Used to love it but the year i watched George Washington standing on 3 legs in the muck turned me off a bit.
Dirt races in the wet are dreadful spectacles.

when it was 1 day I enjoyed it more, "breeders cup night" has a better feel to it than "breeders cup weekend" imo also the races were less diluted
also I find its a bit of a turn off going to the same venue(s) all the time
a rotation system like the open golf would be better imo but the politics & money involved has a big say

but not a fan of american racing, the tracks, the lasix , the surface(s) and the tiresome "world championships" p ish that the yanks have given to the event - nothing could be further from the truth.

There was a problem with the California courses all having to have tapeta/polytrack for a while. Keeneland had to go back to dirt to get it. I thought there were problems at Monmouth other than the weather ?

not sure SS re monmouth you could be right, I just remember the diabolical weather & ground conditions
keeneland was incentivised/rewarded with the breeders cup for switching back to dirt

It's the best racing all year ........on a Saturday evening . I like the Classic , but most of their tracks seem to have short straights , much rather have York ,Doncaster ,Newbury .

Wouldn't want a diet of US racing all year round but the Breeders Cup is superb and unmissaable for me. It has the spice of top international competition , the general razzamattazz that they do so well , some really fast talkin' dudes doing the presenting and a sprinkling of highly attractive females in the mix as well . 10.

I enjoy it, the only time that I watch US racing mostly because of the European horses involved. A 6 for me, it would have been 8 if it was drugs free racing.

I hate the tracks over there, small with short run-ins. I much prefer tracks where there is a long run-in and you don't see horses trying to make up ground round the bend. It's all about the break and position in American racing, you can blow your chance at the start just by being slowly away

Whereas here ,the bloob, they crawl through most of the trip ( many runners tossing their heads because they are being excessively
restrained), and then a race breaks out in the last 2 to 2 1/2 furlongs.

It would be a 10 but not knowing the american form so can't really bet on the card, the placepot is the biggest joke a meeting like that and its a minute pool I had 11% of the pool one night what a joke that was.The placepot should be huge, not even promoted or anything totally useless in saying that the dividends pay absolute peanuts yuou very rarely see a decent result..

Saturday is one of the best day's racing of the year. How often do you get decent racing through to past midnight?
Personally, I think that if you do some homework you can give yourself a winning chance even if you don't follow it through the year. I have taken the Americans over the Europeans as I think plenty of ours are going there after a long season. Is anyone quoting odds on the number of European winners?

we'd soon complain if it wasn't shown over here i wouldn't necessarily say the best racing of the year because of the surface but still damned good - 8.5 or up to 9.5 if europe has a few winners

Unless you're an avid follower of American racing, then surely the answer to he question is influenced by the strength of the European challenge, and with that in mind, most years would be worth at least a 7 imo.

would enjoy it more if the uk pundits commentators could talk a bit more about hitting the gates fast, clock in the head, early pace, quarter horses, 26 and change etc, etc, , might have been interesting 20 years ago

I found Durkin a bit much with his habitual 'and DOWN the stretch they come'. Prefer Trevor Denman. He retired but has made a return to Del Mar
so I hope he's doing the Cup. Never forget his 'This is un-be-lieve-able!' for Zenyatta's stretch run.

Regarding Euro's vs US runners. Over the last 16/17 years US runners have won 114 of 118 on the dirt. Euro's 34 of 79 on the turf.
The dirt results are not out of line as very few Euro's have attempted the dirt especially the juvenile races and sprints.
The turf results for Euro's are very strong when you consider that they only represented about a 1/4 of the starters.
However, the Turf (12f) accounts for 12 of the Euro winners ,so the other turf races amount to Euro's 22, US 40.
Still a good strike rate for the Euros but apart from the Turf ignore the US turf runners at your peril!

To get back to the original question: I've downloaded and studied the American version of the form (far more informative than what you'll get from
the Racing Post or ATR) and printed the official programme. I've already spent at least 20 hours in study (great being retired!) and will probably
spend at least 20 more. For me the Breeder's Cup is great watching and betting. Rolling win threes, exacta payouts far superior to here and form
that is relevant. I will be well prepared for Saturday evening. The ingredients for Margaritas are in the fridge and the pizza and natchos will
keep me sustained. Bring it on!

Very interested, as usual. The highest level race after race, what is not to like?
OK the misty eyed memories of yesteryear are always deemed better, but we move on and what we have is now.

Interested to see how the European runners perform but I have no concept of US form so I will be treating the dirt races as I would a race from Finger Lakes or any other minor track-leave it well alone. I did once attend the BC at Santa Anita and I was fortunate that it was the year in which Ravens Pass, Conduit and others won and I made a decent profit. Probably 4 out of 10 on a par with my enthusiasm for Chelmsford tonight.

As with all horse racing the vast majority of punters would have no interest if they couldn't bet , mind you could say exactly the same about Royal Ascot
