They simply want their guaranteed profit. They cannot lose on the machines.
Now a days so many big gambles get landed on the horses. It can be quite volatile for the bookies. Problem is the bookies have gotten so greedy they also want a guarantee profit on the horses as well. So anyone who knows what they're doing simply either get their account banned or restricted to 40p bets. However if I made a new account with a bookie and won 14 days straight on the slots nothing will happen. But if you open a new account and win 3 days on the bounce on the horses. Your account gets closed down or restricted. Are they trying to push the man who likes a horse punt onto the FOBT's? |
|
By:
The bookmakers ideal scenario is every punter playing the FOBTs, virtual nonsense, 49s, maybe throwing in a few bets on mug football markets where they can bet to 150-200 percent. They don't want people who have any chance of snipping away at their profits.
|
|
By:
FOBT is a no a lose business model for bookies come rain or shine, but fobt must not be allowed on any high street premises masquerading as betting shops operating on an ancient betting/gaming legislation and terms and conditions.

Imagine Baldy without the FOBTS LOLOLOLOLOLOL....He's hair would probably grow back and fall out again, the fooking parasite..he's staff are totally clueless, more clueless than all the other bookie staff in the shops
|
|
By:
Baldy would have a raffle every 5 mins in every shop, £50 to enter..
first prize £5.00 lol |

Regarding the staff the only time in my life that I can remember being called a fcuking liar to my face was by a woman working for Betfred
A few years back I was going round the shops putting on some a/post bets the Saturday night before R Ascot and I asked politely for some prices for a couple of races to which I got the usual "we don't have prices for them".So I said you do I've just been to 2 of your shops and got prices to which her reply was "you're a fcucking liar show me the slips".So she rang one of the shops which confirmed what I'd said and told the manager there that she was phoning head office because she'd given out prices on those races. True story it was annoying at the time but not unexpected tbh |

Re The Bet Fred treatment when they closed my on line account via restrictions I tried by phone which can sometimes buy you a few more bets.I have never experienced such abrupt and rude responses. Perhaps he treats his staff like rubbish so they feel able to do likewise to customers.?
|
|
By:
Re my above post I phoned and asked for £100 @ 9/4 as shown on Odds Checker.I knew I had no chance of getting this on line. The bet was accepted the horse drifted but won 7/2.When I phoned to W/d my £450 I was told NO bog was only aval to bets placed on line for this particular race and you are being paid out @ 9/4.This was years ago but sure enough hidden behind the green button Fred said bog "for bets placed on line"not "only" which might have been more helpful.!
|
|
By:
Still not an excuse to treat a customer in that manner though.
I closed my online account of my own accord after baldy reneged on a free bet offer post placement of a bet stipulated in the email. They then kept pestering me with further emails saying I could have the free bet after all, but no doubt would execute a thorough id verification should the free bet result in a win; encountered the same experience with paddies. |

What,s the betting that in the next few days the R/POST will run a story about how someone has won a life changing amount on a multi bet for a couple of quid, no name of the so called winner. It happens every year before a big meeting, just another way that this rag bows to the big boy bookies instead of checking and making sure the story is 100% true.

i know a few people who have told me, they threatened them with the small claims court, they always pay out before anymore bad publicity..But i think thats all too late nowadays

BB Im sure you have joined in such threads before but there is too much racing. Too many poor horses and poor trainers, jockeys and the like trying to eke a living out of £2k pots or even £3.5k (wow) to the winner. So much poor fayre put on severlely diluting the prize money pool. Two meetings a day in midweek and 3 or 4 on a Saturday, with one extra evening gig three times a week in summer. Nothing on a Sunday because its never really taken off her. Who wanted all the dross wall to wall racing, oh thats right, the High St but now they have virtuals, Indian , African and Martian every 5 mins from opening they don't want to even pay for the hellish gutter racing they wanted and forced the BHA to sanction because of it lack of direction and strong leadership. Bring forth the cull on shop staff, stable staff, horses and trainers and then start again with new business model that can be fulfilled by the newly streamlined Racing industry.

Just remember in life nobody but nobody is entitled to an easy ride, its just some are born that way and nobody seems to doubt their entitlement. In fact the majority just accept the status quo and the fact the RP is a bookies mouthpiece and not for punters just shows what a closed shop the industry is. Get Barney on the morning line against the Corals windbag and see who wins the debate ( on any subject from gambling to Iraq and even Trump ) One is a realist, one is a rabid fantasist and liar yet guess who always get the platform to air his **** and with a megaphone?

