Opening Balance: £674.72 (£325.28 loss)

Saturday 18th August

It's a tough days racing and Saturday's aren't always days I like, but I've gone for 4 value selections today which I feel may be overpriced.

3.00 Newbury - Squats - £10 Win @ 9.6 - £20 5 Horses to Place @ 2.10

The Haggas horses have been a bit in and out lately but Squats is a well handicapped horse on his best form and won this race last year off 95. Today he is off 87 and in his last two races he has run better than his finishing position suggests and he was poorly drawn 2 starts ago. He has always been used as a lead horse at home, but with 7f his most suitable trip on ground on the show side of good, I think he has plenty going for him and going over last years race, I think that was stronger than this years. At just under 9/1 and even money in the 5 place, I feel he is value and with Georgia Cox on board who knows him well, I think he is worth a small bet today.

3.15 Ripon - Shanghai Glory / Brian The Snail - £5 Win on each @ 13.0 and 40.0 and £10 5 Place on each @ 2.74 & 5.6

I'm taking two stabs at this and for me Shanghai Glory is a horse who is promising to win a big handicap. 3rd in a valuable Epsom sprint earlier in the season, he ran well in this last side when having the wrong side of the draw. For me all the pace is low this year and therefore he might be on the right side this time. His second to Sea Fox last time reads well and I think he'll run a big race.
With ease in the ground, I think Brian The Snail is very much a large price and value for a small bet. He didn't get any luck in running in the Wokingham and was staying on nicely into 13th only beaten 6L and having run over 7f which is too far for him last time, he reverts to 6f on easy ground. He is drawn high which isn't ideal, but at big odds I couldn't let him run loose as off 98 he is definitely hanidcapped to win a nice handicap before long.

3.35 Newbury - Librisa Breeze - £25 Each Way @ 4.3 (win) and 1.7 (place)

Having watched the first at Newbury the ground doesn't look soft but the top is coming off and it looks on the slow side of good to me. This horse has been running well in 6f Group 1's and ran on strongly into 4th in a 6.5f Group 1 in France last time. Returning to 7f today, he should get the decent pace he needs from Dream Of Dreams and Yafta and I think he has a bit more class than Gustav Klimt. I can't see him out the first three and I'm happy to back him accordingly.

All the best

Don't want to be toxic but I think £5/10 stakes are better with a starting bank of a bag.

GL dom, for me it's good to see selections based on form and logic rather than gossip, win or lose.

That's why Georgia doesn't deserve the abuse, Genius ride, kept him out of trouble and when the field were waiting for someone to kick, she stole it. Take a bow Georgia.

Stakes should have been £27.50 WIN on each selection. No wastage of stakes, with every winner counting.

Still a £23 profit on the day, which I'll take after yesterday, a step slightly in the right direction.

If you fancy horses to win back them to win. If you aren’t confident just don’t tip them, don’t mess about with place bets.

£27.50 is too aggressive imo (unless he's backing odds on shots or has a massive edge - which is not yet proven)
