Does anyone else think the books have the front 2 in this race in the market at the wrong prices? Surely Samcro is priced at evens on hype and potential? Melon was a neck 2nd in the biggest hurdle race of the year to a now duel winner in Buveur D'Air yet is 5-2. What price BD in the race? I would say odds on about 8-11. Anyway I have taken the very generous 5-2 with 365
Samcro is very short for tomorrow, but 8/1 for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next year. If he wins tomorrow his price will tumble, and probably be fav.
I hope Samcro wins and goes for the Champion Hurdle next year. Similarly, I also hope Footpad goes the Champion Chase route to do battle with Altior otherwise it could a walk -in-the-park for Altior (again).

Samcro will win , the top hurdlers are very average at this time ........and Mr Mullins will hoover up the place money with his runners so there will not be a very big loss in the trainers race.

I don't see Melon reproducing his last run - more likely he'll be finishing weakly. Samcro open to quite a bit of improvement at this trip and his previous form is working out quite well. I've backed Supasundae

That's utter tripe. B'Dair is absolutely top class. 3rd in Supreme behind Altior and Min followed by a brilliant unbeaten run including 2 x Champ Hurdle!! Samcro does exude class but the minimum trip and a CH 2nd, and a tough Supasundae makes this difficult to justify Evens. @ the prices agree with OP and Melon looks the value if able to reproduce his best. However, this festival is one too many for a lot of horses and probably a watching brief is best as some unusual results.
P.S Lol. No chance Footpad would have beaten Altior this season. A highly impressive novice this season; but mainly beats Petit Munchoir time after time. Next season will be his acid test.

The natural progression post the Arkle will be the Champion Chase for most victors/participants the following year. But I think post the win of Footpad in the Arkle there were murmurings he'd have the King George as a target with the Gold Cup (GC) a possibility. However, with the triumph of Bellshill in the Punchestown Gold Cup Mullins (and Wylie) do have a horse with merit for the Gold Cup - the old servant Djakadam is regressive - thus the likelihood of Footpad taking the KG or GC route has lessened significantly.
With due respect to Buveur D'Air and his connections I'm hoping Samcro wins too as the Champion Hurdle does need a superstar similar to Altior. I'd also like to see Samcro win with authority, with Melon or Supasundae in 2nd as confirmation.

when you finish laughing charwell could you tell me a good horse altior has beaten over fences ?
Take me a little longer after that line!
11111/111111-11 - is his hurdle and chase form. RPR of 190.
Not just beaten but hammered all comers inc. Min, Cloudy Dream, Potilogue, Fox Norton, B'Dair (hurdles) etc.

Having watched Altior the last three years, I find it absolutely amazing that anyone could even try and knock the horse. Some horses you only have to watch them to know....hes one of them. Forget the whats he beat syndrome.

very decent horse, just unfortunate that his wins are workmanlike rather than exhilarating, unlikely he will get the plaudits he probably deserves because of it

i had forgotten he had beaten fox norton at newbury by 13 lengths clearly a good performance in fact on that run altior would have won last seasons champion chase never mind the arkle, however i dont really think the likes of min ,cloudy dream and as tough as he is politolouge are anything special ,altior if as i am sure most of us would like to see came up against footpad he would find him much better than anything he has raced against over fences so far.

Altior is a better horse over 2m hurdles than Footpad; Altior can also quicken at the business end of every race too. Until Footpad can beat the likes of Fox Norton, Special Tiara, Politologue, Douvan, Min, etc I firmly believe Altior will have the measure of Footpad (convincingly) should they do battle eg in the Tingle Creek before Cheltenham, and Altior will be clear fav, all things being equal. So far, Footpad has run and jumped his (novice) adversaries into submission, his main and sole solid yardstick being Petit Mouchoir.

I suppose if connections knew Samcro would do something he aint done before, then you may have a point. Horse werent under too much pressure at the time, just one of those things that happen in this game unfortunately. The experienced Champion Hurdle runner up did exactly the same.

i didnt take a lot of checking, and no its not worth it its complete and utter bol.ox racing is an entertaining industry we want to see horses take each other on ,regarding the fall it had nothing to do with been a novice against open racing horses.

maxed out the next race is over 2m4f perhaps connections wanted to dip there toes in at 2m with a view to aiming at next seasons champion hurdle, just a thought.

My thought are putting a novice in a champion hurdle is dumb . I'm not changing my opinion. I dont think your'er entitled to an opinion just because you do more posts what an idiot you are.

If any consolation for backers of Samcro Melon fell just a fraction before Samcro, and both were going better than the eventual winner Supasundae; Samcro seemed to be going the better than Melon just prior.

He smashed the 1st and 2nd in last year's Champion Chase by 13 lengths (rec. 5lbs) and 8 lengths respectively as a novice either side of his Arkle win - some will tell you he was unimpressive in last year's Arkle (which he won by 6 lengths) and unconvincing in this year's Champion Chase (which he won by 7 lengths). He has won his 13 races over obstacles by a cumulative total of 181.25 lengths (average winning distance nearly 14 lengths).
Minimum winning distance in last 10 races 4 lengths (would have been further but he was too busy lighting his cigar and laughing at Politologue who has won two Grade 1s this season).
So, anyway, I think Footpad's got a bit to do yet...
My eulogy has probably ensured that he will fall at the first tomorrow.

Impossible to know, the falls occured at the 3rd last, they were both travelling more or less 'side by side' at the time and neither was getting serious, they didn't have to at that stage.

I'm struggling to feel too smug about that winner even though Supasundae was making ground and actually just in front of the other two at the hurdle where they fell. The way Robbie Power was talking after the race it seems they've accepted they should have gone for the Champion H instead of the Stayers. He's still pretty much unexposed over 2m especially if it was a strongly run race
