The virus is in its ascendancy; a near shutdown in movement of people in Italy; schools and colleges closed and outdoor gatherings of more than 500 banned in Ireland; football programme for the foreseeable future; travel ban of foreigners coming into the USA; etc.

Yet this horse meeting in Uttoxeter is taking place without restriction. Wat an irresponsible actions by the people involved - what afarce!

Government should have taken action instead of leaving it to the authorities of individual sports to govern themselves.

The Government have taken action... to actively encourage the spread amongst the population at large and develop immunity throughout the herd once over 60% has been achieved.  Strange choice of strategy it may prove out to be, but at least they did give you notice to say goodbye to your elderly relatives with an underlying illness. Number of UK deaths doubled in 24 hours..

It's taking off..

Time to lock it down before there's hundred of deaths.

In Italy it's so bad they're lying in tents outside of hospitals.

No way can we spare ambulances etc to attend sporting events ?

"Uttoxeter looks packed today, if those people were worried they wouldn't be there"

I hope nothing untoward or bad come to these racegoers. Otherwise the impact on the NHS and costs to community and families are horrendous.  I hope every individual adopts a semblance of social responsibility, and not inadvertently help spread these potential deadly virus.

My main concern is governments in other countries have taken a more proactive approach as opposed to reactive here by Bojo eg closing of schools; banning gatherings, movement of people, foreigners entering and travel to/from certain countries. Even our former Health Minister was asking the impertinent question why similar drastic actions not taken by Bojo and his government.

It's prudent to be cautious Mr Johnson, and please do not play with people's lives!

Common consensus is that it's more unhealthy to be in a busy pub than outdoors at an event so maybe shut the pubs, that would also reduce the strain on medical services at the weekends

There will be/ARE far, far MORE people rammed into EVERY SUPERMARKET in the UK - at this moment - all in close proximity to each other - than out in the fresh air at Horse Racing meetings.

You're missing the most important aspect in that emergency services are better deployed where it currently matters most.

The health of the nation supersedes any need for sport.

Give it a rest Impossible 123.
Nothing you can do or so will change anything.
All you are doing is spreading gloom and despondency.
I think the Government Medical guys know far more than you, so leave it to them and quit bitching, there's a good lad.

^^
The above is a rash and ill-advice comparison given the possible consequences of the virus and the magnitude of further spread in huge gatherings of people. Horse Racing is only a sport and in this situation or scheme of things a non-essential entity.

Best to be prudent and proactive. Ignorance might be bliss, but could proved deadly (here).

So as well as truth being the first casualty of war, it appears that reason is the first victim of strong emotion.  Plain

"Gloom and Despondency"

Would you accuse the governments of nations closing schools and banning the movement of people and travel? How did they come to these actions?

Commonsense dictates it's best to be prudent regardless of what government do.

I suspect most of the medical services at events are provided by private companies although they could obviously be pressed into national service if needed

I repeat, the Government with all its advisors and medical experts are privy to the pertinent facts.
You putting yourself up as some self-appointed spokesman on behalf of the population, knows zilch.

" I think the Government Medical guys know far more than you, so leave it to them, there's a good lad"

Typical condescending response from someone when the truth hurts. I wonder why Mr Jeremy Hunt - our former Health Minister - and those experts in other countries like Italy, Ireland, America, and some in the EU have taken a more proactive course of action.

For goodness sake horse racing is only a sport of the minority, and a non-essential; football and F1 cancelled, and others too.
