But the bookmakers still wont take a decent bet, these bookmaker licenses should be revoked on any bookmaker not accepting a reasonable bet to take out a certain amount that matches what the FOBT machines pay out on their jackpots, then there probably wouldnt be any bookmakers left.

The STAKE  issue is being convoluted ,never really been clearly  called ,STAKE UNIT and TOTAL STAKE are being used incorrectly ,there should be further restrictions with some kind of ID System for FOBT Players so further control can be imposed via loss limits and session times to take the sting out of the losing experience and prevent the effects of losses impacting further afield in the community ,it needs contained and managed  in shop .

If the bookies don't get their profits from fbots then they will get them from punters. All these people screaming for a cut to £2 are saying ooh i want a worse deal from the bookies on racing.

there must be plenty of independent on course bookies who would willingly engage in us and them jousts on course, no access to BF ( just put the blockers on the ring that Betfred have in most shops ) make a book, lay it and let the on course market speak. Layers would hedge amongst themselves depending on their views or takeouts. Those who bet in the shops get industry prices as the SP market will have no bearing on prices returned on course. Punters can choose too battle the old enemy on course or take whats given off course. No High St reps on course skewing the SP's by chucking a couple of grand at the same old faces to ensure a reduced SP.

Instead of doing in £200 a spin, they can now do in 10 spins @£20 a pop for the same money.

Come racing.

A reduction to £30 has been recommended by the Gambling Commission, an institution supposedly created to govern and monitor gambling addiction and the behaviour of betting entities.

What a let down the Gambling Commission are!!!!!!

To be fair and accurate the GC are recommending £30 or less, but with some caveats eg tracked play mandatory across certain machines; banning different games to be played in a single session; ending sessions when players reach time and money limits, and a few others.

The aforementioned are all well meaning and good but who'd be doing that? The staff who are single-manning, on just above average pay, etc? The bookies' bosses do not give a hoot and most willing to pay the penalty (if caught) issued by the Gambling Commission (GC) - the ginormous profits generated will easily cover any penalty dished out by the GC.

£30 a spin. Unbelievable Jeff. i bet thats cured gambling addicts across the country in 1 fell swoop. Change of sets of trousers around bookmaker high street boardrooms as they sit in a pool of  p!ss laughing their heads off.
Fobt turnover reduction of diddly squat if any.
Wouldnt be surprised if it increased with all the free advertising.

I was going to point out what impossible has about the GC's recommendations. It's up to the Government now to prpose a figure to Parliament, and I suppose it's not an entire given they will get it through. I agree it's unlikely to be £2 though. Those other measures mentioned will make life more stressful for any staff who actually try to enforce them. I wouldn't bother in their position.

Why this concern over people throwing their money away?

People lose money all the time and fortunes as well through starting businesses that fail.

Then there's the massive amounts lost by ordinary people when they venture into the stock markets.
Who's looking after their interests?

Yet when a few unwashed plebs lose their dole money down the bookies, they all have to be protected from their own actions.

This is the same gambling commission that could not help me when LADBROKES self excluded me when i simply asked them to close the account as they offered nil pence on every bet asked for. They then had the cheek to keep my winnings as self excludees are not allowed to bet. Gambling commission said it is there business, they can do what they want.....and you G.C are about as useless as the other G.C from the only way is Essex....pathetic!

These commissions are set up by MPs to provide jobs for their own kind. There's an army of people working in similar quangos.

They employed 111,000 people in 2009 and spent £46.5 billion, of which £38.4 billion was directly funded by the Government.
Wiki.

They generally mess about doing nothing, or submitting reports that end up in the dustbin or making suggestions that hit the headlines but are rarely acted on.

Toothless and expensive, they're generally regarded as providing jobs for the boys.

All this fuss over FOBT, and what's happened?
Somebody has made a lot of money out of the investigation, that's what's happened.

Bookies want waster junkie halfwits in the shops.
They don't want people studying form and having a chance of winning.
Free coffeee for the toothless feckwits and a diet of cartoon racing and fobts until they are skint.

They are all looking after their own self interests and protecting each other - but if the FOBT figure is set at £30 then I don't think much will change from the current situation.

This subject is highly political/toxic and if that happens then it will just fester and keep coming back to haunt the government. Rest assured one year on from the decision we will all be looking at how much has been lost on the FOBT's compared to the current £1.8 billion a year and the amount of problem gamblers.

The government has so many issues to sort that the levy lost in the grand scheme of things is peanuts.

I,ll ask again we,re led to believe every fobt in every shop  Is been used 16 hrs a day by uncontrolled problem gamblers, yet when discussed on tv its the same bit of video, same faces,
on the day this is announced why arnt the media, those who want them banning out in forves at ,loads of bookies up and down the country talking to so called 100.s of problem amblers who.ve just done their nuts, and back tomorrow and another 100 different shops with another 50,60 different problem gamblers
ive seen 2 or 3 well educated blokes witlh decent jobs crying about doing their brains and the a  few chavy lads losing the house keeping, and its the same circle year after year especialy the middle class ones giving their storys to the papers, why isn't there 100,s and 100,s of them

Will a Claxon go off if the £30 Limit is Breached or if the Punter is playing 2 machines at a Time ?

Or is a member of staff Monitoring the situation ?

On another point how many Criminal Damage charges are brought on the Hundreds of machines that are wrecked each Year ?

The GC can say what they want but it is Parliament not the Government that decides.

There are indications that a number of Tories will vote for an amendment that will force a max stake of £2 for FOBTs.

1sttimeposter - losing your paycheck gambling is one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to a man, I'm surprised you read of even 1 story of a person confessing they've done their wages yet again on the machine, there's a reason you don't read hundreds/thousands of different stories about this happening - people don't want to admit it.

You may be right, but I've done a lot on those machines in my college years and could hardly tell 1 or 2 mates let alone the world and I was 18/19 at the time, then again I've never been one to be big into social media so could be a different story with the Instagram users and all that, just personally I'd find it way too embarrassing to let out.
