looks like barring accidents harry is home n hosed now. deservedly so. hughes won it last year so it would be nice and fitting for a new jockey to win it.

Game over. Skelton 148. Hughes 140. Ends Saturday. Hughes did not only offer minimal resistance, he offered NO resistance.

Harry has a massive stable behind him with horses in so many races. Brian Hughes has to rely on Donald McCain for a lot of winners. Most of the time he has to ride so many moderate horses for a variety of northern trainers. Dan Skelton is so good at finding easy pickings for his horses, as is evident by how he has had so many favourites in so many races recently. It should be close again next season between them, plus Harry Cobden. Nicky Richards yard hasn't been firing in too many winners lately and that hasn't helped Hughes, who I think is a class jockey who gets his mounts in good positions in most races.

Yes,it's been extraordinary how much firepower Dan Skelton has had in reserve this last few weeks.

Skelton thoroughly deserves it. All this nonsense about Hughes's mounts. He has had over 200 more rides than Harry. There is very easy pickings up north. He got lucky last year. Won't win it again. Next year I'm looking at 11-8 Skelton 15-8 Cobden 7-2 Hughes 50 bar.

even with the facts in front of them people still making excuses for hughes
believe whatever fake narrative you want but the best jockey has won it with the lesser opportunity of the 2 |

Hughes can't buy a winner this week. Looked beaten a nose again there.

i know there are good jockeys who don't but most top jockeys are judged by how many spare rides they get and especially how many top rides they are booked for at the nig meetings particularly the very top meetings. How many rides did Huges get at Cheltenham??
|
|
By:
I know Dan has so many runners but until this run-up how many spare rides and non-Dan winners has HS had in the last few years..basically none
|
|
By:
Allegedly Skelton's never been too popular? Murphy been his main supporter after his brother recently, they train fairly close,Nicholls has never seemed too bothered about using him in the past, but he's done his bit since Cobden got injured, that will no doubt keep Hales happy.

The Skeltons seem to prefer to work together and it seems to be successful so far. I think that Harry has improved a lot this season and some of his outside winners have been due to his riding ability. His main faults are either going a bit fast in front or occasionally overdoing the waiting but he is one of the top 5 riders over obstacles and usually wins his races out in the country. With riders limited to one meeting per day it has benefitted Harry who gets 5 rides from his brother at which ever meeting they target.

By:
In general the races Harry rides in he is against the top riders and the top trainers, you cannot say that about the races Brian rides in. They are both good jockeys but I believe Harry's task has been a great deal more competitive and great deal harder, he deserves to win it on that basis.
