only using 1 ride as a sample is unfair, but the ride on Order of st george at ascot last year was reminiscent of starkey on dancing brave

Chav,
I totally agree about Frankie, i prefer him over Ryan, but i wouldn't have any qualms about backing RM on the right horse. De Sousa is a good jockey (I rarely lay his rides) but not a great one and his overall record in the big races is poor. Pressure of a big job maybe, and he didn't last long with Godolphin. He's a hungry, dedicated jockey and everything he rides is generally ridden well, even though he makes mistakes as all jockeys do. Ryan Moore has won just about everything, is very wealthy and i totally understand he's lost some of the motivation he once had, many sports stars do. He's also a dedicated family man and even turned down the top jockey with AOB once as he didn't want to relocate to Ireland. He was held in such esteem by AOB/Coolmore they had an agreement that he would ride in UK whilst Joseph was the chosen one. Coolmore do not employ poor jockeys, they never have, it's not in their interests to and RM is not a poor jockey. Many think every Coolmore/AOB runner with RM on top has a God given right to win, it's ridiculous. Daniel Roosevelt is a typical example, it wasn't a bad ride, it's simply a slow horse who's running over the wrong trip. What i find amusing is pocket talkers continually sl*gging RM off, yet continue to back him, only to follow the crowd like lemmings when he loses. Surely if you think he's a muppet, then lay his rides. |

spencer would be the biggest conundrum, because hes undoubtedly a top class jockey when he wants to be.if you see him ride from the front he never gets beaten, its just the other 99.5 % of his rides that are the problem.

I agree again.
JP was the dogs 'b*****ks back in time, Irish and UK champion jockey, the pin up boy of flat racing, winning everything, Godson of John Magnier and Irish, reasons he was the chosen one at Coolmore. It was too much, too soon, he couldn't handle the pressure, made several high profile mistakes and was consequently given his P45. In later years the acromonious split with Emma didn't do him any favours (what was he thinking ?) and he's not the same jockey today. On a point and shoot job he's fine, and he can ride, but i doubt he will ever win the big ones again. |

What none of us know (unless you work at Coolmore or Godolphin) is what restrictions are placed on the jockeys who get retainers which explains why some jockeys get shown the door quite quickly. Doyle has moved from Juddmonte where he did well to Godolphin where he only got a few good rides and is now riding very well for William Haggas and others. SDS had a good year with Godolphin but seems happier back as a freelance. Hanagan went to Hamdan but was soon back with Fahey etc. etc. Not all about ability, more about the restrictions I suspect. Meanwhile Coolmore have given Ryan leave to ride a favourite for Sir Michael today for the first time in ages.

Sageform,
Meanwhile Coolmore have given Ryan leave to ride a favourite for Sir Michael today for the first time in ages. RM has ridden Crystal Ocean several times including the last twice, in fact he won on a Coolmore/AOM runner the same day last month ![]() |

The old pocket talking chestnut appears again. Always a sign that someone has nothing very useful to add other than a general swipe. How does anyone know what someone else has backed and it doesn't matter anyway unless you are suggesting that any horse that you back can never be given a bad ride.
Even if you don't rate Moore you are not going to lay all his mounts. What a stupid suggestion. It is impossible to know which ones he is going to mess up on but it will be a decent number. |

Not in the same league as de sousa

By:
Andrew, but Coolmore didn't have 2 runners opposing Crystal Ocean on those occasions. Ryan often rides the Stoute horses if Coolmore don't have runners but not so often when they do.

Sageform,
OK i see what you meant now. Apologies ![]() Fozzybear, Parts of your post are erroneous. Jamie Spencer didn't get the top jockey job simply due to 'godson' affiliation. He was the Golden boy of racing at the time, the Beckham of the turf for want of a better description. He was a very good jockey and won his first classic aged just 17. Not only did he win the champion apparentice jockey, but both the Irish and UK Jockey championships, the latter twice. This was in the days of Fallon et all. As I stated the job was too much for him, he was young, and couldn't handle the pressure. Personal issues in his life have also affected him, but he has a good CV and ridden over 2000 winners. The reason SdS would not get the Coolmore stable jockey is because they only use Irish in that position. If he had been born in Dublin, i still doubt he would get the job. SdS is good and happy what he does, travelling up and down the country in search of numerical winners. His stint at Godolphin wasn't successful. As for 'Yes' men, that's part of the game, even going back to Vincent O'Brien and Lester Piggott. |

Fozzy,
Correct, i just checked on Wiki. I must have been thinking of JS Coolmore policy was always to have an Irishman as stable jockey, but that's obviously not applicable today. I got it wrong, so apologies. |

Surely even he wont get Crystal beaten

Much as I would like to see Frankie or Buick win the Ascot top jockey title, Ryan will probably still get it with Crystal Ocean and Thomas Hobson at short prices plus a few others to get some places. He is behind Frankie on seconds and thirds though so needs 5 wins in total.
On the subject of Spencer, Mr Neilson said that he is only behind Dettori on Moore for Royal Ascot wins of current riders which is why he booked Jamie yesterday. Quite funny that Jamie said he spent the first 6 furlongs working out how much he had in hand when the owner told him the horse was capable of 110-115 horse but rated 88. I did back it and thought it must be lame at halfway as it was so far back. |

He admitted that his maths were not good which is why it took him 6 furlongs

I'd like to see the AOB boys show Moore the way to ride their horses.

Has a jockey cam ever been fitted to Moore? I cannot remember one way or another. If not, it would be interesting if so.

Shame Moore beats every horse on his side after a tardy start on Van Beethoven, but did not reckon the presence of those on the far side though. I think Moore certainly needs to sharpen up on his peripheral vision in the future.

Another shortie for Moore. Let's hope he does a better job at steering this one than Sir Dancealot in the Stewards Cup last season.

How far back was the **** - then he runs it up the back of the only seriously weakening horse(how the hell didn't he see that?) Incompetent beyond belief - a 20lb claimer would ride better than that.

If he was a foreign rider he’d be crucified by our pundits. As it’s Ryan they’ll call it unlucky in running..

I’m waiting for the ‘unlucky’ and ‘it’s the horses not the jockeys’ comments....
