Surely every non-classic/ non-group.predominantly lower rated and thus lower aspiration stable operates that way. How else could they survive? I get the impression that his stable has been underperforming and that consequently his horses are on good marks anyway. His one years stats are below his five year and with 5 winners in the last week looks to be on the up and well worth staying with.

I was at Hereford races on the same day as the Grand National, around the mid nineties, I think.
In the first race of the day a horse trained by Tony Carroll wore what I can only describe as a pair of sheepskin paint rollers on its face. I'd never seen the like before. Apparently they originated in France.
The rest is history.
