The existing law allows the present drastic affordability restrictions, big fines for licencees etc, so the embarrasment for the government is that there really isn't much in terms of reforms that they can put forward despite their hot air.
They could make changes to protect consumers: ombudsman, requirement to ring fence funds, british based office, betting offers/bonuses to be available to all customers and not just used to target vulnerable. But tory governments have never been big on consumer protection.

How can it possibly be going backwards?
It’s apparently been ready and available within a week a couple of times, when boris’ government collapsed it was ready, now it ain’t?
The reality is it’s the climate of never ably saying ‘no’ to minorities that has put the government in this pickle.
When MPs cry in HoP they are controlled by emotion and not fit to do the job objectively.
All this because of the arrogance of those who need help but won’t seek it and the GC who were caught not regulating properly and now tasked with even greater and much more contrived responsibilities.

Protecting vulnerable gamblers is in the original legislation. Unless the government wants to introduce criminal offences around that area there are no law changes required.
Here is a question im wondering. "Who regulates the Goverment?" What I mean is like an "auditer" going into a bank for example to see all funds are legit. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Cheers
You can take the government to the Supreme Court, some have and won.

its called judicial review, but of course this government has now restricted that.
