Elis- I saw the Big Job in the cinema when it first came out. And Then There Were None is the BEST version of the story by Agatha Christie with the title we're no longer allowed to mention. Just about to watch Batman at 1.00pm. Absolutely brilliant tongue in cheek. Vivid colours & totally exaggerated.

Lots on controversy and differing opinions about the ending Elis when you read all the reviews , this one seems to be most common.....

No Agatha Christie story has ever been made into a better movie than this one. The movie has the altered ending from the book (which I'm told was changed by Christie for the stage version because let's face it. The book's ending would never *ever* work in a dramatized setting, film or stage) and the character of Tony Marston has become a Russian prince to accommodate the casting of Mischa Auer, but apart from that Christie's book has been flawlessly translated right down to the last detail

Had never heard before of the film showing today at 12.40pm Eight O'Clock Walk (1954)

In post-WW2 England, a taxi driver is ostracized by society after he's accused of murdering a school-girl and his untried lawyer must find the real killer to save his client from the hangman.

Just My Luck is a 1957 British sports comedy film directed by John Paddy Carstairs and starring Norman Wisdom, Margaret Rutherford, Jill Dixon and Leslie Phillips.[1]

Plot
Norman Hackett is employed in a jeweller's workshop and is innocently preoccupied with dreaming of meeting the window dresser in the shop across the street from his workplace. He wants to purchase a diamond pendant for her and, after persuasion, gambles a pound on a six-horse accumulator at the Goodwood races. The bookmaker grows concerned when it appears Hackett, after winning on the first five races, could win over £16,000.

this morning  Dry Rot (film)  7.50

Dry Rot is a 1956 British comedy film directed by Maurice Elvey, and starring Ronald Shiner, Brian Rix, Peggy Mount, and Sid James.[1] The screenplay is by John Chapman, adapted from his 1954 Whitehall farce of the same name.[2]

The plot concerns the practice of gambling, which was illegal in the United Kingdom at the time, other than at racecourses.

Plot
Three dodgy bookies, Alf Tubbe, Flash Harry, and Fred Phipps plan to rig a horse race by kidnapping the fancied horse and its French jockey. They stay at a country house hotel near the racecourse, run by Colonel and Mrs Wagstaff, where they conceal the horse Sweet Lavender (and later the jockey) in a hidden cellar. They substitute Fred for the real jockey, expecting him to lose, but this plan backfires when he wins. A subplot sees the dimwitted Fred fall in love with the hotel chambermaid Beth. A final chase scene has the main characters on a fire engine being pursued by the police.

Not talking pictures but on Legend extra tonight 9.00, virgin 171, sky 317.
Soldier Blue 1970.
Saw at flicks when i was 16, wasn't prepared for the viciousness and brutality and haven't seen it since.
If this is the original uncut version expect i'll be watching through my fingers, might even turn over for The Shining on BBC4 for some light entertainment. If you have never seen it the middle part will lull you into a false sense, as you look at the stunning scenery and Candice Bergens generous figure but the ending is stomach churning.

im watching Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense now on TPICS, dont remember this series from the 80s, but i defo recall hammer house of horrors series and a superb THRILLER FROM EARLY 80S ,        )
Hammer House of Horror

Hammer House of Horror is a British horror anthology television series produced in Britain in 1980. Created by Hammer Films in association with Cinema Arts International and ITC Entertainment, it consists of 13 hour-long episodes, originally broadcast on ITV.

Each self-contained episode features a different kind of horror. These vary from witches, werewolves and ghosts to devil-worship and voodoo, but also include non-supernatural horror themes such as cannibalism, confinement and serial killers. In 2003 Channel 4 placed Hammer House of Horror at No. 50 in its "100 Scariest Moments" show. The clip shown was the children's party scene in "The House That Bled to Death".[1]
".       THRILLER  is a British television series, originally broadcast in the UK from 1973 to 1976.[1] It is an anthology series: each episode has a self-contained story and its own cast.[2] As the title suggests, each story is a thriller of some variety, from tales of the supernatural to down-to-earth whodunits.[3]

Thought this clip might be best suited to this thread , sad but interesting Memory Book covering 30 British actor/actresses that have died in 2024 to date , each person is given around 30 secs each with a narrative covering main parts of their career and personal life.

Worth 15 mins of your time , sad but nostalgic.

BBC2 12.20 Strangers on a Train.

If you haven't seen this before or even not for a long time, this is well worth watching before the racing starts. One of the lesser known films from Alfred Hitchcock but probably one of his best, a brilliant film noir in B/W from 1951. The star of the film Robert Walker who plays Bruno the psycho unfortunately died within a year of the film being released otherwise surely be would have gone on to be one of the greatest actors of all time, this is Hitchcock at his best imo. Starts in 35 mins.
