Boden 11.20 Yankee Blue

Apparently it won at this course last time out at odds on.

I remember going to a trotting meeting just outside Munich about 50 years ago.
All I remember about the day was a horse I backed leading coming round the last bend deliberately stopping to let all the others overtake.

Apparently it had broken into a gallop and was disqualified over the Tannoy.  Never again.

Perfect for cheating on Betfair though.

Ive had to stop watching this even in the background.

Watched a race yesterday where the handicapping was in place.

20m or something.

By the time the race had started one of the back starters was already in line and up with the front, sure enough was infront by the corner, stacked them up and that was it, a bit of a farce.

If you want to follow jockeys, look out for Erik Adielsson and Örjan Kihlström who would be akin to Jamie Spencer and late finishes, but much better at it.

At Åby this evening

R5 Örjan Kihlström won @ 23.35/1 (strong finish)
R6 Erik Adielsson won @ 40.48/1

Örjan Kihlström has some decent chances tonight.

A quality rider at one of the lessor tracks.

If you want a couple of horses to follow, try Attraversiamo and Shocking Superman who may pay their way over the forthcoming months.

A decent meeting at Sovalla with the Eliteloppet in mind. Both the above jockeys have won this evening, Erik twice @ odds of 29.36 and 5.52, the latter was Attraversiamo  (2/2 this year). He could be a bet in the Eliteloppet final ante-post end of the month.

Shocking Superman runs later (8.26) and will be a decent price, he has an EW chance, but he will need to on top of his game to win.

Good morning Guys.

I guess most eyes will be on France and Germany today, but it's Eliteloppet day at Sovalla (Stockholm) Sweden, the biggest trotting weekend festival in Scandinavia. The meeting mainly concerns Swedish runners today as opposed to international runners (including USA) as per normal due to the C-19 virus restrictions on travel, although there are runners from Italy, Finland and Norway in the heats.

The Eliteloppet is the main race, consisting of 16 runners broken down into 2 heats (16.20 and 16.45 UK time) the first 4 going through to the final later in the day (19.30). The race is over the 'sprint' trip (1609 metres/1 mile) so inside draws are a bonus if getting away from the barrier although there will be jostling for lead position early, but with only 8 runners in each heat this is not a typical sized field.

Betfair cover the meeting, but it appears win only (a pity) hopefully they are aware the final is based on qualifying runners in earlier races. I was surprised there was no ante-post odds on here, although trotting this race is on a par with major flat races in Europe.

My previous posts on this thread mentioning jockeys and horses to follow has certainly provided some decent winners, and 2 of the 3 horses have actually reached the heats this afternoon, Attraversiamo and Propulsion via qualifying previous races.

Here is my take on the heats.

Heat 1 (16.20)

An open race where probably 5 of the field has a winnable chance.

The inside runner Vivid Wise As with one of trotting better jockeys, Björn Goop on board will be well fancied after winning the Grand Critérium de Vitesse Nice-Matin in France earlier in the year, but he's inconsistent, has some quick starters in adjacent draws and was disqualified in his last run. I would be a layer at odds if 5/2 or less.

Earl Simon finished runner-up behind Vivid Wise As in France and has won since, but will need a good start to win from draw 8.

My fancy to win this heat is Missile Hill who is ultra-consistent with a 5-2-2 record from his previous 9 races. Won easily last time out and in a good time. I would rather regular jockey Örjan Kihlström and i've no idea why he isn't as he has a ride in the 2nd heat.

Heat 2 (16.45)

A very open race where none of the field can be discounted.

Again the inside runner Elian Web will be well fancied and this one could lead as he has early speed from the barrier, but if he's headed before the bend his chance could be gone and there are a couple of strong finishers in this heat anyway. As with the previous heat i would be a layer at odds of 5/2 or below.

My fancy, not only for the heat but the final as well is Attraversiamo who is 2/2 since i put him up as one to follow (won at odds of 5.5 last time out). Eric Adielsson is one of the two jockeys i mentioned to follow. He won impressively last time out coming from off the pace in the straight and i feel he's way over priced around 8 on here. Winner of the Swedish Trotting Derby he has an overall record of 14 wins from 20 races.

Propulsion, my other horse (and jockey) to follow runs in this heat is far more experienced and running well although he tends to race over further these days. Not without a chance at similar odds to Attraversiamo and was actually runner up in the 2017 and 2018 Eliteloppet finals.

Final (19.30)

Attraversiamo (assuming he makes the final) irrespective of the draw.

BSP 2.53 was way too short, he's not the horse he was and not the first time he's galloped. The two i mentioned finished 1 and 2, although i expected the other way around.

Both suggested lays were beaten and all 4 of my mentioned selections are in the final.

Earl Simon has the plum draw in 1, Mission Hill in 2 and Attraversiamo (my main fancy) the coffin box in 8 where he must surely be double figure odds, but if he's in contention in the final straight he has the finishing pace to win.

Revised draw for the Eliteloppet final.

1. Racing Mange
2. Earl Simon
3. Cokstile
4. Missile Hill
5. Sorbet
6. Propulsion
7. Milliondollarrhyme
8. Attraversiamo

One of the most open Eliteloppet finals in recent years with Earl Simon the expected favourite around 5/2. I would love to see Attraversiamo win, he's a horse i really like, but the draw is an issue and he will be better next year (inexperience). His odds reflect that, currently 16.2.

Propulsion will not be far away, but in any event i'm not sure if Betfair even know the final is at 19.30 (UK time).

Thanks Kristin.

A good race, only a decent atmosphere was lacking (limited crowd due to C-19) it really is a big deal in Sweden. The nearest i can describe the race in a normal year is a White City Greyhound final.

I mentioned 3 horses to follow early on this thread and two reached the final with Propulsion given another mention today. A worthy winner after 2 runner-up positions in this race in 2017 and 2018 he looked the best horse in the finishing straight, but as so often in these one circuit 'sprints' you also need a touch of luck.

Attraversiamo ran very well from the 8 draw (BSP 38) but finished his race off strongly (couldn't get a clear run) to be a close up 3rd (no place betting on here). He could return to the Eliteloppet next year a better horse, but he will not be 37/1 then. Irrespective of this he can win a decent race in 2020.
