I backed the runner-up for a small stake at 22.0, 4 minutes or so before the Off.
All of a sudden- it went out to 36.38 in the blink of an eye - with £134 offered at 36.0 I thought - Mulrennan - there goes my bet Then a similar £140 appeared wanting to Back at 40.0 - so, somewhat out of pique, I threw another Fiver on it at 38.0 Watched the race - and nearly started a Tread afterwards asking ... 'Did Mulrennan want to Win that'? - as he seemed to wait until he could not Win before 'riding a finish' ... But, I thought, that would just be perceived as another jockey whinging Thread - and that is not really my style. I got lucky - admittedly - and the 36.0 Layer must now be feeling sore. |

Does anyone know if there has been an official explanation from either a stewards' representative or maybe a representative of the trainer? or dare I say, Mr Nolan himself?
How on earth does a jockey weigh out at one weight and return at a significant enough discrepancy to warrant an objection by the Clerk of the Scales? |

Because he weighs out and in not just for himself, but with his saddle, weight-cloth and weight - and it is not him who saddles the horse. |

The Clerk of the Scales objected to the winner, HORTZADAR, ridden by David Nolan, and trained by David O’Meara on the grounds of the rider weighing in at 9st 6lbs having weighed out at 9st 10lbs. HORTZADAR was disqualified and the placings were revised as follows: 1st REDARNA, 2nd STAR SHIELD, 3rd MAKTHECAT (FR) and 4th ROUSAYAN (IRE). The rider, David O’Meara’s representative, the Social Distancing Officer, the Raceday Assistant and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed. Nolan was suspended for 3 days as he had failed to draw the correct weight. David O’Meara was fined £750 as the cause of the weight loss could not be established.
