Latest update for bookmakers, they want you to wear different clothes everyday (doesn't mention underwear!),use a sterile float i.e pay out separate money from what you take in,name ,address and email for track and trace so if anyone on the track is found to be positive 14 days in isolation.
Presumably that applies to everyone attending? Presumably they've now announced this as they've sold all the tickets as no way would everyone stand for this surely?

Based on the amount people are paying they could provide everyone with a mask and a tube of hand gel and I'm sure that would go a long way to minimizing the spread of infection

Different clothes - there is a logic to that but it's never been mentioned (as far as I know) for those visiting indoor gatherings which I believe are far more risky as regards spreading infection.

It is indeed insane SMB,if this is the new normal we are totally fecked and i don't just mean going to the races,i wonder if the general public realise they face 14 days isolation if just 1 person tests positive?

Different clothes? LOL.

This is the jobsworths enjoying their day in the limelight. Just hope this kind of insanity doesn't stick for good.

But, how would they know if a bookie has on different clothes?

Will they be sitting at the CCTV watching day 1 and noting down all the outfits. Or have a team of people logging details of what the bookie chaps have on, ready to pounce if an outfit is repeated over the next three days? Dear god.

I've been saying it for months. All too easy to go into a lockdown but incredibly hard to come out of it - mostly because Boris and his pals now don't have a scooby what to do and so have passed on the responsibility to those lower down. And the latter is exactly where the jumped up jobsworth come in.

Donny has been a farce for seven or eight years now and this is more proof.

I hope I'm wrong but odds on this won't happen now given the rise in positive tests.  The Goodwood trial was cancelled when things looked far better than they do now.

1 bookie at Fontwell yesterday, about 50 owners, food was ****. This was about half the crowd of 19 days ago.

No big screen, seemingly they are not allowed to transport screens from course to course. Only tracks with permanent screens are operational.

It is not a good experience

This is what I got from Newton Abbot concerning a runner there today. Sounds like a real fun day out - I took the last line to be sarcasm:

·      All owners will need to complete a short online Covid-19 learning module which only needs to be completed once before your first visit to a racecourse – https://www.roa.co.uk/raceday/covid19/return/elearning.html.  Secondly, assess your own health using the personal health assessment questions on the ROA website – https://www.roa.co.uk/raceday/covid19/return/health-questionnaire.html.

·      All owners or representatives must bring Photo ID with them to the racecourse.

·      The owners’ entrance will be staffed from one hour before the first race time, no entry will be permitted before this time.

·      Owners on course will have access to a dedicated ‘owners’ zone’, which will be separate from raceday workers (trainers, stable staff, jockeys, officials, media etc), who have undergone a more rigorous health screening process.  For infection control purposes, no movement will be permitted between the two areas of the racecourse.

On arrival, you will be asked to provide photo ID as proof of identity before answering the three questions below about your current health:

1.    Since completing your questionnaire have you been asked to isolate and/or take a test by NHS Test and Trace?  YES/NO

2.    Do you feel unwell now with specifically a cough or fever?  YES/NO

3.    Have you taken any paracetamol or ibuprofen in the last 4 hours?  YES/NO

If you answer ‘Yes’ to Questions 1 or 2 you will not be granted access to the racecourse and will be advised to travel home.  Question 3 should be asked, but the response does not impact whether you can attend.  This will be followed by a temperature check.  Your temperature will be taken twice in quick succession, with the lower reading recorded.  If on both occasions this temperature exceeds 37.8°C, you will not be granted access to the racecourse and will be advised to travel home.  If any member of your vehicle fails to clear the entry screening process, all those travelling together will be denied entry onto the racecourse.  Once passing the temperature check, you will be issued with your owners’ wristbands.

You will then be directed to the Owners Car Park which will be clearly marked and then proceed to the owners’ desk where you will register.  Owners at Newton Abbot will be accommodated in the paddock room, which is above their usual lounge at the top of the stairs.  Access will be clearly marked.  You will be able to view your horse in the parade ring from the balcony.  You will then be able to watch the race in the grandstand which is accessed from double doors in the paddock room.  A bookmaker will be accessible to you from the bottom of the grandstand steppings, and a Tote position is available within the owners’ room.  A briefing area is provided to enable you to speak to your trainer and jockey if available.  A bar will be open in the paddock room and food will be provided along with tea and coffee.

There will be no winning owner presentations as owners are not allowed into the parade ring, however we will be able to give you your trophy to take home with you if you are with us on the day.  Your photographs will be forwarded as soon as they are available.

We look forward to welcoming you on the day.

As you are probably aware, the racecourse is operating under strict protocols for Behind Closed Doors racing that the Industry agreed with the Government to enable the safe return of horse racing.

