, calling the reporting “rubbish”. This should mean the SUSPENDED presenter is able to waltz straight back into his job after The Sun has fried for running with fabricated rot, no?
|
|
By:
Presumably, the vast majority of the people in his work area know who he is?
Are we saying there is no foundation whatsoever in what has been suggested, or it's true, and there was acceptable consent? If the second explanation is true then surely he is finished? |
