Showboaters should be shot.
By:
Jeez - he lost in the photo
2 months should be banned |
By:
P Cosgrave should be made to pay every single punter who wagered on him their payout !
By:
In fact, if they started handing out bans whether you win or lose,
this would cease overnight |
By:
28 days max?
By:
I think it was Paul Haigh who said it shouldn't be ten strikes with the whip maximum - it should be ten strikes minimum.

ALL jockeys should have to watch that again every day they race to show and teach them how NOT to be a complete tit and cost punters probably in excess of £1,000,000. Very long ban and he should consider himself very lucky that he doesn't have to pay back all the losing punters - Cosgrave's losses may be pretty trivial compared to some.
By:
No excuses! There needs to be an award system set up to show how bad these jocks are!

I backed the winner and had the forecast but still a total disgrace, 1 year ban for me
By:
this is the worst case ever in the UK of a jockey easing up and losing............why he didnt give him the go a furlong from home to win by 3 or 4 L is beyond me. i dont get it.
races are lost every day on the flat by a jockey cruising into the lead 2f from home but they usually give it the treatment in the final furlong. they may lose the battle but no one blames them for doing it. this is of course beyond belief as he never asked it to go. it insane. |
By:
He's really sorry for connections
Couldn't give a sh*t about punters? |
By:
He got 28 days, .Humans are human so there will always be errors
In fairness he came on TV to apologise |
By:
Patsy has faced the camera and apologized. Does that make your loss on the race any less bitter???
By:
So did the 'experts' on Racing TV hide behind the 'we all make mistakes' line or were they honest for a change?
By:
By:
I wonder if anything was said to Ben Robinson in the weighing room
A northern-based jock who's not a regular at Chelmsford, and there's Patsy and his mates thinking wtf, did you have to do that and drop the lad in the soft and smelly? |
By:
Another thing - no-ones asking him to whip the horse over the line but surely handicapper's aren't impressed by taht soprt of cocky riding - all he had to do was ride a sensible finish the h;capper knows he could have won 5-10 lengths: sobstewards should still fine them even if they win if they dont ride a reasonable finish or try tomask the horse's ability from the handicapper - then they won't have any reason to try to be clever at the punter's expense

Patsy's gonna have to pull a few extra Strokes when he comes back to makecup for loss of earnings. Or maybe RTV and ITV will give him work in the meantime..
By:
dont think too many wagons will have lost out. lumping on at 1/6. dont fink so
By:
Exactly, Gagging, who was he trying to kid?
The handicapper is probably going to put the horse up at least 10lb for the Redcar win anyway. The horse has two entries on Monday, so maybe the instructions were to give the horse as easy a race as possible. |
By:
Can't see what all the fuss is about, horse didn't stay, simple as that...

By:
He was hardly trying to mask the ability. Just the buzz I think of being able to win pulling up without being asked a question, and screwing it up royally.

(Ring price: 1/8 2/15 1/7 2/13 1/6) SP 1/6fav
they couldn't give it away in the ring .... |
By:
Here's a question for people excusing the ride on the basis that "he's only human and we all make mistakes".
Well hang on a tick, wasn't he trying to conceal the horse's true superiority by taking it easy and win by a narrow margin? Well guess what guys, he got caught out! |

It was human error. It's not an excuse, or justification. Epic fails in sport like that happen because we aren't robots and can be affected by emotion.

The drift beforehand told you all you needed to know...clearly wasn't expected, 6lb rise & didn't stay.

Stewards "Pat Cosgrave, the rider of CONCORDE, placed second, beaten by a nose, had failed to ride out approaching the finish. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Cosgrave was suspended for 28 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that would have finished first."