As part of that process we are delighted to be able to host owners again but there are some changes to your facilities and the areas which you can access and it is important to note that these measures should be considered as a step in the right direction at this current time.

The following requirements are in place to allow us to provide entry, full details of which are available from the Return to Racecourse Guide for Owners Guide.

Check In - All owners will need to complete the COVID-19 online learning module in advance of the day followed by health questions and a temperature check on arrival at the racecourse. Please note: Given that there are separate parking arrangements for each zone, we would recommend owners and racing personnel travelling separately.

COVID-19 online learning module - https://www.roa.co.uk/raceday/covid19/return/elearning.html

PASS - It is essential to register your attendance no later than 4pm the day before racing using the Racecourse PASS System via https://www.rcapass.com If you do not have access to the PASS System or need any assistance in its use, please contact the PASS Helpdesk on 01933 270333 or pass@weatherbys.co.uk

ID - All owners, guests and representatives must bring Photo ID with them to the racecourse. Note that it is currently not essential to bring your PASS Card.

Times - The Owners Entrance will open one hour before the published first race time, and there is no requirement for Owners to arrive or leave at any given time. You may enjoy as much or as little of the race meeting as you wish with us.

Entrance - We are now delighted to offer four Owners passes per runner. If you have any questions please contact the racecourse directly on 01243 543335 or email info@fontwellpark.co.uk.

Parking ? Please use the normal Owners car parking entrance, stewards then will direct you where to park. This can also be seen on the map; which can be found using the link at the bottom of the email.

Facilities ? The new Owners Zone consists of the first floor in the Tecom Grandstand, some of the Paddock Enclosure and viewing of the home straight and winning post in front of the Tecom Grandstand.

Complimentary Catering ? This will be provided as a range of quality sandwiches, salads, soup, fruit, crisps, snacks and bottled water served buffet style as well as complimentary tea and coffee. Additionally, there will be a fully stocked bar, which will be selling a range of alcoholic and non- alcoholic beverages. Please note, this bar will only be able to accept contactless card payment at this time.

Racecards ? Condensed A4 racecards will be available to all owners.

Parade Ring ? Due to the limited space, and the strict infection control measures operating, you will not be able to access the parade ring at any time. However, you will be able to view the parade ring from the Paddock Enclosure.

Jockey?s debrief ? There is a debriefing area at the bottom of the parade ring that you will be able to stand and speak to both jockey and trainer if you wish. We would ask respectfully as there is limited space that we keep everything moving whilst always observing social distancing.

Zones ? It is important to understand that the Owners Zone is separate from the Racing Zone and access is not allowed between the two in either direction which is a direct consequence of the infection control protocols.

Winning Memento ? The connections with a winner will receive a picture of their horse and jockey and a USB memory stick recording, both of which you will be given on the day. Social Distancing ? You will be required to maintain 2m minimum distance from others. Please follow instructions from signage and stewards and we thank you in advance for your co-operation.

Racing ? For information on the Going and Weather, please contact the Clerk of the Course, Philip Hide phide@arenaracingcompany.co.uk

How To Find Us - Fontwell Park Racecourse, Arundel Road, Fontwell, Arundel, BN18 0SY Please click here to find an updated map with both Racing and Owners Zones clearly marked. If you have restricted mobility and need assistance to access the facilities please do contact us in advance so we can make alternative access arrangements.

We thank you for your patience and understanding in these challenging circumstances and we do hope that your visit is an enjoyable experience as we greatly value your support.

Kind regards,

Paul Ellison
Executive Director

Lead On you are so right, what the heck is she doing?  Carl Heneghan, Professor of Evidence-based medicine at Oxford University has formally come out and said it is no worse than a 'decent flu season', and has said these restrictions are unhelpful. Although he agrees with testing he says the infection rates are totally misleading and many people testing positive cannot spread the virus. I have read that Cheltenham are reducing capacity next year? Sweden have no issues with a second wave (now the lowest infection rate in Europe). But no one seems to want to look at evidence just political nonsense.

I just got this from Newmarket You may well get pneumonia if the weather is bad. Probably put it down to Covid.

JOIN US FOR THE CAMBRIDGESHIRE MEETING PILOT EVENT
We are delighted to confirm that we will be running a pilot event in front of crowds at the Cambridgeshire Meeting on 24-26 September at Newmarket Racecourses. Will you be joining us?
Tickets are available now for purchase in our General Admission (Blue Zone).
All attendees are allocated entry to a single zone on a raceday, with no crossing between zones permitted. Access to certain areas that are normally available to racegoers, such as the Pre Parade Ring and the Winners Enclosure, will be restricted.

As there will be very little wet weather cover in General Admission (Blue Zone) you should treat this as an outdoor event and plan to dress accordingly.

Newmarket say the Blue Zone includes paddock access, but as their map shows, it's about five yards of the terrace at the far end. No access at all to any part of the Millenium Stand, just the small, old Silver Ring stand and the acres of tarmac in front of it.

