Over the years security has become less and less on racecourses so scenes like today at Haydock will happen where people booze all day.Maybe the marketing fee the bookmakers pay could go towards a bit more security because I don't believe it goes on any marketing.

Haydock Park officials are investigating after a mass brawl broke out among spectators.
About 50 people were involved in the fight before and during the eighth and final race of the day. A woman and toddler were caught up in the disturbance. A spokesman said Haydock took a "zero tolerance position" on fighting and that those involved were "ejected". One man was arrested over a public order offence, Merseyside Police said. Racing has been on high alert over on-track fighting after incidents at Goodwood, Ascot and Hexham in 2018. The spokesman said Haydock is "continuing to work with the police on this matter". Blah, blah, blah. Continuing to work with police on this matter etc. There wasn't a policeman/woman in sight. |

Its strange how racecourses have no qualms about rinsing the public for every last penny, racecards, food, drink, etc, but when it comes to paying for security. ?????? |

Haydock is worse in the summer months when a large proportion of 'racegoers' are ferried in on coaches from Manchester , Liverpool , Leeds and even as far away as Birmingham . Loutish behaviour is commonplace on Saturdays with little or no Security/Police presence yet happily tolerated due to the income from alcohol sales . However , I have never witnessed any serious violence and this incident will probably be dismissed as a one-off and nothing will change .
