Pilot error to me. A brainless ride despite the fast neck pace of High Definition. He beat the winner easily last time. Another bargain price with Lossiemouth post DRF (perhaps).

Another bumper winner that needs further than 2M over hurdles, wasn't impressed at all last time.

if a long odds on shot gets beat its always the jockeys fault .......as i said before its odds on its got all those 111s next to it ,it must win shirley.

Horses don't get easy leads at the big meetings, think this horse will struggle if they go Supreme with it.

I agree with trainer Mullins summary. One cannot ride a horse like a machine, but a racehorse. I think one jockey was stupid, the other was smart. There was no way the front two could sustain that madness pace.

well if your on record as saying its the best horse youve trained ,i suppose youve got to say something,
and when youve already got excuse for a 1 to 4 and 1 to 5 shot been beat,it becomes 2nd nature
so mullins thinks townsend has ridden 2 braindead races in 24 hrs in graded races

never read so much sh1te in my life... went off to fast ffs? there was 5L covering the 1st 5 at the 1st hurdle..at the 4th there was still 5L covering them..the winner was still taking a tug after they jumped 4.. 2 secs quicker than state man 1st--4th who was dawdling.

I have no idea at all whether the horse burst or not, but bursting is usually only discovered omce you've got the horse home and scoped it.

It's relatively rare for it to be visible from the nostrils on the day.

Screaming, I had a filly back in the day and everytime she burst it showed as soon as she finished her race , been in yards were blood was a common enough sight after a strong gallop with some of them , but agree its not always visible right away .

I wouldn't like to argue with you over that, workrider. You obviously have way more experience of these things than me. I was just thinking back to the mare I owned years ago, who was punted down to favourite after three years off the track, and finished tailed off. It was only when she was scoped the day afterwards that blood was found in her lungs.

I then found a terrible seller for her, which she did manage to win, but Martin Dwyer reported that she was 'bloody hard work'. She was obviously remembering what had happened the time before. She had one more run in a claimer, and Dwyer pulled her up, with blood pouring from her nostrils. And that was it. Pipe told me to retire her, and I did.

My point being that she was bleeding and running poorly for quite a few races before it became visible.

One thing for sure is that we shouldn't miss what's staring us in the face, Il Etait Temps just ran a monster race, yes they went quick in front but the 3 that followed also went through the race quicker than State Man did and IET still managed to be a touch keen even through the pace, the fact he then stayed as well as he did was huge, he should be clear  favourite now but this will be lost in the back wash of the analysis that will now begin regarding FV.

thank you for your kind words and very kind offer sad to say after going to the festival for 4 decades we got a badge out this season without the festival. will i miss it yes will i return only time will tell. me some lovely people over the years some we still keep in touch with, a nice storey we were at the November meeting this year and get a phone call from a guy who has a box come and have a drink in the box we loved it after about an hour we get another phone call from a guy who was once well up Corals  saying are you at Cheltenham today i said yes he said Ronnie please come and have a deink with us in my box as i said met some lovely people.

If Facile Vega is all right then the next question is whether he should be switched to the Ballymore where the race will be run at a less frenetic gallop.

We see these abysmal filthy shock results from Henderson, Mullins and Bromhead etc over jumps on a regular basis, makes profitable punting almost impossible these days, never known the sport look as corrupt as it has done in recnet years. Proper punters seething the way the sport has declined.

If they happen on a regular basis basil then why not back the 2nd strings or maybe 3rd strings or more if applicable now and again , that way you'd require an extremely low strike rate to make a decent profit as opposed to backing shorties on the way to the nearest poor house.

Think it was the Spring Juvenile but in any case, and it won't be any consolation I know, you should give yourself some credit for spotting the talent way back then.

Hayden.....backing the stables second or third string, and backing the outsider in small fields seems the way to go these days, I always adapt to the current trends so dont do too badly, doesnt inspire confidence in the sport for the average punter though mate.

Entirely agree mate , been integrating strategies based on that thinking since 2007.

Also disregarded what the average punter thought or what was good for the sport many years ago and practiced what worked for me.

Never had a bet or followed soccer at all basil , too slow a sport for me and too long periods when nothing at all happens.

i wonder if i inadvertently ever knew/spoke to ronnie back in the 80/90's at cleveland park.

FV most impressive performances (Cheltenham & Punchestown Champion bumpers) came when being ridden much more patiently than for the 2 hurdle wins and Sunday's blowout. I'd be inclined to completely disregard Sunday's result.

If they ride him as they did in those 2 races, I'm confident he'll restore his reputation in the Supreme.

The Supreme is normally run at a million miles an hour because all the jocks are buzzed up for the opening race. If Facile Vega needs a steadily-run race, he should switch to the Ballymore. He'd still have the option of the Champion Hurdle next year.

But first you'd want the Closutton vet to give him the all-clear; Facile Vega stopped very quickly on Sunday.

Don't think it will make Cheltenham myself but time will tell.

Predictably all the talk is the FV run with little consideration to the three horses that were also going a strong pace, pace quicker, you'd think that FV and HD had raced 15 legths clear and cut each others throats, truth is that Il Etait Temps were never far away and the winner was still on the bridal late on and stayed very well to the line...monster performance IMO, he's just fashionable so isn't getting the credit he deserves.

Run this race and State Man's side by side and the three in behind FV and HD were all travelling through the race faster than State Man.

Agree with Duffy .All the focus on the underperforming Facile. If he had put up the performance Il Etait T, had he would be 2/5 for Supreme.Il Etait was still cantering despite the strong pace and quickened @  the last beating some smart performers in behind in a fast time. Dark Raven was 10 lengths behind who won @ xmas with Viva Devito beaten 18 lengths . Viva won 20 odd lengths in a hack canter yesterday. Irish Point just caught on the line by Marine Nationale in the Royal Bond just couldnt go the pace and finished a never nearer 16 lengths behind Il Etait Temps.

eye been watching hoarse racing for 50yrs..there no way visually that vega ran wiv its choke out... and i daint kare what mull and towned say to the kontrary.

the winner was only 5 or 6 lengths behind Facile @ most. If Facile was supposedly racing way too fast then so was It Et... Temps and he wouldnt have been cruising coming to the last if that was the case.

I said it on the day that it finished like a sick horse,simply no way it folds that tamely in the full of its health.

Townend admitted he went too fast in an interview after the race but said that it wouldn't fully account for such a dismal performance.
