I only read this today and saw the graphic halfway down the article. If you click on the graphic of the course layout for this trial, it will expand to full screen size.

https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/the-risk-of-covid-is-too-great-mayor-slams-st-leger-festival-pilot/448325

At which point you can see the areas available to the paying customers, and the ticket prices they are asked to pay. I'm amazed that anybody would be willing to pay that much to spend three hours in a confined area, watching the racing on a big screen. No stands, no apparent protection from the weather, and £60 to be in the centre of the track on Leger day.

Anorak. If you click on the buy tickets for each day and read through the write-up for each bay you will see that all are under 'canopies' and all will get a seat.

But that surely still isn't enough to make it worthwhile paying the prices asked?

Sad to say but it seems Donny is trying to make sure their expenses for this are covered (understandable) and take some profit on top, which I'm not sure they should be.

As Punts says, the website crashed on Friday when tickets went on sale but that would have been for the demand for Leger day itself which is sold out. All other days have tickets available for all areas.

What I can see happening here, though, is that the Wednesday in particular not attracting anything like the 3.6k allowed. (It would not surprise me if that happened for the Thursday or Friday either when it is 6k).

In those cases, will it still all stand up as a valid trial in the eyes of the government? If it doesn't, shame on Donny for asking so much money for admissions that bear no resemblance to a normal day at a track.

If the latter does happen and they don't get enough takers, I wonder if the prices will be lowered nearer the time so that trial capacity will be reached?

Having seen the plans for Doncaster - with everyone in a zone ( euphemism for pen ), why would anyone expect to have an enjoyable experience ?  One pen is so far past the finishing line that you might as well watch on TV at home.  Only the "corporate" crowd who spend all day in their marquee boozing will consider this normal.

I do not understand what the point is of having a trial that is so unlike a normal raceday?

It could simply be box-ticking but putting people in zones overlooking the Leger start so that they cannot see the finish is just plain daft.

I fear that racing is not pushing its case hard enough with a government that seems to think all racegoers are there for a booze-up.

Barry Hearn managed to obtain a trial for snooker that was close to the norm but racing does not have anyone like him.

But the other thing is that the government are so scared of being slaughtered on social media / press after the bashing they got for allowing Cheltenham in March and also the Liverpool v A Madird match, they are going to be way over the top with racing and football now.

It really is no way to run a country, given that thousands of total idiots are protesting in London right now about 'no vaccine' and 'Cvoid is a hoax'.

Perhaps, though, our society ends up with what it deserves because of its massive anxiety to allow freedom of speech no matter how plain stupid that speech is!

You create conspiracy theorists and rationality goes out the window. Locking people up for months and costing people their jobs for such an quantifiable risk is going to get people angry and they will support any protest they can.

had a look at the layout and your not going to be allowed underneath the grandstand where the whill shops/ bars are and all the fun is, you re stuck in a pen and not allowed to move from that pen to anywhere else, so if you want a decent bet at the curragh on champions day you can forget it and the boomakers who are taking bets in your pen will give you the best odds im sure lol

Alan,

Absolutely crazy, 15 euros in the grandstand (reserved seat) for the Arc Trials at Longchamp on September 13th.

Only 5 euros for general admission and under 18's free.

I'd be interested if anyone who has paid with own money to go into the Lawn or Winning Post areas to why they have. Doesn't appear to be paddock access. I assume you will be able to buy beer at £6 a pint and sandwiches at £7 a pop. Not for me
By:

When: 01 Sep 20 17:12
No, no paddock access except 'big screen', as they told me when I called to enquire last week.

I do not know what is more frightening, the fact the racecourse staff seem to think as long as racegoers have a beer in their hand they will be happy and don't care about access, or the fact the trials on the weekday have the potential to fall flat on their face because of pricing. The costs of these tickets may well prove to be a serious error by Donny.

I keep saying it but if they don't have enough takers for the 'trials' it could set the phased return to the tracks back a few weeks because the trials next week will be thought invalid.

These pilot events should be £10 a pop maximum and the racetrack costs met by ALL the other tracks in the country put together. It benefits all of them sooner rather than later. UK Racing is run by clowns.

It seems like a miserable box ticking exercise.
I imagine anybody who takes advantage of not being able to move around nor see the racing won't be rushing back in a hurry.

But this from a country where Bolton now has the highest covid figures in Greater Manchester ......and will be freed from restrictions at midnight.

doncaster MP Rosie Winterton [ labour ]was one of the leading lights in campaigning on behalf of the racecourse...having announced their success the mayor [ labour ] said that the council should have the final say...Rosie Winterton now says she now supports the council
between then they should visit doncaster town centre on a friday evening where the whole centre is one big night club

On Leger day, there will be 2,500 people allowed into the Abbey Stadium, Cambridge, to watch the  opening League 2 football match of the season. Seating areas and open terraces will be used.

Yesterday evening, the same number were at The Oval to watch a T20 cricket match.

Rather more realistic trials than racing deems apropriate.

I think its calculated on the amount of outside space available and then how many people per sq metre. I was at Ayr a few weeks ago and they were measuring the outside areas ready for the Ayr Gold Cup meeting.