Haven't bet with Betbald since he didn't pay out on the Accrington Stanley so called fixed game from many years ago Me too, I wouldn't have gave a shoite if they suspended betting on the game like the others, but not them. They took bets right up until kick off and when they copped they then voided them. What was said back then by our Racing Press and pundits.... |
|
By:
The truth is simple. They have morphed into casinos, become complacent at the guaranteed risk free profit - £1000 per machine per week on average ffs - and now the cash cow is about to be slaughtered are cr@pping themselves. Lost the art of bookmaking and have no idea how to recover it.
|
|
By:
if they want to get proper staff who know how to MAKE A BOOK, run a BETTING SHOP and not an AMUSEMENT ARCADE, they will have to pay the wages.
and thats something they've not been doing since FOBT'S came on the scene..Why get somebody who knows what they are doing, when they can pay someone minimum wage who's only job is to open and empty the FOBTS ?...But that looks like changing |
|
By:
I only wanted a tenner ew one tomorrow with Skybet, they offered £1.25, shocking
|
|
By:
should have their bookmaking licence revoked and barred from laying horses and sportsbets, if they want to be a casino operator, fine open a casino or advertise the business as a casino. They have nothing to do with bookmaking and only bring sports betting and bookmaking into disrepute.

Sadly, we are fooked, Post will never say anything about it
|

By:
The Racing Post is sh1t, and because there is no competition it is able to operate with a leader that's clueless and feed solely from the bookies' fobt machines; the paper is not fit for purpose, and neither is its leader!

I'd like to think BM gets a pup at Crayford or Sittingbourne, pays fees for 6 months gets it nicely graded then on the job day gets £60-£20 from 3 online books then tries to punt it on course and gets offered 4/5 or even 4/6 ( for about £150 max ) The dogs aren't dying they're are dead and horseracing is only 2 or three years behind. Sure the festivals and G1 tracks do ok but the rest are struggling to exist let alone entertain or become competitive. Roll on £2 limits and getting rid of the dross. The tracks, the trainers and the horses who wish to operate beyond basement level and indulge in the chicanery the exchange allows.

cant say to much but sad to say its looking very bleak for a lot of staff

Some amount of filthy media propaganda now in circulation about problem gambling and how the crack cocaine FOBTs are not to blame. Absolute scumsters ,should have started the max stake at 20p ,£2 a spin . The twisted media departments want to tell us there are few problem gamblers on fobts whilst pushing the line that they need a high max spin stake and threatening job losses. SHAMELESS SCUM. Goverment should be introducing min age for cat D gaming machines ,and making slot machine type arcades age restricted along with limits on all types of gambling for those under the age of 21. According to the gambling commission return to player (RTP) has to be displayed even for cat d machines ,displayed but does not stipulate where and have never seen it myself . The Gambling Commision have to be replaced ,the stench is overpowering ,and not just on the font issue.

Sorry for the late reply, just got in after my second 13hour shift on the trot ![]() re Hector Macdonald unfortunately I don't know the shop in wood green as I live a few miles away in the wild and windy north east. I did however know Hector as he used to bet on pick 1 on the rails at the Royal Meeting, in those days the courses used to make the governor stand themselves on the pitch and I remember in the last few years he used to go in his wheelchair, it was sad to see and thankfully the rule no longer exists. I also know one of his ex staff who only lasted a few weeks working for him, the lad did a good few quid in when Frankie had his 7 up. talking about how Hectors shops were always buzzing, today when the Schweppes was in running there was only 1 person in my shop, and it was me ![]() |

bookies being restricted to £2 and they are crying like babies now lets hope and pray it comes off they should be lucky most of us me included get restricted anywhere between 10pence and 17pence a bet don't understand what the problem is ! and BM of the scum of a paper should grow a pair and a admit the game is in a worse state than it ever was FACT because of this vermin SIMPLE

Ronnie those are terrible hours, needs must I suppose, I remember my mate was going to take a chance on holding a £10 treble from a punter, you could in those days, thankfully I talked him out of it, of course they all won and it paid a couple of hundred, more than 3 times his wages at the time. Remarkably there's a letter published slating fobts in today's Post I kid you not.

Fobts is a bigger sponsor of Horse Racing in Britain than the high profile rich individuals and companies eg the Sheikhs, Qipco, Qatar, Investec, Sun Alliance, Vodafone and many more; taking money from the sick and deprived to fund the sport of kings for the wealthy.
It can only happen in Britain, and nowhere else not even in Ireland where horse racing is a passion with most! |

time for a root and branch overhaul of the betting industry landscape and the entire structure of the sport of horse racing
big and unpopular decisions need to be made and noses need to be pushed out of joint and it needs to happen now |
|
By:
No doubt many hundreds of High Street shops will close if this does come about but I can't help but think it is a good thing to happen. Like someone said previously, maybe they will start to take bets OTC again although I won't hold my breath.
|
|
By:
they won't slippy
the slots will be the main focus of the FOBT addicts business and they will push virtuals, scratch cards, 49s etc much harder than ever before horse racing punters, dog racing punters, other sports punters = they can all feck off same as now |

Was the man charged with the Birmingham firebomb attack and murder in Paddy Power shop a FOBT player ? They were quick to mention mental health but not heard much if anything about the accused or his motive .Of course it's a live case but should be restrictions in place to protect the vulnerable ,think this is a big fail from the industry ,can't sell a drunk man alcohol but don't see anything in place to prevent someone suffering from mental health problems suffering losses that they can't afford or control . Apparently most compulsive gamblers are suffering from mental health issues but that's one stat you won't see pumped out by the pro FOBT pr machine ,all went quiet on the Vegas mass murder motive as well .
