Isn't this old news?

Any online bettor (i.e. you) can help by complaining to the ICO about a bookmaker who uses ‘iesnare’: The ICO has said they will take further action if this happens.

I complained to the ICO and they didn't even acknowledge the complaint.

I believe this is a recent piece of news dave.

Were you successful in removing it from your device?


Removing files does not stop it being placed on your computer again. However, if you follow the instructions correctly, it will not be able to be placed on your device at a later date. My current device is 18 months old and as soon as I used it to access Betfair, iesnare was placed on my computer. Checked again this morning and iesnare is absent since I followed the info on removing it permanently.

It makes you wonder what Government institutions are using this freely available data courtesy of bookmakers? Facebook, Twitter, linkedin, iesnare etc are all avenues designed to gather as much info about you and your device as is possible.

It's dated May 2016 and nothing substantive has been done about it since.

I block Flash, very rarely bet with books but that isn't the point.  It is obviously an unauthorised use of Flash software, a hack in other words.

Indeed Dave. Unlawful it is. Illegal it is not. If you have not been informed by the bookmaker that they are going to install it on your PC, then it becomes illegal.

Wouldn't blocking it act as a signal to the bookmaker to restrict or close your account? So you're back to square one.

No. They block your account with the use of it because your activity is open. Arbers have no chance if it is on their device.

Yes. So if you block it, it signals that you're trying to disguise the fact that you're arbing.

How to check if iesnare is installed on your machine

Type in 'mpsnare' in the Search window.

If iesnare has been used on your machine you'll find one or more of the following folders:

#mpsnare.iesnare.com
#ci-mpsnare.iovation.com
mpsnare.iesnare.com
ci-mpsnare.iovation.com
--------------

If nothing/blank returned - then you are, presumably, clear.

I only use Betfair - never  go on Bookies sites = NO sign of iesnare (doing as above)
