ALL jockeys should have to watch that again every day they race to show and teach them how NOT to be a complete tit and cost punters probably in excess of £1,000,000.  Very long ban and he should consider himself very lucky that he doesn't have to pay back all the losing punters  - Cosgrave's losses may be pretty trivial compared to some.

this is the worst case ever in the UK of a jockey easing up and losing............why he didnt give him the go a furlong from home to win by 3 or 4 L is beyond me. i dont get it.
races are lost every day on the flat by a jockey cruising into the lead 2f from home but they usually give it the treatment in the final furlong. they may lose the battle but no one blames them for doing it. this is of course beyond belief as he never asked it to go. it insane.

That would be moderately fair! I would guarantee it would never happen again , like that that !( Unless jockey drunk or on drugs)

Another thing - no-ones asking him to whip the horse over the line but surely handicapper's aren't impressed by taht soprt of cocky riding - all he had to do was ride a sensible finish the h;capper knows he could have won 5-10 lengths: sobstewards should still fine them even if they win if they dont ride a reasonable finish or try tomask the horse's ability from the handicapper - then they won't have any reason to try to be clever at the punter's expense

The handicapper is probably going to put the horse up at least 10lb for the Redcar win anyway.

It was not an error, he deliberately stopped the horse going the pace that it went when asked to quicken, he stopped the horse from striding out. His objective was to win by a smaller margin than the horses true ability merited and in doing so keep the horses handicap down as we all know. He was over confident and cost 1000s of punters, his owners and trainers and rightfully will be punished. What a total ****, hope he is booed on his return and reminded of his responsibilities.

Report Storm Alert April 21, 2023 9:09 AM BST
Blimey just watched, with his experience he really shouldn't be doing that. Grandstanding to easing a horse like that don't fool the handicapper. Looking over both shoulders he must have disregarded My Roxanne as it was so far behind and from then on just glanced at the horses on his outside. Luck sort of conspired against him as losing by a nose, he was in front again a stride past the line (still blissfully unaware of what had transpired). Compare that to how lucky Mickael Barzalona in the Derby of all races was on Pour Moi.

Apart from apologising specifically to connections, Cosgrave did say he was sorry for all concerned. That's more than the usually reliable Willie Carson did all those years ago when he dropped his hands at Lingfield (I think).

Erm, it's not a life and death scenario. And fwiw, medics and their helpers regularly make huge blunders.

An elderly man had the wrong leg amputated during surgery, a hospital in Austria has admitted.

The 82-year-old was due to have his left leg removed on Tuesday, but due to “human error” the right leg was amputated above the knee instead, the Freistadt Clinic said Friday.

The error occurred after a hospital worker mistakenly put a preoperative mark on the wrong leg, the hospital said.
