Could well be looking at it's future entries. Got blocked twice in it's run on debut sent off 3/1 favourite.

Running in the same race, Capital Fight, what an eyecatcher he was on debut at Glorious Goodwood, meeting with significant trouble in running, completely losing his position before running on strongly for fourth. The second ha won a maiden since, while the fourth won a handicap today off 79.

The moral of the story? Beware late headway monkeys!

They might have made too much use of Capital Flight in that valuable maiden last time at York, so maybe he'll fare better if ridden with more restraint.

But hey, one's by Dubawi and trained Gosden, while the other is by Zoffany and trained by Cole, nuff said!

And the fact Emaraaty is by Dubawi, out of top class racemare and trained by Gosden, mean before he's even set foot on a racecourse, his credentials for making it as a Group horse are stronger than the vast majority of horses.

As for his debut, it was just promising, but not especially in a knock-ya-eye out kinda way, IMO. As we know, watch any big field maiden at a top track and you'll see horses finding trouble before running on, it doesn't mean they are all Group horses!

Couldn't agree more George. The Gosden horse is a ridiculous price tomorrow considering.

Who knows how much improvement there will be to come, gj, even Dubawi's best son, Postponed, got beat on debut, but I would baulk at backing him at 4-6, and I'll stand by that even if he wins by 15l!

Same here. Not my kind of bet at all. I backed Capital Flight at York last time and agree that imo they made too much use of him. Much rather be backing him Luke you at ew prices rather than something than ran encouragingly but ultimately was given a poor ride first time out....

Off the top of me head, there's only one 2YO I saw get beat in a maiden this season who I was so taken with, I thought he could be a Group horse IMO, and it's not exactly original given he's trained by Aidan O'Brien, but Amedeo Modigliani, when he made his debut at the Curragh, with the amount of ground he made up under tender handling.

He has since won easily at short odds at Galway, again travelling with exuberance before quickening smartly, and he looks to have a lethal weapon in his armoury, a devastating turn of foot, but that enthusiasm needs to be kept a lid on imo, cuz it does look like he just wants to take off as soon as the gates open.

Check out Crowley as the stalls opened last time (stall 15). The stalls open but one jockey doesn't make any move. There was a thread about it on here at the time - the commentator mentioned it, and Lydia and Mellish were all over it too. Even Timeform noticed it, which is saying something. So basically everyone saw it.

Except the stewards.

There was a very similar ride by Crowley on a debutant called Guvenor's Choice at Sandown this season.

No doubt went into plenty of trackers and was well backed on its next start at Epsom, where it ran well but was turned over at 13-8.

It's called an educational ride, the horse will have learned a lot. We'll see tomorrow.

Wasn't well backed George, it drifted from evens to 2.7 as the Johnston horse that won that day was well punted into 4/5

Patience is a virtue!

By the way, fwiw (probably fk all) Gosden's horse in the first race tomorrow at Newbury looks better value than his hotpot imo
Fennaan. It's around 12/1. Finished 3/4l behind a horse which is 3/1 co fav yet the Fennaan looked green as grass and can only
come on for the run

Funny you should mention that drift james, as I'd just been thinking that some well connected or well informed people could conceivably consider Emaraaty a great lay tomorrow given its status as an apparent 'certainty'.

Well I don't think anyone can say George wasn't right about Caravaggio all in all so I'll be interested to see what happens not only tomorrow but for the future of this horse....

Crowleys blog

1.45 – Emaraaty

He ran very well first time up. He was very green and will have learned a lot from that experience. I like this horse a lot and he has a big price tag.

On paper this doesn’t look a strong race and I’d be disappointed if he doesn’t win.

On his first start he was drawn very badly at Sandown, on the outside of all the runners, and he was slowly away. The most important thing for a horse on his first start is, like a child on his first day at school, they must have a good experience. So whilst Joe Bloggs in the betting shop might be asking “why didn’t the jockey use his whip more?” it really doesn’t work like that on a horse’s debut.

If a child got told off on his first day at school he won’t want to go back. It’s the same for a racehorse. You want them to enjoy their first race.

I often wouldn’t use the whip at all on their first start, or maybe once if it was to help the horse go and win a race. You want the horse to come back, eat all his dinner, have a nice experience and look forward to going racing next time.

Emaraaty got behind early and I wanted him to come through runners rather than pull him wide early, where he would have learned very little.

He was stopped in his run and then ran a really encouraging race. You see some two-year-olds go racing, have a few smacks, and then next time out they are keen or flashing their tail and they haven’t enjoyed the experience.

"Emaraaty got behind early".

Why Jim, why?

No-one's asking you to use the whip in the starting stalls - just your arms and legs. Why did all the other jockeys do that before you did?
By:

When: 22 Sep 17 21:33
Steady, gj, they may be bringing that thread back up if / when Caravaggio wins at Ascot WinkGrin

I'm not being derogatory towards Emaraaty, btw, even if I wasn't as taken as some were by his debut run. We'll find out a lot more tomorrow if / when he's put into the heat of a race.

No-one could accuse Crowley of writing cliché ridden sh*t, eh?

So Jim, if the child doesn't enjoy his second day at school (or the horse doesn't being hard ridden and whipped on his second start), will he wasn't to go back for the third day?

They won't if he runs in the Abbaye George Excited and your right as well the whole point is the fact that he might be a very good horse it's more that he's a ridiculous price tomorrow given what he has achieved on his first run. Agree with you also bettinghelp would t be getting involved at that short price anyway but with Crowley on board definitely not...

Poor Davy Russell got slaughtered for giving a horse a thump on the head and mr Jim Crowley tried to decapitate Emaraaty in its last race and no action was taken ,"oh racing is a strange game."

Crowley should have got a life ban,he pulled the head of the horse, and everyone seen it.
it destroyed people's view of  English racing for ever, how on earth did he get away with it.
And everyone is too scared to say anything  about our Jimbo,he should never be allowed near a race course again.
And that's the nicest thing I can say .

That "first day at school" notion is a load of guff imo, if only cuz there is absolutely zero evidence that using a whip on a newcomer has an adverse affect on it for futures races.

And I'm sure there will have been numerous examples down the years of newcomers being given hard rides to land punts. If the money is down, most jocks imo wouldn't think twice about getting the dust out of one in order to land the dosh.

As long as the whip is used correctly and sensibly, I don't see an issue. I'll give a fairly recent example, Herecomesthesun, this filly was given a fairly strong ride and the whip used on her in order to win at Salisbury on her debut. She responded willingly and was well on top at the finish.
Going forward, she may not win again because she steps up in class, or her mark is on the high side, or just because she was fit and ready for her debut and that was her day, but NOT imo cuz she had a few smacks with the whip.

As for so called "educational rides", what exactly does a horse learn, that it doesn't have to come out of its comfort zone and do little more than it would on the gallops at home when having a breeze?

I look forward to the next time Weaver, Crowley, or whoever, talks of 'babies' having their 'first day at school'. Erm, no, they are racehorses and the racecourse isn't a f*cking schooling ground.

yes they are but like at school you get some that mature faster than others, some just need the experience. its not just racing its the whole first race experience, getting there, the paddock, the crowds, racing with probably more horses than it has before. i doubt many have been bottomed because of a few crack of the whips first time out but i would imagine his battle was for another more important day
