Been many times Celtic but the standout day was when ap rode his 3000 th winner backed ray diamond in the first drama all day including ap falling at the last when in front on his 2 nd last ride of the day then winning on his last chance and as ever it bounced down all day don’t know how they raced.

Tried Plumpton January last year and got to London before finding frozen track.
Hope I've not offended you re Uttoxeter. Used to go quite often mid 80s before Northern Racing took over and thought it was a nice rural track but of late racing seems very poor (save Midland national day) and too many of here for the beer crowd. |
|
By:
That’s correct sparrow I know most like goodwood,it’s not for me and I don’t ever intend going again.
|
|
By:
plumpton like stepping back in time...beautiful track and day out
|
|

Not offended at all the pies it suits because of the arc membership deal and I can get the train there which I enjoy doing,to be honest I wouldn’t get my money’s worth out of it ,if I could only use it at Uttoxeter as I don’t really go in the summer and seldom go national day it’s a bit like after the Lord Mayors show ,one day your watching the likes of don cossack and kauto star the next you have the midlands national.i know synchronised once won it.

foxy, as you probably know I don't care much for jump racing but I appreciate that many others do and would never advocate the closure of any course.

the quality of racing never bothers me when I go, as long as its competitive, have had some great days racing at lower grade tracks. places like Kelso and Hexham are cracking days out
|
|
By:
Correct sparrow I wouldn’t enrich your life one iota if a jumps track closed if ou don’t want to watch it put something else on.
|
|
By:
Everyone loves Hexham and Kelso the dealer absolute pleasure to go to either of them
|
|
By:
I think we need a strict rejig rather than binning places off.
If we have to get rid of anything for me its All Weather racing in the summer, bar ladies day or whatever that is obviously needed to stay afloat, the rest of the dross is not necessary. Likewise jumping, unless you are a summer only track. Finish at a certain period maybe after Aintree. In return they could get rid of some of the crap flat stuff at the back of the season ie late October early Nov that is more often than not ran on bottomless ground taken off the card and space created for jumping. |

Dealer, fair point I think my beef is paying relative top dollar for a load of class 5 and 6 races which ARC serves up most of the time. Tend to find Jockey Club courses cheaper and with better racing. That all said I'm still ticking off courses so will have to put up with what I get at most. Not been to Kelso or Hexham, hopefully might be able to combine a visit

Itsmeswaddle....If we have to get rid of anything for me its All Weather racing in the summer,
You do realise that many of us prefer AW racing? |
|
By:
you will love them the pies, I'm working from the Scottish ones down the way, trying to tick off as many as I can. although I have done a few further south.

Slip anchor October Golden horn October Workforce late September Just 3 derby winners of recent years that made their debut late in the season |
|
By:
I hate calling it all weather but if you look at some of the class horses that have ran at some of the tracks, the trainers don't seem to have an issue with it. been plenty good cards and the rest serves a purpose imo even southwell lol
|
|
By:
Surely its got a best time and place in the calendar to be on?
I like the stuff on the AW too. I understand its a different product to when it was first invented...its serious stuff... But can they not consider keeping 99% of their stuff to the winter months rather than 80%? Just purely on the basis to even out all of the racing... And by that I mean demographically help, Ascot and Kempton the same day is a good example, no need. Yes sparrow you will get examples that have ran late into the season and are fantastic....but I stress I do not want anywhere to close but by rejigging the fixtures a little you can financially help courses. |
|
By:
That's right dealer, if it's good enough to run classic winners on then it's good enough for thee and me.

High rise November
Authorised September Shaamit September Kris kin September Derby horse do tend to start late in the season |

I've just read through this thread and nearly spilt my 6 o'clock gin and tonic when reading a poster, whom I usually think of as basically sound , suggesting the closure of 33 racecourses.
Everyone should realise that all racecourses in this country ranging from the sublime (Ascot) to the ridiculous (Yarmouth) are part of the tapestry that makes up the sporting heritage of this country ,not forgetting Wales and Scotland. Many of these unpretentious local courses support a range of small trainers with horses that would not be able to get a run at the bigger courses and thus support both socially and financially their local communities. If the courses went the horses would go as of course would the owners and the livelihoods of many people would be affected. |

may need a JC takeover to survive.
would this be the same JC who are so much in debt that they tried to build over Kempton?? or perhaps the more divine JC?? either way I don't want any of the courses to close - i'm disappointed that I was too young for lewes, stockton, lanark, etc - but I've promised myself that when this lockdown sh!te is over I'm going to support as many as I can as often as I can - exception being bloody music nights!! |

I really hope it isnt these two, I prefer the atmosphere more than York
Thirsk is one of my favourite tracks to visit in the Summer months ... a midweek meeting with relatively few in attendance with the sun shining is perfect for me! - its a lovely little place and you can wander into town for a few drinks after racing - whats not to like |
|
By:
It’s in Yorkshire

Sparrow the only reason newton Abbott wasn’t on will be he forgot it.
|
|
By:
I think we have been lucky to only lose so few racecourses over the past 30 years ,just Folkestone, Hereford and Towcester I think.I'd be expecting that we will see a fair few more in next 10 years

Hi Foxy - yes kept in touch, he had covid-19, in hospital a few days and three weeks course of treatment afterwards, hit him quite hard but he's hopefully through the worst. he had been looking forward to a five track visit here over Easter...

If they stage racing during the partial lock down behind closed doors at AW tracks how will they be able to tell?

it's the fixture list that needs sorting out,god help us when/if we start back will end up with 8/10 fixtures a day before we know it.

Actually I need to add Ayr to my list of 33 to be culled. I kept Perth and Ayr originally but on reflection Scotland doesn’t need two.
