One sincerely hopes that relevant authorities ensure these fanatics with their misplaced and uneducated views on the true welfare of race horses, are prevented from causing any distress to the animals they purport to love and protect.

I love animals,if Animal Rebellion would concentrate on the real cruelty that goes on in abattoirs with animals getting their throats cut I would have some respect for them. The average racehorse is one of the best looked after animals in the world.

No animal should die in the name of sport or food. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, it's time we rally together to protect the horses at Aintree and cancel the Grand National
No animal should die in the name of food? Militant bean eaters can ferkough. I see they can’t help banding the word Cancel. Why don’t they protest against religion who sacrifice animals for nothing other than to apparently appease a non existent invisible friend? |

I can categorically tell you now, there will be NO disruption from these people. Intelligence gathering face recognition and AI has advanced as we all use mobile phones and tech now.
You may get a few with banners, but that's it. Their threats are just threats. I'm surprised the media have given them such a big outlet... I'm all for peaceful protest, but there is NO chance this lot cancel the Grand National, Maybe 5- 10 years ago but not now with the surveillance we have. |

If you're aware of the Aintree systems in place, you may understand my post. Cant go into details for obvious reasons!

In my opinion these morons like extinction rebellion are protected by the authorities, police etc. Hopefully if somehow they get onto the course and glue themselves to the rails, fences whatever before the GN at 5.15 then Aintree should close the course and leave the f@ckers glued and unable to move. Come back a day later and they'd have p1ssed and sh@t themselves, be hopefully soaked and frozen overnight and begging to be released, then the GN could go ahead!

I am fearing the worst on Saturday and i think the odds are pretty short that we have at least one mor fatality before the meeting ends.Aintree could not do anymore to make the Race safer....Maybe half the field size would help.
|
|
By:
Smaller fences, horses go faster .....why anybody thinks this will lead to less fatalities I have no idea.
|
|
By:
I think Jockeys now have the sense to pull up tired horses rather than try to complete the course.

A very well constructed debate in which Kevin spoke wonderfully well on behalf of the racing industry, very well done Kevin.

after than human beings! |

Why don't these animal rights protesters go and do their thing outside Halal butchers abattoirs, now that is horrendous.

the RSPCA are taking wild ponies of a mountain near me because they cannot survive in the weather and these ignorant fools want to put the thoroughbred out in the wild and fend for it's self, the breed would be extinct in a couple of years.

Just watched the Kevin Blake video. Unfortunately he hasn't won the debate and we should all stop kidding ourselves that he has struck some sort of a blow for horse racing. He was certainly eloquent and his points well argued. But its a simple fact that the debate is unwinnable. Nothing short of a total ban on the sport, whereby risk is eliminated by not incurring risk at all, will satisfy the anti side.
To accept that some risk will always remain is to play into their hands. Reducing the risk to "acceptable" levels just plays into the contra arguement. And to compare the risk to forty years ago is to concede that those who support horse racing believe and understand that there was a time when the risk incurred was unacceptable. Once you've done that, it just becomes a matter of degree. The antis will never concede that it ever comes down to degrees of acceptability. No risk at all, is the only compromise they will ever accept, which of course, is no compromise at all. The problem is one of self-condidence. Are we ready to say enough is enough. We understand what we are doing and appeasement is off the table, as it should have been from the outset. It's racing's problem that it now feels the weight of a societal shift in a perception of morality in many walks of life, although in conflating the use of animals with the use of animals for food, I think the antis miss an opportunity - they are different, both morally and commercially. We have to deal with that issue, and there is no answer that I can think of that will cause the committed to ever change their minds. It isn't going to happen. It's long been my view that the Grand National is a contest that plays a huge part in introducing many to the thrills of horseracing, the seed of a lifetime of devotion to our wonderful sport. But once initiated, most fans come to realise that the race itself is far from representative of day to day racing. It is (or rather was), unique in its conception and in the experience as a spectator. But if it was abolished tomorrow, I really don't think it would be too badly missed by committed fans. But as a target for the antis it actually serves a purpose as a bulwark to the rest of the sport. Let them wave their banners, glue themselves to rails, disrupt and derail to their hearts content. But at ALL costs, keep running it. For as long as we have the National, they are not turning up at Plumpton on a Monday afternoon. |

The 'debate' isn't winning over the nut jobs is it. That is never going to happen. The disruptors are a tiny minority, but the way the world is now, if they shout loud enough they are given a voice on legitimate platforms. The biggest 'threat' really is that this type of mob get a lot of sympathy from the very authorities tasked with controlling them. And most definitely receive sympathetic treatment in the judicial system.

They will be so easy to spot - just look for anybody not drunk by 430 (obv they don't drink alcohol anyway given its use of animals) and dressed up a bit too much in clothes that don't suit them gathering about 430. I'm ok with vegans protesting against horse racing (even if they seem to want all racehorses dead overnight!) as at leat they care enough to not eat meat. It's the meat eating vegans that hypocritically call for it to be gone that amuses me. Good luck with confronting a few thousand pissed up scousers!

And btw well den in working your anti muslim racism into this thread - incredible! Anybody with even the most rudimentary knowledge of abattoirs knows that far far worse goes on in some that is down to plain 'Christian' cruelty - is that ok?You are also being anti Semitic and anti orthodox and some far right Christians (go on read Leviticus) but I don't expect any of you to know or care for that matter. idiots

Lock them all up!!
