My bank sat there is no problem there end and betfair now talking about possible limits but will get back to me and this has been going on all afternoon. According to the my betfair account page my limit is .......Deposit Limit: A helping hand to do the counting - Active Current Limit: £10,000 per month
All this nonsense over a £500 deposit after 20 years as a customer.
i assume they want proof of income to reset your deposit level, they might have emailed or tel a while back, but wouldn't surprise me if they are now just doing it on a deposit trigger

Always check that too, elise. They haven't come back to me but had to go to purple for what I wanted to do but a restriction there as well although I hardly ever use it.

ok, well it maybe they've now started doing it after a couple of deposits, if you've stuck 1300 in already this month they are prob just checking, you'll get a 20 questions and please provide your income grilling

If I get restricted below a certain level then I will give up. I have bet on here for over 20 years so am not putting up with this nonsense. Let me tell you whether you believe it or not that I have had far bigger deposits in the past on here.

Been through all that and now waiting for an answer after being passed around the block three times.

JML 05 Nov 22 19:59 Same here but they put me on £100/month but if you have wages/pension you should get more.
Can't tolerate that after so many years in the game. Will have to find another way of doing things or maybe not even bother. Trouble is when you reach a certain age you have to do something to occupy the time.

That figure is wrong as I have had very few bets recently although the past 3 months show a loss of £584 .

Well I don't pretend to understand what this £10000 limit a month is all about and only discovered it today when I was looking for some sort of limit having never been notified of one.

Aye, not much fun when the state interferes in your business is it sparrow? They dont care what you might like doing, they will tell you what you can and cant do. And dont anyone give me the line this is bf acting on getting rid of unprofitable customers. This iteration of owner cant be that daft.
Funny how they are dictating what they think you shouldnt be doing only on gambling though innit?

On a practical level everyone now has to build up a buffer, put the money on some obscure antepost event like I do, it keeps the money safe so you dont blow the bank when laying something too large when the odds change But stops the need to deposit.

I have always believed in personal responsibility, dusty. We all have to learn from any mistakes we might have made earlier in life but to suddenly have someone telling me how to handle money in my mid 70s is ridiculous beyond words.

Just too state. The person who called me said " We are concerned you have had too many bets this month" How are you using your time outside of racing?" Its my time I should be able to do as I please.

Admittedly, I do use a lot of my time involved in racing and being at the track. I love horse racing and always have. But it's my time. It's only going to get worse, people are leaving the game we love. Some of the questions they ask when you get a review, is quite frankly none of their business.

This issue gets more ridiculous - I hope they sort it soon with proper legislation that actually allows for some freedom of choice once again.
I hadn't realised we were now living in George Orwell's 1984 quite this much!
How you spend your time - they are really allowed to ask that!?
The irony for me is that when I was a youngster I blew my wad gambling, and no-one gave a flying sh1t (apart from my creditors of course). Now I'm acatually reasonable decent and controlled as a gambler, they are more likely to stop me doing it!

How does that happen? Lack of discipline?

high proportion of calendar days with a deposit, multiple deposits per day & high frequency of recent play...combined these are the 3 main factors that will trigger a review on your betting

db's advice of leaving a buffer is wise imo if worried about hacking then there's 2 step if worried about self discipline then set your own daily loss limit
say you class 100 quid as a bad day, set your loss limit to 150 a day, keep a working balance of 1k, clear head the next day/week etc don't chase & don't deposit immediately following a bad run use up some your buffer
if sticking to this its hard for anyone to argue you are a problem gambler

high frequency of recent play "That is true I can confirm." But if you have quite a few bets per day (which has always been my style of betting) If I stay within my deposit limits and I have a loss limit in place too.
As wonder has said, if you have a Betfair account, turn on two-step authentication NOW. Because if your account does get hacked, you may not receive your funds back!

I genuinely fail to understand anyone playing on here with more than pocket money who does not have 2FA enabled.
If you think it is too intrusive and you do not have very serious money on here, at least set it up and configure it to only trigger on logins from unknown IP addresses?

The irony of that paper, wondersobright, is in the section headed Limitations to the analysis:
"the research focuses on one type of proxy for harm (serious self-exclusion), being the only proxy available at scale"
In other words, their dragnet is picking up precisely the people who are able to deal with the problem themselves: the ones who deposit only small amounts but frequently, because they don't want to get in too deep, and who are realistic enough to recognize when it's going nowhere and it's time to self-exclude.
The real desperadoes - the ones with delusions of making it pay big, the ones who max out their overdraft or transfer fee and deposit the lot in one go, because they've got a winning system - they slip right through the net. (Thankfully; otherwise there would be no one left to win off.)

wonders, as I posted earlier the monthly figure of my bets so far is way out and if you look at the post you will see the 3 monthly P&L figure. As for my limit I have no idea as they have not contacted me other than that £10000 monthly figure shown.

if you've only deposited £100 in november & BF is saying you have deposited £1340 then it must be a BF system error presumably that's why you can't deposit also

I am waiting for betfair to contact me from yesterday as promised and I will update on this thread once I hear from them. They did allow a £30 deposit last night when I decided to test them so they at least need to tell me of any deposit limit.

That's the socialist nanny state sparrow. To look after us from cradle to grave. They forgot to say they’d look after what we spend our money on as well.

Another lie from the tory party, that 'nanny' state would only exist with a socialist government - these things have been brought in by a Conservative government.

All politics is cyclic, and all ends in failure. One ideology gets voted in on optimism and leaves ruined, only for the opposite to be voted in as a result.
The difference today is populism. The tories are running on fumes since they totally lost their own focus and attempted to undermine the opposition by parking their own tanks on their lawn. There is nothing Conservative about this government, most of their policies are labour policies rehashed. They should have left office years ago and found their core values instead.
We now have this Frankenstein politics with zero integrity, look at the joke of brexit. It has nothing to do with ideology, just power wielding. The Lib Dems want to give 300 quid a month to homeowners who can’t afford the mortgage-pmsl Just as gambling is stopping the prospect of loss, they want to undermine the reality of win and lose. You take the gamble and lose you pay the consequences. Now we are told you are born non gendered. It’s embarrassing.

Contacted them again this morning on that appalling chat service thing and was eventually told that I was in a queue to be emailed. I had been given a reference number on Saturday so the whole situation is a joke.

Hi all...I have been on BF for 20 yrs although my post is not the same as Sparrow's you will see a similar theme....I have been trying to withdraw £1375 since 27th Oct. with no success, I emailed BF and got reply a from guy called "Mauro" saying he would deal with it. The next email he said I should contact Bank, which I did through the Manager who called H/O while I was there who informed him that HBOS would NEVER stop funds being paid into a customer's account and she put that in writing I passed this message onto "Mauro" on 31st Oct.I and received this reply same day. Sorry wonders as I should I have updated this. Appparently the problem was with my bank who had put a block on my account but for no particular reason and blamed it on their security system being too sensitive to something. When I told them that this had been reported before and nothing was wrong the person said the call should have put through to the fraud department in the first place rather than just to an ordinary department. I only contacted them again because it was refusing other payments also.
