I know of a youngster who plays regualrly in the Under 23 of a newly demoted Premier League club. He gets about £750 a week (norm is about £400) after a pay rise due to age and near inclusion to the senior team. His lodging and food - both selected, advised and monitored by the club - are paid for by the club. He only pays for meals at the training ground; the club pays for hotels and food when accompanying senior team on game day for moral sypport and bonding.

On an off day (no game - senior or Under 23) he goes to training at about 7.30am (public transport or drive); finishes about 1pm (staying behind for physio, if recovering from an injury); post this he'd do whatever he likes within reason.

Let's hope Mr Merson gets as much back from the bookies who fleeced him to alleviate the pain and sufferings he caused his family. Anything else is a bonus he does not deserve, I think, as it was easily derived, and wasted from a professional activity and natural ability.

Not much sympathy or understanding on here !
Do you guys have the same views or someone who is an alcoholic .

To say that it's all their fault and should ' pull their socks up ' and sort it , because ..etc ...etc. Is completely missing the
point , it is an illness. And like mental depression, should be treated as such.

It's very easy to have a ' holier than thou ' attitude, when you haven't experienced a life living with an addiction that
utterly rules your life.

Do you know Mr Merson? What some would do to be in his position ie getting paid mega bucks doing a hobby, and living the life of riley? An opportunity wasted; blame no one but himself. His immediate family were the people I felt sorry for. Mr Merson? No!

I have been extremely fortunate in being able to gamble "normally" for several decades. However some people cannot, and there is no doubt in my mind that these people can be targeted by the big firms in a very unscrupulous way. I think it was WH that said that they did not recognise any critical aspects in the documentary which is just laughable - whatever you think of Paul Merson there is no doubt in my mind that weak and vulnerable people are preyed upon by these big firms and using 20% of your budget to put out warning messages in your advert is akin to the messages on cigarette packets - it does not cut the mustard. They rely on preying on these troubled individuals to make their business work and in my opinion it is a serious form of abuse.

I remember a few years back on soccer Saturday, must have been the international break, he was doing a Colchester game, they were winning 3-0, when he lets out a shout, oh no they just hit the bar! Jeff Selling says it doesn't matter they are winning 3 nil, Merson comes back it does matter if you are in goals!!

At that time he was supposed to have stopped gambling, it didn't sound like it to me

Take a look at the mind-boggling Quatsch you can bet on under "live casino" on this site. £1K spins of the Rad on the ironically named Adventures Beyond Wonderland. No responsible betting company should have that as part of its Angebot.

If Mersens giving betting advice with his track record it’s probably best to employ the Richard birch system & do the exact opposite.

very funny storm alert he has admitted that he has lost 7 million on gambling so in theory he is the worst tipster going also with these tips he is encouraging people to bet. if he was an alcoholic would he be doing a lager. wine guide?
he created a 1 hour long programme that basically condemmed the gambling industry that potentially will destroy everyones gambling enjoyment next year on onwards
imo he should remove himself from the betting circus if he strongly believes against this arena and get a job in an office or a factory if he has morals not promote an industry that has destroyed him.
