Good morning Guys and Girls from a beautiful, sunny morning in München.

Many thanks for the positive comments, much appreciated.

A day of positives yesterday, spending time with my daughter at the BMW Welt (basically a large showroom) and museum, then wandering around the wonderful Christmas markets, the latter is something Germans do really well, i never get bored of them. Icing on the cake came in the form of my only Betfair bet Fiddlerontheroof of the day winning, and Bristol City doing the same away to Fulham.

Summary of my Saturday Sandown thoughts.

A mixed day, albeit only covering the 2 grade I's and the opening hurdle with selections that many of us could have made, although to describe them as my nemeiis did (perhaps ais will give an explanation and apologies for another poor day today) was obviously borne out of continuing anger and frustration. He really does have a chip on his shoulder and is against anything and anyone that doesn't make him look good, but enough about him, i find him really boring anyway.

Let's start with a positive, Fiddleontheroof who was very heavily bet on course and although i fancied him to win, the SP was a shock. I backed him at average odds of 2.03 on here and mentioned any odds against was a bet, although i'm not sure i would have said the same at 8/13. His form couldn't really be faulted in the context of a class 3 novice hurdle even though he had only won once from 5 pre race, but his places were good. I stated his previous run where he was an odds on runner up could look good in time, although i didn't expect it to be franked so soon with the winner going in again at Aintree less than an hour before his race (probably a reason for the later support). I didn't even know it was running.

He travelled well from the start, made the running, jumping fluently (in the main) and looked the winner before the 2nd last. Robbie was looking over his shoulder on the run in (12L clear) and eased him down to win very easily. Although there were a lot of unexposed types in the field and therefore difficult to know what he beat i think it will turn out to be an OK race (listed bumper winner was 4th) and he did it the hard way on heavy ground. I was impressed (won in quicker time than the listed winer later on the card) and will be watching out for his next run, although i doubt Colin will be aiming too high at the moment.

As intimated i thought the 2 grade I's were watching rather than serious betting races due to question marks against many of the protagonists. In the Henry VIII Torpillo failed to shine, making several mistakes and was beaten before 2 out, evenually only beating one home over 20L behind the winner The going can't be blamed, but it was a steep rise in class and maybe he will do better in time as he's only a 4 year old.

My suggested lay Nube Negra was runner up and ran better than i expected in the ground, simply beaten by a horse that stayed on well and he can win again over the minimum trip.

I thought the Tingle Creek lacked a little 'je se nais quoi' for this race but it was an exciting finish and to be fair the winner was very resolute. I would have loved Un De Sceaux to have won, and i suspect most non winner punters to feel the same, what a horse he is, beaten a neck approaching 12 years old (winner and runner up twice in this race) one of NH most loved horses of those currently still racing.

My suggested lay Politilogue finished well beaten and to be honest i'm surprised PN runs him over the minimum trip, surely he will step up next time out, he needs further these days. As for Janika (my tentative EW choice) who finished 4th (well backed) although staying on well (and was in contention 2 out) he's another that will be stepping up in trip and there's a decent race in the locker for him. I did suggest that Daryl Jacob had chosen the wrong one, but he never listens to me.

I didn't consider Waiting Patiently pre race, a fast finishing 3rd (who would have won in another 50 metres or so) and he ran very well, also franking the form of Cyrname in the process, as if he needs it. As with Janika i feel he will also step back up in trip.

On a day of good racing, sadly we lost 2 horses, It's Jennifer at Aintree and the very popular Houblon Des Obeaux at Sandown, the latter almost a standing dish in major staying handicaps. RIP.

On to today, some decent racing, albeit i feel a day for backers rather than layers, although i have more time in my hands this afternoon as my daughter wants to chill locally rather than wander in the city centre (jet lag and two busy days contributing to this) so hopefully more later.

In the meantime my Sunday shortie vote goes to Cilaos Emery (2.35 Cork) who is unbeaten in 2 chases and has the Enda Bolger runner to beat (the latter gives away 3lb) but i feel he will and go to better things, although i would want odds against.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all. Happy
