yes RUK might struggle to retain a good few of their courses which could have a big effect on their business plan.incidentally does anyone know why the rights to the irish racing are sold en bloc instead of the courses negotiating individually.

By:
Perhaps that question should be directed at the Board Members of the IHRB - Irish Horse Racing Board.
No doubt your enquiry will be bounced - as they could be too busy with the envelopes. |

As I understand it, the Irish rights are owned by SIS until 2023 and they have done the deal with RUK. AIR (assoc of Irish racecourses) had a possible veto but voted in favour as the cash was attractive. HRI also have an input to media rights deal as they receive 15% (?) of all cash, said to be upwards of €40m per annum-this seems a massive figure and allows a largely unaccountable body (individual racecourses) to do as it pleases with the cash (no prizemoney contributions, for example)?
One of the points made in favour of the change from ATR to RUK was the possibility of a new sub from ATR-this is clearly not happening now with move to SKY. Question: does it matter one iota if Irish racing loses its audience in Ireland as long as the tracks are rewarded. The game is funded from Government coffers mostly regardless of the nonsense spoken about punters funding the Irish game. Bookmakers pay 1% tax but this does not fund the game as the tax goes to general exchequer funds. |

I don't see why anyone should be paying extra for this channel, SKY or Virgin
Just as well nobody will be paying extra then innit? |
By:
surely SKY will go all out to get ascot....be surprised if they don't get it
By:
Will the presenters be changed or are they just putting the Sky badge on ATR?

There was a story in the Post a couple of days ago: all remaining British RUK courses except Bangor, Chester and Ascot have re-signed to RUK. Only Ascot still hasn't made a decision.

I haven't got RUK but I occasionally watch Bf LV from their tracks. I was trying to follow Altior's race at Sandown on Sat and was totally distracted when they split the screen to show some minor flat race from Haydock. The picture was much better from the latter course and totally ruined the Sandown race. God knows how they will manage with the Irish stuff added.
By:
Three way split screen maybe?
By:
the racing will interfere with the adverts on sky racing
By:
Are there adverts on RUK ?
By:
occasionally and of course the paid-for interviews with bookie reps
By:
What is the worst is whenever the evening Sky/ATR joint venture is being televised "The Winning Post", then no shows are available until the ads have been shown. I imagine Sky might be using that stroke in the future! Good luck Salmon.

Why don't Sky just have a Sky Adverts channel and leave the rest alone?
By:
^ Joking, right? ^

You have adverts for the whole of a footie game, they have got brighter & flashier as times gone on, its starting to bug me tbh, ATR has so many adverts breaks in an hour its ridiculous, the Sky channel will be no different.

i dont understand anyone paying £25 to RUK, sky sports is £23 odd, bookies offer free viewing if you have a bet on a certain race and betfair sportsbook is 50p min bet to watch so why £25, its crazy what some people will pay, im on virgin at the moment but the v6 box is **** and some channels appear on apps which you cant record or pause, going back to sky when contract runs out in august, they are defo the best out of the two

Spot on lordy. The world is moving online anyway. Soon it will be rare for anyone to have a tv in their home. We'll all just have 42" pc screens/laptops/tablets etc..

Can you get Sky on a box these days? Can't have one of those dishes on my flat but I agree Virgin are useless.

Salmon, have you looked at NOW tv?
If not, take a look here. It may/may not be what you're looking for. https://www.nowtv.com/ |

How does £33.98 a month compete with a Sky Sports subscription?
By:
I've no idea.
The daily/weekly/monthly passes probably aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm sure there are people out there that it suits |

By:
Also have the entertainment bundle and sky sports but also the film channels in two rooms for £50 a month, only downside 18 month contract which seems the norm now, negotiated yesterday.

I'm old,and have been with Sky over 30 years so every year I ring up and get 50% reduction-paying £42 this year.

The Yanks know how to do racing TV.
I subscribe to RTN. $15 per month and no term conditions.ie. you can renew or not each month. After logging in there is a menu listing every race track running and so you can watch whatever one you want. You get the race track's live feed, most of them in HD.(Churchill Downs, excluded but that's CD for you). No presenters babbling on ,no ads and thorough viewing of the horses. |
