All the lefties would be up in arms if we had Police walking around like that, probably upset a few so not allowed. I fear for anyone bringing up young children in this Country as it stands, as the future is bleak. Not allowed to say anything remotely controversial or get called a racist etc, and they wonder why right wing/vigilante groups are popping up. Surprised a few haven't said enough wasn't done by the services to help the terrorist yet.

The message of "we will not be divided" is some sort of joke I assume?

what is 'international terrorism'?
Not doing the harmony thing much good using words like international in place of Islamic.
They don't want to say Islamic because not all Islam follows the doctrine....but international is ok?

seriously, you think that anyone has an issue with police wearing protective vests?  Pathetic!  Anyway every policeman I see on the streets does have a vest.

The biggest irony is that it is the right wing who are easily manipulated by terrorists to do exactly what the terrorists want.

While I agree with the statements in Parliament today, I am under no doubt that terrorists have changed all of our lives, however much we try to defy them. Anyone who has boarded a flight since 9/11/2001 knows what a profound change has occurred and only this week, a new ban on using computers etc. on planes from certain countries. I have little doubt that the ban will spread as every country will wish to be seen as taking the maximum precautions. Even those going to Cheltenham, Ascot, Wimbledon or no doubt many other sporting events have to subject themselves to a search. Terrorists may be paying with their own lives but they are affecting the lives of almost every citizen of every country on the planet.

Which has been the case for many people in many countries ad infinitum - we generally live a very cosseted life in the west as we only make the weapons that get used. This incident shows just how crap these people are and how unafraid we should all be - can you imagine, 1981 snug bar of 'The Drogheda Massacre Arms' in Kilburn:

Paddy 1: What are we going to do for our next job?
Paddy 2: I know - I'll  take a couple of kitchen knives, drive a morris minor to parliament, run into it and see how far I can get and how many I can kill.
Paddy 3: Giggles.
Paddy 1: Laughs uncontrollably.
Paddies 3,4&5: Also laugh uncontrollably and 5 shoots 2 for having such a pathetic plan that will obviously achieve feck all apart from making them look stupid.

In 1981 this plan might have actually achieved something as even though bombs were going off regularly security was nothing like it is today. If this is all these terrorists have got then there really is nothing to worry about - after all we all love the Irish now don't we?

In the highly unlikely event that some terrorist cell is sitting there reading this thread they will be rubbing their hands with glee. Plan firmly on track, get the right to blame the left, ostracise sections of the community, divide and conquer. Lets be clear who is to blame for this. It's the guy who did it and his ilk. The so called left agenda is to ensure that we don't succumb to scapegoating innocent people, regardless of whether we agree with their politics or their religion, (which i personally would be happy to challenge as absurd in any civilised debate, and even support legislation that kept religion out of politics). Without wishing to trivialise - imagine a bunch of yobs on bus trip from Basildon tearing it up one Saturday afternoon at Ascot. You apply for tickets for the next meeting - you have a Basildon post code and get a less than polite reply "sorry you're not coming". This is the root of fascism - lets not fall for it.

and of course the hundreds of people killed or injured yesterday in car crashes, violent robbery, domestic disputes will get at best a one line report and after the events of yesterday will be totally ignored. If a "terrorist commits murder it is (rightly perhaps) world news for days to the exclusion of anything else. As a country dweller, I am grateful that I only need to visit a large conurbation once a year or less and then it is usually to board a plane. I haven't been to a city centre for years nor do I intend to.

British born, British bred, British citizen. As british as those on here saying 'why let them in etc'. Just glanced through this thread it reads like some kind of National Front forum at times.

Horrible what happened yesterday, probably by someone mentally ill that happens to be a muslim, if he didn't do it for this cause he would probably have found another reason. Just a shame that at times like this the right wingers decide its a good time to criticise 'lefties' and tar anyone who happens to be a different colour, religion, race or nationality to them with the same brush as a guy who probably has nothing in common with any of them. When Jo Cox was murdered I didn't see people on here saying UKIP supporters need to be thrown out of the country!

meanwhile - daily occurrence in america Crazy

Thursday 23 March 2017

A police officer and three other people were shot and killed when a domestic dispute at a bank escalated into shootings at three locations in northern Wisconsin on Wednesday, investigators said.

A suspect was taken in custody after the shootings, which happened at a bank, a law firm and an apartment complex. Officers, including a Swat team, had a standoff with the suspect for several hours at the apartment site before it ended in a volley of gunfire at about 5pm.

