What got you interested in Juvenile Hurdlers George?
What started me was the Listed race they have at Wetherby about Oct/Nov. About 20 years ago a 5f/6f runner off the flat turned up and won it fto @ 200-1. I followed it for years after and got some big priced wins off it over flat/jumps. Can't remember its name - think it had mao in it! |

DG, I just noticed a few I had in the Flat notebook were turning up in juvenile hurdles and winning. So I started taking a closer look, particularly in the first half of the season when I know they're fit off the level and the better jump-bred types aren't likely to be seen for a while.

Busy morning and I've missed the price for this one, so a token selection at a third of the price that had been available
 The Insider, 1pt win @ 9-2, 2.15 Killarney I've just the one qualifier in this and that's The Insider, who has put in a couple of good front-running efforts on good ground round Gowran and Listowel this season, on the former occasion over 9.5f when doing plenty in second-time blinkers but only giving way to Urban Oais (who went on to win the valuable Ulster Derby Handicap) inside the final furlong before losing second in the closing stages, in a race that was the quickest of three over the trip on the card. He was then only just denied over a mile at Limerick with the headgear removed. He disappointed when a beaten favourite back at Gowran on his latest start when perhaps the easier ground wasn't ideal. He has since joined Gordon Elliott's yard, who also runs Chargo in this and who appears the stable first string on jockey bookings. The Insider does have his stamina to prove, particularly as he has been keen in some of his races, but being out of a Montjeu mare offers encouragement that he will stay. |

I said to DG on my other thread yesterday, I had been expecting my only qualifier to be favourite. But when I took a closer look at the field and saw the jockey bookings on the Elliott pair, I started to wonder. Would appear to have 'fooled' the odds compilers and landed a gamble. |

Rolypolymoly, 1pt win @ 11-4, 1.20 Uttoxeter
Rolypolymoly was selected when he made an encouraging debut over hurdles at Stratford, hurdling safely in the main and keeping on well for second place despite seeming to find the track sharp enough. The winner has since won easily from Free Charkarte, who also runs here. Hopefully he has benefited from that initial hurdling experience and he appears to have the scope to progress under this code. |

I think "early" is the key word, small fields and pretty much the same few horses turning up. Maybe as the Flat season draws on, we'll see a few more switching code. |

interesting race as Mucuna is the common denominator,
I still think Free Chakarte is not a thorough stayer and unless they can poach a big lead, she is always prone to getting outstayed by a better stayer. Rolypolymoly ran well against Mucuna but then so did Fast Forward and on a strict line, I'd go with FF but then Roly was rated a lot higher than FF so there is that ! interesting race |

Never No Trouble, 1pt win @ 4-1, 2.32 Stratford
I've just the one qualifier in this. I marked up Never No Trouble's effort when she finished fifth behind male opposition at Redcar on soft ground over 10f in April, in a race that worked out well. Better might have been expected since off a declining mark and it was only a selling handicap in which she finished second at Ripon over 10f last time when a beaten favourite. The subsequent runs since Redcar have been on better ground, so I wonder if she might be better with some ease, which would obviously be a concern today. She was claimed for £6,000 following her latest start, and while she has her stamina to prove and it could be she needs softer ground to be seen to best effect, it will be interesting to see which way she goes for her new yard. |

Never In Trouble, 1pt win @ 5-2, 6.55 Fontwell
My only qualifier is Never In Trouble who was selected last time for the reasons given above. I was hoping there would be more rain about and the going would be on the easy side, but there has been some this week at Fontwell and they have been watering. On the face of it she's up it against to reverse the form from last time with Graffiti, who may have the greater stamina reserves for this extended trip. So not a confident selection by any means, but hopefully she's come on for that initial experience. |

Graffiti comfortably confirmed the Stratford form. The times were fairly slick at Fontwell so doubt there was much give in the ground, so not sure the surface was ideal for Never In trouble.

Bright Blue, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 4.05 Killarney
Grizabella, 1pt EW @ 17-2, 4.05 Killarney Forgot about this  I've two qualifiers and I'm going to take them EW against the field. Bright Blue's latest effort on the Flat at Pontefract over 12f in June, which turned out to be his final one for Edward Bethell, was arguably an improved effort even though he was beaten over 9l, given the Hugie Morrison-trained winner is a sharp improver, and the runner-up has won since. I also thought the run wanted marking up given how the race panned out. It's possible he appreciated the bit of give in the ground that day, which could be a concern today given the good ground forecast. This will be his first run for a new yard and fitness has to be taken on trust after a short break, but he should be fine stamina-wise. Grizabella, 1pt EW @ 17-2, 4.05 Killarney I actually noted Grizabella on her debut as a 2YO, but it took 8 starts and a drop into claiming company for her to get off the mark. That win did coinicide with a step up to 10f, so perhaps she has untapped potential over longer trips. She shaped nicely enough on her stable debut in a handicap over the stretch-mile at the Galway festival, keeping on well from an unpromising position to finish fifth of the 18 runners. She does have to prove her stamina for this job, but at least comes here fit and in form. |

Can ya believe it, the pair of them were in a group of 5 that were clear up the straight and they end up fourth and fifth
Bright Blue travelled and jumped well for most of the contest, but probably just needed it after a break and ended up 4th. Grizabella, who was very weak in the betting, might have just found her stamina stretched over this 2m1f and faded to fifth. Running P/L: -2.75 |
