Looks like the  £5.5bn loss in tax revenues outweighs the misery of losing everything on the spin of a roulette wheel

The Government won't lose 5.5 billion though will they? Surely all this money that isn't spent on the machines will be spent elsewhere, creating tax for the Government won't it? It may not be at the same rate etc but it will more than likely be spent in the UK economy, and the recipient will be paying tax on it.

The £30 or less is only a recommendation - it could mean £5. Nevertheless, I think quite a few MPs will be voting in favour of £2, IDS is one of them.

IDS, will propose 2 quid then propose cutting benefits because the riff raff wont need so much money, Wink

The final decision is likely to be £30 since it is the recommendation of the Gambling Commission. The GC is a waste of time hounding small time on course bookmakers whilst not protecting the public from FOB's.To liken these to crack cocaine could not be explained better. In addition it is a perfect avenue for money laundering. It should be no bigger than £5.

A genuine question, please. When did 'freddy' takeover the Tote? I'd a shock today when requesting assistance to deposit and was greeted with an advisor from 'freddy'. I knew I'd closed my account with them after they welched on a free bet.

i'm still in the £20 camp, Govt will be seen to be clamping down (80% cut per spin is acceptable all round) and bookies can live with £20 spins, all done now, bookies won't be seeking bigger exposure on the nags.

Please stop referring to them as 'bookies', it kind of implies that they are persons capable of making a book.

accepted, but the High St Massive were once bookies when I was a nipper, how about mini casino operators? No morals we're Ladbrokes  Corals, Fred Done ya like a kipper, welch on the bills Hills and turned Betfair sour Power.

when I was 1st betting there were lots of small bookies they even wrote your bet out on a raffle tkt, taking odds from the blower service they were bookies but didn't make a book.same lads stood at Cleveland park and it was always a game of chicken as to who priced up 1st and the odds adjusted depending on punters rushing to bet,the 1st one up was todays betfair the rest just followed

Max of £30 per game for roulette and maybe some other casino games such as Blackjack.
Max of £2 per spin slots.

Wouldn't surprise if there was a concession to the bookies such as allowing six FOBT's into each shop.

It was stated that the Levy would be hit. What a load of rubbish, seeing how the Levy is based on profits of onshore, and now offshore horse racing.Racing should be ashamed of itself stating that a £2 max would really hurt the industry.Racing is supposed to look after itself, and not be  reliant on gamblers playing on gaming machines in order to be subsidised.
Carolyn Harris,s letter(Swansea East) to Theresa May makes good reading on this topic.
Regarding the Gambling Comm,s submission,it appears that their research is sadly lacking.
i think there is a lot more going to be aired on this very contentious issue before the ridiculouslylong wait for thde final decision is reached.
It is unacceptable that the Govmt. has avoided reaching a conclusion as to what to do,seeing as the research started in 2015!!!!!!!
I suppose that is the norm in the world of politics.

I'm afraid until one of their loved ones or relatives is a victim of this crack cocaine betting/gaming machine (fobt) the government will be unwilling to act decisively and/or stringently to redress its proliferation.

Personally, anything above £5 max limit is a let down to society and those affected by fobt.

On page 17 of the RP today the ABB says, "Cutting stakes from £100 to £2 would be a disproportionate action and would mean people could bet more on a pub fruit machine, that has no responsible gambling measure in place, than a FOBT."

Either they are talking b0ll0cks - like usual - or this needs updating: http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/PDF/quick-guides/Gaming-machines-in-pubs-quick-guide.pdf

The maximum stake on a pub fruit machine is £1.

Billy Day stood at Cleveland Park. A lovely fella who has just passed away. Always a pleasure to talk with him and do business with him. Tommy Hamilton stood there along with little Joe and his brother, cant remember their surnames now.
The times of the track owned dogs were best. Kalamazoo Hero was a fav of mine along with his litter brother, Rattling Pat. Then there was Asdee Gambler, Miltown Singer, Fish Tank, Egg Cup, Cahernagh Own, Run On Magpie (who used to tear off miles in front but needed an oxygen bottle from the last bend). And in the days of the three day week when they used to race on a Saturday morning i remember one of the slowest dogs on the track, Dawn Assault, winning off the front. It was a black and white thing who always looked as though it was in need of a good wash. Atlantic Flight was a speedy sprinter and won me many a few quid and i always remember a dog called Chame Football who had difficulty putting one leg in front of the other.
Happy days.

you have a  choice when playing, i was addicted to fobts but not now , my max stake was £12 but only seen one person ever bet the max of £100, the best run ive had was early december last year to mid january when i won £1k, lost thousands over the years but got bored of them in the end, slots bore me to death, blackjack isnt 100% fair, you dont know how many decks there are, but in the end you have a  choice whether to play or not but i do beleive around £30 is a fair max stake, you can still do £500 in 10-15 minutes playing £30 a spin

I believe it is about being able to play on a number on roulette to win £500 at odds of 35/1.So as long as the max stake is around £15,then that is possible. Not going exact as that involves pence.Surely that is the lure of the wheel,to be able to win a monkey/spin,and as long as that is still possible, then there shouldn't be too many long faces.