A British born, British citizen 1st time poster. How would you have dealt with this man before the attack? Just out of interest? There have been probably a dozen muslim people that have tried to commit this kind of thing in the UK in the last 10 years, a tiny fraction of the British Muslim population, should all other muslims suffer because they worship the same god as the tiny fraction that want to do people harm? Did you advocate throwing out all catholic people in the 80's and 90's?

Where he was born has only limited relevance to what he believed and what he wished to achieve. Of course most Moslems oppose this sort of thing as many Irish Catholics opposed the IRA but I doubt if mental illness was the factor. The message coming from ISIL and fellow travelers to anyone who finds them attractive is "kill and maim as many infidels as possible" We do have to wait for the full facts in this case but the attacks in Paris, Brussels and elsewhere were clearly organized and inspired by an ideology.

TO commit mass murder I think people must be mentally ill? Perhaps i'm wrong.

As sageform asked though, where could we possibly 'deport' a British born, British citizen to? If someone is 'known' to the security services and there is evidence that they are planning to commit a crime the person will be dealt with, if there is no evidence then as with every other citizen they are innocent until proven guilty; Unfortunately on occasions as seems to be the case here, someone has slipped through the net.

The problem is to assume these things can be stopped.
How do you stop an individual drive along a pavement?

Those in their protected lair hiding inside parliament after a lock down while 40 individuals outside layed prostrate shows you the divide.

What then occurs is the often repeated mantra of 'they wont win','thank you thank you thank you protective policeman you saved me' and 'get back to work'

Agree that this sort of crime is hard to stop but we can make it impossible to drive along pavements or pedestrian precincts by putting zig zag railings every 50 yards.

You honestly think they would do this?
If you believe that is possible and they dont do it then their non action speaks volumes....while they add another checkpoint outside parliament no doubt

Seeing as he was on the radar he must have done something previously? If ANYONE spouts the shoite that some of these extremists do (whether that be via facebook/twatter/youtube/on the street/mosque etc), then change the law and bang them up for 10 years in solitary. If they are not British born turf them out to the rock they crawled out of. Don't let them go in with the population in prison, let them rot alone and not putting their ideology onto other vulnerable people. That would be what I would be doing if I had the choice. I also don't mean to convict them on hearsay, actual evidence of anything large or small. If they don't like our society then they shouldn't be allowed to populate amongst it.

Second point - no, not all other muslims should suffer, but don't tell me that no others knew he was a loose cannon and had been brainwashed? When are their own going to actually stand up and do something about it?

Difficult to believe this is a racing forum given the level of hatred being spewed out by many of the racist limp-wristed keyboard warriors who sadly proliferate on here like bluebottles round freshly steaming excrement!
I go racing frequently and win or lose it is always an enjoyable experience  because of the wonderful warm friendly people I encounter all over the UK. This is why it's so shocking to me  that a racing forum could contain so many knuckle-dragging red-neck BNP-type  bigots, who are known to get off by abusing innocent Muslims, usually women! Fearless fellas these jingoistic scumbags!

With you Ihal - but there are some of us in the thread who have tried to counter with a measure of decency. All you can do is stand up to bigotry wherever it surfaces, but you probably know perfectly well that it will proliferate in times like this, and by definition, you won't change their minds - if you could, then it wouldn't be bigotry.

ihal essex -

With your comments - You appear to live in some kind of Rose Garden.

Many, other, people live in former decent areas of Cities and Towns that have been, or are becoming, overrun by people who display NO interest whatsoever in integrating into the culture, or community, of this country.

Worse still - Several, indeed many in some areas, have managed to wriggle their way into positions of power on the local councils (through enforced block voting by their ilk) - then changing the rules and demographic of the local council to suit ONLY THEIR needs and intentions.... For example, countless personal dwellings becoming NOT liable to  Council Tax by being deemed a place of worship, for various dubious reasons - and getting unopposed planning permission for a new mosque on practically every street corner.

How many mosques do they NEED?

- and people precisely like you, then say that the sufferers of such a one-sided scenario; alongside an almost equally enforced politically correct acceptance policy - are meant to just keep stum.

Accusing me of generalising is rich after your rant below. Do you know of one  Muslim you consider worthy of living in this sceptrediisle?
Who is most honest, Sadiq Khan or Boris Johnson?

What a waste of time all this self-serving religious waffling - currently taking place on Parliament Square, and shown on BBC and SkyNews - is.

It is precisely because of all these nonsensical, and irrational, beliefs that we have these incidents - all over the world.
