I don’t want any help or advice from anyone I’m just paper trading this for 7 days and will fill the results in at the end of each day. Just watch me look silly. Surely that’s not too much to ask ?
In the summer of 1971 I did this system for the stakes below and gradually increased it to £100 a point as it started to win consistently. Probably just got a very lucky period, although it did come unstuck a couple of times at £3,100 a pop. I was lucky enough to quit when I was well ahead (took my wife’s advice/threat’s seriously).
I used to drive to work in a brand new 1972 Rover 3500 Automatic in Mexico Brown (cost £2,250) and with £3,500 cash in two wallets. My wages were £40 a week.

Certainly was a double whammy today. When I did it in the early 70’s there was no mobiles, computers or Exchanges. If you wanted a horse to lose in them days it would have to be doped and you would have to have been connected to bookmakers in some way to make money.

@posy assume you're backing 'unnamed favourite' rather than trying to identify favourite ?
Yes, 'unnamed favourite', I’m only paper trading it for fun and have no intention of doing it for real money. I did it in the early 70’s before the Exchanges and mobile phones. Used betting shops and had accounts with independent bookies. Too long a story to explain everything, especially how I was betting in 100’s. I go back before betting shops when it was ‘bookies runners’ which was illegal.
This is an example of what I would write on a betting slip in a shop but if I was staying in the shop I would put the bets on individually as required. Bookies were completely different in those days.
Stop at a Winner If jt or co Fav lowest race card number applies.
What would I do without you two keeping an eye on me ?

Having 3 losing meetings in one week I don’t remember that happening back in the day.
Only £218.91 down on the week after those 3 lost £930 ain’t too bad.
Andrew,Might break even by Friday – fingers crossed.Having 3 losing meetings in one week I don’t remember that happening back in the day.Only £218.91 down on the week after those 3 lost £930 ain’t too bad.
Including your Results, that means there have been 8 meetings between 6th-19th Sept, that have not had a fav winner (first 5 Races), for a loss of £2480 across 14 days. You aren't picking up enough on the winners to cover those losses.
6th Sept is as far back as the BBC Site goes, and I can't be bothered to check back any further on any other Site, but it doesn't look promising.
"Having 3 losing meetings in one week I don’t remember that happening back in the day."Happy - You started 14th Sept, so I did a very quick check for the preceding 8 days on the BBC ResultsPage which just shows the Race Winners :-https://www.bbc.co
Thanks for taking the time doing that, it’s an eye opener for me. (forgive the pun). It just confirms my gut feeling that being able to Lay horses has had an impact on results.
When I did it back then there were only 2 or 3 meetings a day and I would avoid meetings where there were big fields because big price Favs are too risky to rely on. The other type of meeting I avoided was small fields where there were 2 or 3 odds on Favs, a 4/7 in the 4th is a waste of time and money.
What got me thinking back then was looking at the previous days results in the paper and trying to find the common denominator or what have all those Winners got in common. It wasn’t the Trainer, Jockey or race distance.
The answer was nothing really, except at every meeting there was at least one that had the word FAV after it’s name. Then I did a check like you did and it seemed too good to be true.
So the next day there were two meetings and I decided I would give it a try by doubling up starting with a tenner. Can’t remember the two meetings but the start would have been 2.00 and 2.15 so £10 on both Favs and both got beaten.
Then it was £20 on the 2.30 and it won at 5/2 – no more bets at that meeting.
Then £20 on the 2.45 it lost so £40 on the 3.15 and it came in at 11/4 no more bets at that meeting
I’d made £120 on the day.
To be continued …….
Mice-elf and-eyeThanks for taking the time doing that, it’s an eye opener for me. (forgive the pun). It just confirms my gut feeling that being able to Lay horses has had an impact on results. When I did it back then there were only 2 or 3 meetings
I won’t post any more results on this thread after Friday, instead if you cut & paste the meetings below into “Word” you can fill in the results yourselves with your own Do’s & Don’ts list and maybe different stakes.
This is just an example you could make your own list before Saturday and maybe share it. :-
1. No Irish meetings. 2. Ignore meetings where 2 of the first 5 Favs are likely to be 4/1 or bigger. 3. Ignore meetings where 2 of the first 5 Favs are likely to be Odds on. 4. Stipulate whether in the case of jt or co Favs race card number is highest or lowest for the selection. 5. First 4 races only – Stake = £20, £40, £80 & £160 = £300 6. ………..

I concur. And as your all aware some Lay betters / traders use this information as part of their strategy. A fine example today, with only two favourites winning out of seven races at Yarmouth, and similarly the preceding two days !!!

September and the start of Autumn probably not the best time to begin this system as horses start to go in their coat and fields get bigger as trainers are desperate to get runs into horses who have been kept away from the racecourse due to firm ground. I think the ideal time to have run this would have been between May and August.

Your reasoning would certainly indicate why there are more false favourites at the moment.

What posy stated makes sense, form is generally more reliable in the summer months June-August and one week is far too short to test any system anyway.
I have to be honest i'm not sure there is viable system that will make it pay over the long term, and in yours, you are relying on bookmakers pricing and they don't always get it right.
I think today is a typical example in the Ayr Gold Cup with Son Of Rest. I appreciate it's a large liability to return your £364.02 loss to O, but it's completely under-priced (it will probably hose up now i've stated that).
Good luck.

I’m not suggesting anyone do it as it is but copy & paste next weeks template that I’ve put up into Word.
See 20 Sep 18 14:12 post.
Then tweek and publish it with their own list of variations at the top of the page on their own thread.
Would be interesting if a couple done it, if only for comparison.
And something better to do other than gambling.

I didn’t bet on anything on this thread it was just an exercise.
Read what I wrote on my first post and in the early 70’s today’s profit at £100 a point would have been £6,212.80. Putting that kind of money into prospective a new Range Rover cost £2,500.
If you don’t believe me try paper trading it yourself using the template above. Instead of 5 races take a risk and double up for 4 and maybe be a little more selective with your choice of race.
With a bit luck you can build up your stakes and bet in hundreds like I did. Today's results, although exceptional, prove it can be done. I know because I did it.
Ayr should have been :-
Ayr 4th Race Won 9/2 Won £290.00 Not Ayr 1st race 5/6 Won £8.33
Daily Profit = £621.28

Elder, no it didn't, but a 5/1 became a 5/2 lay so any losses would have at least been reduced. I didn't fancy it at all (even for a first 3 place) and thought it was a false favourite.
I did state it was well handicapped and would love the ground, but i simply called it wrong.
In mitigation i didn't lay it and backed the winner at 40/44 + the place at 5.2 if you look at my lay thread

I have to confess i was very lucky with the winner.
I noticed a AYR GC thread with selections and took about 3-4 minutes looking through a few outsiders before posting mine. If the thread hadn't been up, i wouldn't have back it.
