180,000 people a year die from cancer every year in the UK ... not a word on the news(unless its a "celebrity"), or films of distraught NHS staff or 5pm news conferences showing deaths per day on a chart ? Have we stopped selling cigarettes ?
|
|
By:
no but weve stopped punting
|
|
By:
No you haven't. The fund was up last year and it will be next year. Its just a fact of life that working people make rich people richer and horse racing would collapse without punters.. A little sad I know but it just is.

Well Doubled, not only that but it has been made clear that Coronovirus kills more smokers/obese/ and diabetics than any other cohort of people. Are they going to change their lifestyles going forward? I doubt it.

I’ve said it before on this thread.. and will say it again. The people elect the government... if the people decide they have had enough of lockdown, then irrelevant what they speak about at the daily briefings. If the public decide lockdown is not for them, then not a lot that anyone can do about it.

They could taser your arse!!

if it's done properly, behind closed doors and within guidelines, i can't imagine it would be any more dangerous than letting all and sundry continue to walk into the country from some of the worst affected countries in the world. including china.

with or without opening betting shops,if its without you want government to restart racing for punters with accounts

pretty sure new zealand didn't eradicate covid by stopping horse racing.

True honcho.. do you remember the trouble they had when trying to control a few doped up teenagers during the 2010 riots? If they try and keep people locked in for much longer.. they will be setting themselves up for civil unrest and disobedience the like of which we have never seen before imo. Everyone from the minute they are born is dying, cancer, heart attacks, strokes, diseases, virus’s etc. They are an unfortunate part of living on a planet with the make up it has. It would be interesting to have a poll on who is for carrying on and taking the best precautions as possible, or staying locked down. I would predict more than 80% would not vote to stay indoors.

Maybe do the namesake of the winner of 2018 betfair hurdle to all the undesirables British and non-British not adhering to lockdown or refusing to pick fruit whilst on furloughed.

Good luck rallying the revolution, for the past 18 years on here every time the site crashes I've heard talk of the revolution and how we'll show Betfair who's boss as we're all moving to Purple site comes back and we're all back.![]() |

German R rate back down to 0.76 from 1 earlier in the week.
Pretty good news considering the panic and scaremongering going off about maybe reintroducing the full lockdown |

Or perhaps realise that the masses will always outnumber the few. And although it is obviously tragic for any life to be lost to this horrible virus, at what point do the lives of those who are dying through not having their cancer treatment, operations, life saving transplants etc start to matter. The loss of life through deprivation, starvation and mental health issues. As these will without question kill far more than CoVid19 ever does. If they have not already surpassed it....

Duffy... no need for any revolution. Just some common sense and actual scientific based truths to come out from those making the decisions would suffice.

I do remember switch and you may be right. What about the ones in 1991!!
TT any story that can be sensationalised they will do it. The public has a short memory. It will just take in the story of the day and forget all about it the next day let alone scrutinise it for facts. Germany are up and running. |

Germany are up and running. really?

Frightening thing is to allow Germany, US, China a 6 week+ start on our economy
You have to laugh at the way we are dealing with things Today they’ve reported that the biggest killer linked to Covid-19 is Heart disease very closely followed by Obesity. Between 30-40% of cases in each category. Instead of a major clampdown on obesity which obviously will be linked to heart disease cases I would imagine as well We have tv reporting on fast food outlets like KFC and McDonalds reopening and pictures of massive queues blocking street junctions. Even got so called reporters saying how good it was to give people fast food outlets to look forward to ? Nearly choked on my breakfast Just what we need let alone more traffic on the road taking kids out for a trip to the drive through for a happy meal You can’t make it up half the time |
|
By:
Germany are not up and running of course, but even if they were, you're trying to compare a Premier league outfit with a Conference team when it comes to the level they are at when dealing with this whole thing. We are way behind being able to follow them.

My point has been consistent all the way through. They were under prepared for this, got into a mad panic and made decisions without any rational behind them. They are now stuck, as we didn’t go into proper lockdown, and yet enough of one to cripple the economy and mean that whatever the outcome of the virus, the next few years are going to be far far worse.
|

By:
Here’s hoping they can a grip on things.. that this virus can be contained until a successful vaccine is found and life with some form of normality can be seen again soon.