Yup, got the same email from Newmarket. I do not understand these trials. It could be that it is just to test how well the courses operate a track and trace set of protocols etc. Otherwise, though, to put people where they would not usually go seems odd indeed. Trouble with Newmarket is the Blue Zone could not be set at a worse place!

As for whether these trials go ahead anyway, I am concerned we will see a very last minute call-off for Donny. I wasn't until Sunday when the new infections jumped up by 50%. And then the deputy chief medical officer has said he is 'very concerned'.

However, the government seems to be much more reliant on the figures from the ONS now and last Friday's report painted a much better picture. This Friday's report will be critical.

But here is a thought to leave racing fans with. If a selling plater suddenly improved upon a strong of duck-eggs to win a listed race, we would all distrust the data and the form. Yet, nobody seems to be expressing any concern about the correctness of the most recent new infections figures.

A sudden jump pf 50% in one day, followed by almost the same figure the next day? Could a lab be returning 'false positives'? Accepting that the testing now does very much target areas of concern, the data here seems to have taken a very big leap very suddenly.

Think racecourses are hamstrung by the desire to let people in and at the same time comply with DCMS and Sports Ground Safety Authority rules. As well, the stringent precautions they have to take to keep participants safe and keep racing going are intruding hugely on how they admit spectators.

I've generally supported the Govt approach but the contradictions are now huge. You can go in a pub or on plane but not go in small nos to a racecourse or cricket ground. How a 1,000 people can't go to Trent Bridge to watch a game is unexplainable. There need to be a far more flexible approach to readmitting sports crowds as the difference between a Man Utd game and a Southwell meeting are so obviously different.
By:
The Knight

ThePies,

I actually wrote to the DCMS 6 weeks ago about how 75k at Old Trafford is very different from 300 at Southwell. They did reply and it was quite instructive but it is clear now that racecourses should not have been classified as 'sports stadia'.

They should have been classified on their own and perhaps a more forceful RCA would have achieved that - I'd bet Barry Hearn would have done so.

The other issue is that the DCMS seem convinced that all racegoers are there for a big p*s-up. We know that is the much more the case at weekends and for the big festivals but the difference between most midweek meetings and the bigger ones should have been better represented. It stems from Cheltenham back in March, and Liverpool v A MAdrid about the same time, and the bashing the government got over allowing them to go ahead.

Totally agree about the the really daft inconsistencies now present but that started off in July by allowing indoor pubs to open in front of outdoor places like racetracks and tightly controlled environments like gyms.

This all would have been much easier had a limit of say, 1000, been set as maximum attendees at a track and then built the racecourse track and trace etc from there. Someone was trying to be way too clever by trialling 5000 at Goodwood in early August. It has happened again with these pilots and if they survive the end of this week, perhaps even today, I will be slightly surprised.

I think the premier stand at Newmarket will have badge holders (just guessing). These trials are just theatre in my opinion. Racing should have kept out of them (its just for people like Nick Rust's CV imo).
By:
The Pies
When: 08 Sep 20 12:09
Knight, I think the pilots are ok at the moment as the Govt is reluctant to row back too far and other pilots (footie, rugby union) have been going on now for a few weeks. Whilst these tightly controlled sports events probably don't pose a threat to increased transmission what they might do is falsely signal to some that life is back to normal and they can disregard what went before.

From the reports I've read I get the impression that the increase in cases is coming as much from people flouting the domestic gatherings rules. That said whilst cases are rising it seems hospital admissions and deaths are not yet at worrying levels probably because those who are vulnerable are still taking things very seriously. Whether a continuation of this situation is sustainable is the big question.

Its the vulnerable that should be taking care of themselves if they are worried. Expecting the rest of to endure pointless restrictions needs to stop.

i also got the email from newmarket and was expecting it ,yesterday morning i rang the racecourse because i was having problems downloading my tickets for the 3 day cambridgeshire fixture tickets i boughyt 2 weeks ago when it was announced crowds would be allowed.

anyway the girl said dont worry about it as you will be sent an email telling you of a change of plan as you will not be allowed to go in the areas you thought you would, she explained where i would be allowed to go and told me i would not be allowed in any indoor stands,i asked about what if it rains and she was surprised i asked such a question and replied you will probably get wet,she then explained there was a small stand by the garden enclosure that has a roof on it,{i did point out the garden enclosure was on the july course }as it happens i often watch the racing from that stand as i find its a good view and quieter, however after reading the email i may decide not to bother going and request a refund,i do have a cancellation option on the hotel.its pathetic the over reaction racing is showing and if they start losing people like me 200 plus days a year the sport will be in trouble,as somebody already stated barry hearn would not have stood for this nonsense.
