Very sad news indeed. We can take comfort that she was still able to meet with Liz Truss on Tuesday so did not have a period of incapacity. Like my own mum, she died of old age. My father managed to rig up a generator and bought a 9 inch TV to watch the Coronation in 1953. We had no mains electricity or water when she became Queen. RIP.

The Queen had been head of state for The UK and Commonwealth for 70 years. As such a suspension of every sport in this country for a weekend as a mark of respect and thank-you for her reign and service is the very least the country and her citizen can accord her.
I understand The Queen has not asked or wished for it but, I'm sure she'd not have minded if this gesture is accorded to her for the service and leadership for the last 70 years. |

I read that Liz Truss was informed at 4.30pm of the Queen's passing. If that's correct, those that flew up to her were too late, as their car arrived through the gates around 5pm. Charles, Camilla and Anne were already in Balmoral.

Interesting to watch Bloomberg with pictures of the Queen with every president since Roosevelt. Biden has ordered all US flags to be at half mast. Would they do that for any other National leader?

Response to impossible123: Our wonderful Queen was never one to sit back or stop. I am pretty sure she would not wish even respectful disruption of people's livelihoods as the cancellation or even postponement of current sporting activities may entail. Enough ... we can each mark our respect in more pragmatic and meaningful ways.
