Fair play to Jane Mangan -she alerted viewers several times to the fact that Facile Vega was on his toes and edgy in the parade ring . Anyone would have had their enthusiasm tempered by that.

so mullins thinks townsend has ridden 2 braindead races in 24 hrs in graded races

Looking at the race again it wouldn't surprise me if it was something like a burst blood vessel, that is if it was something medical.

never read so much sh1te in my life... went off to fast ffs? there was 5L covering the 1st 5 at the 1st hurdle..at the 4th there was still 5L covering them..the winner was still taking a tug after they jumped 4.. 2 secs quicker than state man 1st--4th who was dawdling.

MJK - Just reporting the Irish Stewards, as there was a suggestion below that he'd burst.

I have no idea at all whether the horse burst or not, but bursting is usually only discovered omce you've got the horse home and scoped it.

It's relatively rare for it to be visible from the nostrils on the day.

I wouldn't like to argue with you over that, workrider. You obviously have way more experience of these things than me. I was just thinking back to the mare I owned years ago, who was punted down to favourite after three years off the track, and finished tailed off. It was only when she was scoped the day afterwards that blood was found in her lungs.

I then found a terrible seller for her, which she did manage to win, but Martin Dwyer reported that she was 'bloody hard work'. She was obviously remembering what had happened the time before. She had one more run in a claimer, and Dwyer pulled her up, with blood pouring from her nostrils. And that was it. Pipe told me to retire her, and I did.

My point being that she was bleeding and running poorly for quite a few races before it became visible.

One thing for sure is that we shouldn't miss what's staring us in the face, Il Etait Temps just ran a monster race, yes they went quick in front but the 3 that followed also went through the race quicker than State Man did and IET still managed to be a touch keen even through the pace, the fact he then stayed as well as he did was huge, he should be clear  favourite now but this will be lost in the back wash of the analysis that will now begin regarding FV.

thank you for your kind words and very kind offer sad to say after going to the festival for 4 decades we got a badge out this season without the festival. will i miss it yes will i return only time will tell. me some lovely people over the years some we still keep in touch with, a nice storey we were at the November meeting this year and get a phone call from a guy who has a box come and have a drink in the box we loved it after about an hour we get another phone call from a guy who was once well up Corals  saying are you at Cheltenham today i said yes he said Ronnie please come and have a deink with us in my box as i said met some lovely people.
