143 Skelton 139 Hughes. Another nail knocked into Hughes's coffin. 1-7 Harry 5 Brian. Best battle since Sanders and Spencer.

Seeing what he wants to see. Hughes has had 206 more rides than Skelton. Could be argued that Harry cannot compete with the amount of rides Brian gets. Percentage wise Skelton deserves to win.

i've not looked slickster  , but seriously hughes has had over 200 more rides than skelton ? 200 !!!!...and still getting whipped. says possibly a lot about northern  trainers and their horses  too . rachael would be a shoe in over here to win this . different class.

By:

When: 17 Apr 21 12:21
hughes 5 behind and needs a miracle unless Skelton has a bad fall

noticed Skelton's mounts are too short in the morning and usually ease closer to off time

sure as eggs are eggs, if i follow that logic, they will shorten

On form it's no 1.4 shot     but it's the price tag and the skepta juggernaut which means 1.4 you have.

he's being exposed by skelton in certin match type races this last few days. skelton is the better jockey imo.

hughes is a decent jockey up north at the gaff tracks but if he truly is a champion jockey why he not have any rides at cheltenham....mmmm difficult one that

the horse is an overrated short runner with clear stamina limitations imo 1TP...got beat at 1.0 blob with race at his mercy then didn't fancy a battle in better race...it's clearly highly regarded but imo vastly overrated as inrunninggg has stated ...should have won easy on paper today but it gets the timeform squiggle and is one to swerve imo until it wins

ive just wathed the replay again lead on and imo he wouldn;t have won if he stood p...the horse puled hard and jumped sketchily but has a high cruising speed whih took him into the race lovely but when push came to shove the horse simply did not want to know...

Just get the feeling that the Skeltons are being a bit greedy, running some horses they normally wouldn't just to get Harry the title...slight injury there would have put paid to title challenge...personally think Brian Hughes will have a good day today...especially like Marown who would not be out of place in the later novice race....nearly tempted by the 11/2 for Hughes to win the title

Can’t see the stars aligning again and this will be Harry Skelton’s only title. Don’t think he’ll be concerned about retaining having achieved his ambition.
Would make Brian Hughes favourite as in a ‘normal’ season can see him being 20-30 in front by the time Chepstow comes around. The Northern circuit being wiped out in January didn’t help him this time around either.

There should be a system where the better races at the better tracks are worth much more than a winner in a seller at a khazi. Maybe say 10 points for a Cheltenham grade 1 down as far as 1/4 of a point for a normal midweek race at sedgefield. The current system is a joke as it stands , where the champion jockey can be not in the top 16 riders in the country , and is amassing wins at banded tracks in banded races against banded jockeys . On top of that most of the racing there is as bennt as a two bob note . I could name 20 jockeys better than Hughes , and his employment rate at the big meetings signifies that I’m not on my own

This is the problem with some sports. The title 'champion jockey' is virtually meaningless to everyone except the holder of the title. Lewis Hamilton is a champion but he has the best car, he is probably the champion out of two. Man City etc, several of the top teams are best because of the money they have. I don't know what the solution is but, to me, some 'champion' titles mean absolutely nothing.

Personally don’t think any of the T3 are truly top notch.
Taking Aheadfullofdreams as an example, a gaff master, Sir AP McCoy, possibly would have won on him at Catterick, probably at Hereford and definitely at Plumpton.
Of the T10, only Jonjo O’Neill looks to have the scope to join the elite we’ve seen in the last 20 years. His weight is going to be a hinderance when it comes to titles, though.

Had forgot that 3 months were knocked off this year which as Numismatist points out would have probably helped Hughes, however with Skelton and Nicholls so far ahead numerically it's hard to see anyone else making a challenge .
