8 lengths is 8 lengths, so not over. it's pretty clear I would say.

I played it to NOT win by OVER 8 lengths.  Settled as a LOSER. I thought it means by OVER 8 lengths...  anyone got a clue?

if done on the exchange, there is yes/no but you can back/lay both which can get confusing

Your bet should be a winner.  It never won by more than 8 lengths.  BF don't make things easy for themselves

Laying over 8 lengths is a winner as it didn't win by OVER 8 lengths !  IMHO of course..

To win by over 8l means 8l+ eg 8 1/4 (at least), if 1/4 is the next after 8l. A bet of up to 8l is a loser by my interpretation. However, I think the morons at betfair always take longer to come to a definitive on this to frustrate any winning bet merely to boost their profit unscrupulously, if necessary.

It's a winning bet,can't see the problem or the reason for the faffing,it didn't break the 8 Lengths so pay the man.

I did this bet on the exchange yesterday.

I backed it to win by OVER 8 lengths.
Race was 3:05 - off 3:06 - finished 3:12 - settled as a loser at 3:17

(Knew it had lost - looked about 7 lengths in real time on TV)

Up until the dumbing down of Distance markets last year, there were often 3 options and you were never left in doubt,
which sector of distance you were betting in. It was clear cut.

Betfair, after a thorough investigation according to them, punters wanted a basic YES/NO scenario.

Saw about 50 posts that didn't like the new format and only one who did like it.

In fact in some (big) races with smaller fields you used to get FOUR option for distance betting.
You could do quite well occasionally knowing how horses historically ran, jockey style and ground.

Quite skillful and interesting occasionally.

But now dumbed down to an either YES or NO. That's it.