Yes Duffy up and running really. They are getting back to work and the whole re lock down thing is just media scaremongering. In 4-6 weeks they won't be far off full pelt. Racing on fotball on and where will we be? Hopefully not far behind. NHS is flying, looking to catch up on missed operation soon.

Owners and trainers should find out in the next week what races will be staged when the sport resumes following shutdown.
Karl Burke and others have claimed that not knowing the likely programme was hindering their preparation for a resumption. But he and fellow licence-holders were sent an update from the Resumption of Racing group on Thursday night, revealing that courses have this week been invited to submit expressions of interest to stage fixtures. The update stated: "To help trainers plan, during the next week we will be developing a provisional programme for the first seven days of racing following resumption – whatever the resumption date. "We will then subsequently publish the rest of the provisional programme up until the end of June. This will be as close as possible to the original programme for the period, which means we will be looking to stage roughly the same number of races by type, class and distance. "Ahead of this, we will issue a fixture cancellation notice for all fixtures that were originally scheduled to take place during May and June. This simply reflects the fact that we will be publishing a new provisional programme and does not seek to pre-empt or pre-judge any government decisions around lockdown or resumption." No racing has been staged in Britain since March 17 and a return is dependent on getting approval from the government and meeting public health guidelines. The resumption group, made up of representatives from the BHA, the Horsemen’s Group, the Racecourse Association and the Levy Board (HBLB), warned the new programme will offer lower prize-money. "In normal circumstances, racecourses provide approximately half of prize money, but with betting shops, which drive media rights income, closed and no crowds, their contributions will be significantly impacted," it said. "Every effort will be made to keep prize money as high as possible, but reductions below recent levels are inevitable." Details of lost Pattern and Listed events that will be rescheduled, in the second half of May in a best-case scenario, will be shared "at the earliest possible opportunity". To help provide opportunities when jump racing resumes at the beginning of July, winners since the beginning of February will retain their novice status until November 30. Nick Rust: met the sports minister this week Nick Rust: met the sports minister this week Edward Whitaker The update also revealed that BHA’s chair Annamarie Phelps and chief executive Nick Rust met Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston earlier this week to discuss plans for resumption and the wider economic impact of Covid-19 on racing. "The Minister is aware of and supports the work being undertaken for resumption at the earliest safe opportunity," the resumption group said. "The discussion outlined that any restart would be subject to advice of public health authorities and could not apply undue pressure on medical services and available testing. It also considered how continued exercise of racehorses during the lockdown could reduce the time for competition to resume." |

Another sat no racing/rugby/footbal will be v surprised if isnt re-opened before June..........Think Ireland will re-open first and a week later UK.......What amount will be anyones guess i would think while bookies remain closed it will be low but at least something ....
TV rights basically finance racing at the smaller tracks will this be viable w/out tv rights providing significant funds. Lot of small owners suffering ur paying 3 ton a week for a 60 rated nag and the priority will be to stage the group races which impact the race horse breed. Also if there is limited races you will get group horses running in handicaps giving small owner little chance reduced prize money on offer but anything will be welcomed...... |
|
By:
They seem to be concentrating on the higher grade racing when it returns but not good for the average owner and syndicates who are still paying training fees which for the most part wil be lower grade handicappers ...
I prefer watching the better horses but realistically we need to try & cater for all racehorses within the limitations of what will be restricted meetings / a maximum of 12 runners etc ... Could be a big drop in numbers of horses in training sometime soon with the knock on effect to smaller trainers Prize money likely to be even lower Big decisions |
|
By:
Which racecourses will host the big races?. I would think Newmarket RM. The course is ideally located away from large populations many trainers on doorstep vast open spaces in and around the action. July could be used for extra stables gallops etc helping with any social distancing issues.
|
|
By:
You are right Geordie but the sooner we get started the sooner the lower grade horses will get their races. Owners will be less likely to take them out if they see we are up and running. We need 2 and 3yo races asap and I think by end of June we should see a decent programme.
