We NEED Barry Hearn to take control of racing, this proves it AP Mccoy is right.

We need a classier type of individual going to the races, we need morons dressing up as wheres Wally and Teletubbies. We need more groups of single brain cell males goading and fighting each other and of course we need c unts chucking beer and spitting over the horses in the parade ring!

Slippy, Dulwich eh! Bit more salubrious than Brixton, if you live in the village that is.

Did some of our under-age drinking in the pub there,The Crown And Greyhound think it was.

In those days the Police knew how to police. My local was the Dolphin on Sydenham High St.

until one day a bobby stuck his head round the door, walked over to our table, looked us up

and down bouncing up and down on his heels with his hands behind his back, saying absolutely

nothing. He didn't have to. He turned and left and we never went back until old enough.

There was a pub in Penge, can't remember it's name but it wasn't far from the Police Station.

All the under-age drinkers in the area drank there and the police knew that. There would be a

motorcycle cop on the street at closing time. The landlord would shout 'Time boys and girls

please'! The police didn't interveen and there was no trouble.

As for the drunks at racecourses. Most of them arrive p....d and the racecourse serves them

even if they are falling over. The way the bars are set up, few chairs and tables large open

standing areas means that staff have no way of controlling that. The management's quite happy

with the situation The more booze sold the better. As I've said on other threads they aren't in

the horse racing business they are in the catering business. The courses have no-one else but

themselves to blame for these brawls.

I went to Lingfield park saturday summer meetings last year, punch ups are common, the same with newmarket july course, you have low paid staff, walking around with ghostbusters packs on there back topping you up, you don't even need to queue at the bar,
until someone is killed, and IT WILL HAPPEN, the racecourses will carry on trotting out the same old lines of,working with the police, lessons will be learned, isolated incident, bla bla bla...
The only way to try and stop it is,to ban coaches getting into the car park until an 30mins  before the first race, and you can only drink in the bars, no taking your drinks outside, and if you have to queue for 30mins to get a drink, then don't bother, go outside and watch the racing, you don't know what your missing, thats how it use to be.
Report stu February 17, 2019 10:22 AM GMT

i did not know they were called ghostbusters but yes your right there surely is no real need for them on racecourses and whilst they will not stop the whole problem it would be a start, and yes your right until somebody is killed the same lines will be trotted up.

foxy - I'm sure Haydock and Chester used to be run under the same banner . The difference at Chester is that they pack so many in you couldn't swing a cat or a punch . The first thing I realised yesterday was that Man Utd , Liverpool , Everton , Leeds nor Birmingham were playing .

dambuster - I used to cover the Friday evening meetings @ Newmarket . After the last it was straight to the car park and flee the scene lol . As for someone being killed , it has happened (Racegoer killed at both Newmarket and Newbury back in the 90's)and nothing has changed , just the usual rhetoric .

I live in South East London roggrain and apart from when I get a tube home and arrive at Brixton I could easily go say 6 months without seeing any police on the streets. Surely, especially on busy Saturday meetings/bank holiday meetings the racecourses could stump up for say 6 policemen walking around the track in pairs to keep order. It would hardly cost the tracks much and it would give the public some semblance of security. I stopped going to The July Course because of the gangs of drunks who had little if any interest in the racing. Just there to get hammered and little else.
